I don't think this can be fixed.. But this could destroy the idea of putting a bounty on someone. I've heard about these people with 10 mil bounties on their head. Wouldn't they just jump in a frigate and get a friend to kill them, then half the money?

What can be done about this?

Bountied players often want the bounty. It's a status symbol. It says "They've put 10 millino isk on my head, and I'm still alive." The cost of a clone is low enough where even if you had 15million skill points you can get them insured for pennys on the point. The only thing keeping the bounties on pirate's heads is that they want them there.

so... is that the exploit fixed?

personally i think this would b a real tuff one to combat, if not impossible. Im certainly far from intelligent, but i think it falls too close to usual game mechanics to actually b detected. Why waste a frigate? just pod out.

dont take this for gospel like i said im a bit fik.

Just don't use the bounty system if you really want someone taken out. Post a hefty bounty on the forums and wait for a response (note I said 'hefty'. Most people won't bother responding unless they know it's worth their while - meaning big money). Most times you'll find out the money you're gonna pay out will easily exceed that in-game bounty. In that case, make sure it's worth it.

This is exactly why Ultima Online got rid of bounties way back in 2001. People were having a friend kill them for the bounty, and then splitting the cash.

The only problem with bounties is that they are miserably small - due to the ease that they can be exploited. I've read on the forums that there is a review of this going on, but I've no idea what changes are intended. Myself I'd like a proportion of skill points of pirates to go into a skill point 'jail' that they can get back by paying the bounty. That way to go back to all their skills they need to match the bounty, thus very limited opportunity for exploiting.

The first serious bounty will be the one that tops 100M, anything else is a joke bounty. Until then don't expect queues forming outside Stavr0s' house :-)

Wouldn't making cost of insurance Bounty+Cost fix this exploit?

I think the highest bounty atm is 22mil. 11mil is not worth the cost at losing your lv 5 skills. plus u can say look out i am king, i caused tonnes of damage!Twisted Evil

Yeh, the more bounty someone has on their head the more their next clone should cost. Like x2 thier current bounty + clone cost.

Alot of people are missing the point of bounties by coming up with ideas that cost the pirate money or some sort of penalty by having a bounty on his head. Thats not a bounty... thats just messing around with eachother's wallets. The whole point is to reward whoever kills the pirate with the money... so at the end of the day, you pay for the pirate to DIE. Not pay to have his insurance go up or some useless penalty that doesnt even involve the pirate's death.
