Well, the subject line pretty much says it all. My corp spent 180 mil on a small and medium ship assembly array. Neither build barges, and I'd see it as a major breach in logic that the one that builds battleships and carriers would build a barge, so what gives? CCP?

I believe the Small Ship Assembly Array is capable of building barges.

Nope.
Have tried to create a manufacturing job for a covetor bpc at both small and medium ship assembly arrays. Both returned the message 'Cannot Create Job - This product cannot be manufactured at this facility'. Quite unambiguous

I'm sure this is a question that will result in much firey sarcasm, but am I the only person in Eve that cares about this?
Certainly seems so.

For those lucky enough to own a pos and have the BPCs/BPOs for this little thing i can see why its an issue.
did ya petition it? it would figure that the covetor is built in the large, (Battleship sized sposedly) Ret in the medium adn proc in the small.. meh

Good observation. Never thought of it that they may have separated the different barges' sizes out across the arrays like that. Always considered all barges to be at most, medium sized ships.
I will pick up a retriever bpc when the servers come back up and test this. Thanks for the alternate speculation.

Personally.. I think the whole logic behind the ship production arrays is stupid. (Read.. I was/am very disappointed in it)
The above post illustrates whyà but IÆll add a few other reasons..
1.We have to play the guessing game (to the tune of hundreds of millions of isk) to figure out what ships can be built with what array. The descriptions are VERY vague. If you doubt this.. take a look at all the posts asking questions just like the above.
2.Tell me any good reason why a large ship building array canÆt make ôsmall and mediumö ships too? So if I want to make a few frigs, a cruiser and a battleship or two deep in 0.0 space I have to have 3 different arrays JUST to make those ships?? ItÆs crazy that one large ship building array canÆt cover those needs. A small should cover frigate class ships. A Medium should cover everything the small array covers plus more, along the lines of the cruiser class ships and it should cost twice what the small does. The large should cover everything the medium can do and cost twice as much as well. It should be able to build everything except capitol class ships. The Capitol class array should be able to build any ship. Dang it.. if I want to build a frig with a 1 billion isk capitol ship arrayà I should be able too!
3.But it gets better.. Then I have to have a SEPRATE module making array to eqip those ships.. and then a SEPRATE Ammo making array so they can shoot something outta the launcher and then if I want drones.. a SEPRATE one for that too.. Currently my main PoS looks like a flea market in spring with all that junk around it.
4.All the above arrays also all look exactly the same in space.. I know.. a small grip but.. itÆs pretty lame.
I was very excited about all the new PoS stuff they added in RmR.. but very disappointed with the actual execution. Just like when the PoS came out last year.. so many things didnÆt work as intended.. and even a year later.. we are STILL having issues with things working correctly. (Silo bonuses, ship mantance array issues.. etc) It just seems poorly thought out.
Please consider making some logical changes to these PoS structures.
Thanks, JSquared

Okay, well I just finished experimenting with the afforementioned Retriever BPC I went into empire to get this morning. Result: NO JOY in either small or medium ship assembly arrays.
As much as I'd like someone to prove me wrong here, my testing indicates so far that MINING BARGES CANNOT BE BUILT AT A POS.
To the Eve community: Don't waste your isk testing this further.
To CCP: Please fix this, or enter a notation in the description of all mining barges that, although they are paper thin and are the only things that can keep your 0.0 investments fueled, these ships can only be replaced via using an empire factory slot.
I don't normally post things like this (please try to find much of a rant from me about anything), but honestly, this is just a little over the top for me. This testing has cost THREE TIER 1 BATTLESHIPS worth of isk and hours of my time. Why? Because somebody sitting in a desk chair in Iceland didn't bother to put another 10 seconds into an assembly array description. Thanks.

Amen, POS's appear to be very poorly executed. We are planing on a pos with manufacturing abilitys but if we cant build the ships that fuel its whats the ****ing point?

Maybe we should make a thread, in it, list all the ship classes, followed by a confirmed ship assembly thingie behind it? It might be of help for other people in the future.

It might be helpful for CCP developers too... so even they know what their ship assembly arrays can actualy build.

I know I said above not to waste isk testing this further, but is there anyone out there that owns a large ship assembly array who has tried building a mining barge with it? If so, what were your results? The large ship array is the only one that I haven't tested, and I'd like to see this test totally complete.
Thanks, Ray

I Have tried to build a covetor in all three size building arrays, to no avail. A corpmate attempted to build shuttles at the all three sizes, also to no avail.
Odd that the small wouldn't build shuttles, but its a little thing.

Thank you Malik for the update ...
CCP, now that it's confirmed, could we get a response on if and/or when this issue will be addressed? Even a flat out 'No this won't ever happen' would be something at this point.
Thanks, Ray

On a sidenote:
Did you guys notice that there are conquerable stations in certain 0.0 systems? These station are either a factory or a refinery and operate just like NPC stations, except that they are under the souvereignity of the alliance that claimed the system they are in.
So, if you are not able to manufacture a certain ship at a POS, it is probably intended that you have to capture a system with a factory station in it, or join an alliance that has such a station. Ccapturing is done by deploying POSes in that system.

Andreask14,
Thank you for posting your reply, however this is not a thread about how you think all of EVE should be joining alliances. Some people don't want the politics or constant empire wars. Either way, I highlighted that particular part of your post because the closest conquerable station to where our pos's are is at least 20 jumps. Honestly, I don't see how any aspect of this thread has anything to do with alliance existence or membership.
This thread does, however, ask the question why every ship in EVE, including Titans, can be built at a player owned station with the exception of mining barges and shuttles.
Please read that last sentence again everyone.
EVERY ship in EVE, except shuttles and mining barges.
I'm sorry, but to me, that sounds like an oversight and a bug.
What would you alliance guys rather everyone be able to build at their POS? Do you feel more threatened by carriers and titans, or by covetors? I'm actually suprised that I haven't seen a thread posted by an alliance member saying that carriers, dreads, and titans should only be able to be built at outposts.

Actualy it has everything to do with soverignty, you cant target PCS's without it.

Thank you for pointing out that only these two ships cant be manufactured at POSes. Now i too think that this is probably an oversight. Did you petition it ?

One would imagine it has been petitioned multiple times, but it would probably be a good idea if someone with personal experience with it could link one to this thread.

I stand corrected My apologies. I guess things have changed quite a bit since the last time I had access to any PCS's. Used to be you just had to have a fleet that was large enough to bring their shields down without getting spanked by an opposing large fleet.

I am curious,
Are there any beenfits to having an assembly array at your POS process wise? What i mean is do you recieve a bonus to mineral efficeincy or manufacturing time that you would not normally recieve at a NPC station. For example a mobile lab attached to a POS recieves a 25% reduction in ME research, PE research, and copying times. I am just wondering if assembly arrays have somthing similar.
Thanks in advance :)

Unfortunately, the test server is down at the moment, so that is not an option at this time.

The arrays ARE huge weighing in at a whopping 25000 m¦, which is half the aggrevation. There are only a couple of reasonably priced ships that can haul that much, and even then it's gonna take a sizable investment in named xpanders. Personally, I risked my Impel to move the arrays, and had to fit it w/ (I think) 5 local hulls, a partial, and an alpha to be able to fit them. I think an itty5 can haul 25k w/ all locals as well. Other than these 2 ships, I don't know that anything shy of a freighter can do it.
Either way, you're obviously gonna be taking a substantial risk delivering these modules to your pos. Too much risk imo for them not to behave as expected once deployed.
