Hi everyone, i'm gonna try to make this very simple and quick, but I know how I am, and this is gonna get long. But don't worry, it's also gonna be pretty organized, so skip to the part you're interested in if you need help ;)
Before reading this, know the following :
I'm about to record a video tutorial for all this, as it would be WAY WAY WAY faster and easier to explain everything with actual footage instead of explaining everything, but it would also be WAY WAY WAY shorter to explain than to type, because I tend to over explain. So yeah, links incoming in a future edit !
Intro
Okay so the reason i'm doing this is because i've spent a lot of time browsing the forums & the internet for my very " specific " needs. Maybe if I explain everything i've learned here and there, plus everyone's basic common sense, maybe this can end up being helpful to some people. My situation evolved with time (new monitor, new account, new monitor, new needs, bla bla bla), but this is basically what i've needed (at different times for different reasons that don't really matter here) :
- Larger in-game screen area so i can still see my ship and different windows. Like the cargo, the market, and just stop random stuff that one can find useful. I personally believe that Eve Online is not a game you can play comfortably on only one monitor. There is just too much information that you either need or want.
- Desktop space so i can have a brower open with different guides/info about whatever I am doing in a quest. This could include eve survival, clinic, or simply a movie, or just some music, a stream, the teamspeak channels and whatnot. Now you can always alt tab but i'm telling you this,i've been using 2 and 3 monitors for a while, and every time i had to go to work where i only have one, you can clearly tell how useful the second monitor actually is. It's more than a luxury, it's actually something worth paying for.
- Using multiple accounts at the same time (and obviously being able to look at both screens at the same time, because you don't want to alt tab and you really need to see what's happening with your alt).
That being said, it's pretty obvious what i'm gonna show here :
- Set up one extra monitor - Set up two extra monitors - Use one account on each monitor and keep the third one for something else - Using one account on two monitors and the alt on just one monitor
With that, you'll be able to do things as you like.
Here we go.
Setting up one extra monitor for dual screen in game
So here you wanna have a wide view in eve, but not specifically use the second screen for other windows.
This is the " hardest " (and trust me this is ridiculously easy) part, so if you understand that, you're golden.
Start Eve, log in, go in the menu, and in the Display & Graphic settings.
Now you'll always wanna alt tab, so i suggest you don't use fullscreen unless you don't really care :
- Select Fixed Window - Use the widest resolution So if your monitors are 1920*1200, you'll need the one that is 3840*1200, because your monitors are the same height, but you want your game to go across two monitors. Pretty straightforward right?
Now you might encounter a problem : the game isn't on the right monitor. Save your prayers for another thay, here I am.
Just chose which monitor you want the game on with the " Display Adapter " setting. This represents every monitor plugged in, and for some reason, it's just named after your graphic card with the monitor number at the end.
Now you'll definitely notice another problem, everything is still centered, and therefore, right in the separation of your two monitors ( which i suggest should be really close to each other ). Well, thanks to CPP, there is a checkbox and a slider that you need to set up to fix that.
Still in the Display & Graphics, the second section, Ship View Camera Settings, you'll wanna check the box named "Offset Interface With Camera " and move the slider to the direction you want evertying to be moved to. For example, I want everything on the right side screen, so i'll move the slider to the right. What does that do? I moves the menu, the pop-up messages, and all the information on the bottom, like " Warp Drive Active " or " Keep at range : blablabla ". You'll have to find your exact number, mine was set a 70 on the right side.
I didn't move the Captain's Quarters Camera Settings because i never go there, but they work the exact same way.
That's it, you're set ! Everything should be working just fine.
If you need to alt tab, the "Fixed Window" setting puts your game in fullscreen mode, but also has the desktop loaded at all times, so it DOES require more resources from your computer but allows you to switch between windows really smoothly.
Now, let's get to the next bit.
Setting up the game on 3 monitors :
Now here it depends how you wanna do it, let's deal with the easy one first.
I want to have my game on the 3 monitors, fullscreen.
Fairly easy, just go in the options, select Fixed Window or Fullscreen according to your needs ( again, i suggest Fixed Window, and if you got 3 monitors you probably have a decent computer so it'll run smoothly anyway ), select the widest resolution. It would definitly be the very last one on the list (above 5K pixels wide). And here you don't even have to change settings because the game will be centered in your middle screen ! You might just have to select the right main monitor, on the " Display Adapter " option. If you don't know which monitor is which, just try them all, it's fairly straight forward.
