I sure hope CCP is getting major bucks from IBM for all the free advertising. I don't know about you but it's getting on my nerves a little. Next I'm expecting to see some IBM Blade Server in-game product placement too.
Heh. Might as well go all the way and fit Taco Bell in there. Concord billboards have been looking a bit sparse of late, and we all know by this time in the future Taco Bell is the only restaurant chain left.

hahahaha thats a great idea. CCP could put more billboards up around gates and stations. i mean this is the future, in caldari space and gallente space you'd expect to see a lot more of stuff like that. They could have players pay isk to put corp advertisement up on billboards instead of those annoying small cans anchored 200km from a gate.
EDIT: wow i really like that idea.

Yeah... Player Corps putting up ad's would be kicking sweet. Better then the #@$# cans floating around now.

It takes months to get an alliance pic approved, it's be the same with corp adverts :( Which is wrong.

good grief thats ashame. would think it would just take 1 gm looking it over before putting up there. but they could make the billboards interactive to. theres a bunch of corp names on the billboard and you can open a screen and click on the corp name to watch their 30 second advertisement. youd put OUT OF ORDER on the ones in Jita to prevent big pile ups. this of course will probably never happen, because of some funky lag issue. but seems like a fun idea, even if they implimented a very simple form of it. because like posted earlier. **** those ****'ing cans.

You could make them standardized like the bounty lists on the CONCORD billboards.
Corporate Logo, with corporation name and a brief message (maybe webpage?) flashing on the screen at the bottom.

I work for IBM, and I'm not tired of the references at all. In FACT, there are links for EVE on IBM's sites.

IBMs may be good for servers, but for personal computers (especially for those that want to play games like eve) they're overpriced, underpowered, and basically junk imo.

Back to the topic at hand, where exactly are you seeing all this IBM hype? There have been a few blogs about it, but it's not like we're being bombared with IBM stuff everywhere we go, either here or ingame.

There is a rather tight relationship between CCP and IBM.
Enough that you can thank IBM in part for bringins us EVE, so Its a bit rude to NOT give them credit

Going for any major computer dealer and you are essentially going to paying out the rear and getting little back. IBMs haven't been at the forefront of personal computers anyhow for YEARS. Although for servers and software they definitely are pretty high up there.
If anything IBM is mostly a business oriented company. They are geared towards supplying computers and support to businesses.
Anyhow Lenovo seems to be dealing with and making all of IBM's personal stuff these days. My guess is they are also oriented around selling what are essentially BUSINESS machines. Basically MACHINEs made to be used for business purposes. I hear IBM is also INTERNATIONAL these days. If you want a gaming machine, buy a gaming machine, and don't buy from a company that sells computers that are geared for non-gaming uses.
The same could be said of any of the major PC manufacturers for selling overpriced, underpowered, and essentially junk imo. Believe me, I own a Dell XPS. I paid 3k for it and could have built it for much less than that, but I got it for the warranty mostly. I am hell on computers usually. Likewise my vid card fan died and I got a new one shipped out to me.
But in reality there really hasn't been much IBM postings all over the place. I mean you don't see IBM ads on the right sidebar do you? Or anywhere but simple text links. And you have to admit EVE would not be possible without IBM. They do make some of the best servers on the market imho.

No. IBM does not build ANY personal computing systems. Leonovo doesn't appear to sell any desktops with anything more than integrated graphics. These things are designed for businesses to buy in bulk - not for individuals to play games with.

That's just one definition from a dictionary, but there are plenty of others are basically the same. Personal Computer = PC.
IBM DOES make personal computers. I'm typing this on one.
I also agree with Talori'i, even if he is a dirty Gallente. Big name manufacturers are basically useless for game computers. My current computer cost me ~$1000 two years ago when I built it, but to get a similar system at the time from a brand name would've cost me $2500 or more.
I know the difference between right and wrong... I just don't care. |

While I don't agree with your nerves about IBM-pushing, your idea about in-game advertising sure is something that CCP should consider (if they aren't already). EVE wouldn't be the first game to do it and it's considered one of the biggest market for the near future in the advertising industry.
One little problem though... EVE is set millenia from now, so advertising current products doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Except maybe for companies that think they'll still exist by then (Can you foresee a take-over of Quafe by The Coca Cola company, or a battleship made by Airbus?  )

IBM no longer make personal commputers. The HDD business got sold to Hitachi a couple of years ago, and the laptop business followed suit last year to Lenovo.

If you are typing on an IBM personal computer, fair enough, but it's not a *current* IBM product.
Plenty of us here watching Big Blue from the inside sell all its assets :-( Final salary pension just gone ****up.com as well
They rock for business stuff though, and kick Sun/HP etc ass when it comes to stuff that CCP are buying.

I don't care. Why not mention the equipment you use, even if it's advertising.
It's more honest, than advertising products that you don't use yourself / don't really believe in. As long as I don't see it ingame, I'm fine with it.

Because it would be giving away free advertising. However, it's good to hear Eve gets linkbacks from IBM's site, so it's all fair. Everybody wins.
I would like to see the in-game billboards expanded in some way. Would really make for more realism, a la Bladerunner.

Next time you're in business or first class on a long haul flight, take a look around at what laptops people are using. You'll notice 90% of them will be IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads, with the other 10% businesspeople casting jealous looks to the Thinkpads.
That stuff isn't overpriced, it's extremely well built, solid and just plain usable. Each time I get a new shipment of Thinkpads I need to fortify the stockroom and repel the executives with burning oil and molten lead. Toshiba's, Dells etc may look nicer at first, but after a few months of heavy on the road usage it's pretty obvious why Thinkpads are 'expensive'.

Currently using my IBM T42 Thinkpad at work, when i go home it gets used to run my second Eve account.
I couldn't be happier with IBM actually
