I'm glad all of you liked it. I was at work doing this and stiffling my laugh so hard, I cut a bolt of lightning instead (if you take my meaning). If you liked that one, check this out. I was the writer for that one too.
On a more serious note (yeah, right.) I really would like this to happen. I use a pocket pc cell phone. I just can't wait to tell my mom, "Hey Ma, hold the line, I gotta sell some Zyd."

These two devices are our current reference models: http://www.hataekni.is/vorur/Lofatolvur/pnr/293 and http://extranet.ejs.is/extranet/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=HC906
...Yada yada... subject to change ...yada yada... don't blame me if you buy one of these and EVE Mobile doesn't ship or doesn't support it ...yada yada...
Smartphones and Symbian are not currently slated.
EVE Mobile is a research project at this point, so I'm not going to give you guys anything juicy to hold me to. It could all change by tomorrow. I will however say that space flight is not included. Think in-station. Pretty much anything you can find in the station services or neocom bar that makes sense. We're also planning some pretty ebil phone integration features, mostly targeting corp and alliance needs.
Hope that was vague enough, but I'll probably regret this posting one way or the other .
You do realise that all this already exists right? And with multi platform support even ....
http://www.desktopmobiles.com/
Works on any phone which supports java. And it gives way more then just a skillchange ... if your screen is big enough or you can hook it up to a projector you can even pvp using your cellphone :P

Thanks for the time.
Alas, Windows CE upgrades will not happen. The new versions of the OS are tied into the devices so much that the OEMs will just not bother with the resources for upgrading an older device. It's pretty much along the lines of "if you want Windows Mobile 5, buy a device that supports it".
If I remember correctly, HP/Compaq messed around with upgrading some of the Compaq Aeros from CE 2.11 to 3.x, but the results convinced them not try and do to that again.
Well check out www.ipaqchoice.com , upgrades for the hx2000 series and the hx4700 from PPC2003SE to WM 5.0. So it can be done, the devices just need to be compatible from when they were made.
Sorry to but in again ... I have a HP iPAQ h5450 ... apart from not understanding a word of French I couldn't find anything related to upgrading the windows. Any guru's out there wish to help? Or at least point me in the right direction?

Hm. Touchy. Apologies if I stepped on a toe here. That app I listed the url to does exactly what EVE does, just over any java enabled phone, or even pc. Screen size obviously can be an issue but that is to be expected. But it does give within screen dimensions what eve gives, I can't help being curious to what more then the standard eve features you guys will be working on ...

One of those for the Nintendo DS would be pretty damn cool. The touch screen could abviously be used as a mouse, letting you play pretty much the whole game on it.
Obviously making a client for the DS with the whole game on it would be unfeaseable but it still seems like it would be very useful.

Mitchello, do you actually use Remote Desktop for Mobiles to play EVE wirelessly? Would you go 0.0 ratting, or join a POS attack while playing on your mobile phone? If not, then it obviously does not "give within screen dimensions what eve gives."

well ... one of my other mains was locking your peers down yesterday in ec- during the engagement where the freighter died ... At the time I was in the kitchen :-)

Ah, OK, so you do use it.
I'll assume you've changed skills with it. And now you've gone further and participated in the slaying of a freighter with 25 of your friends. That still doesn't answer whether you'd seriously use that method to play when there is risk involved.

To be perfectly honest, yes. The performance beats VNC based connections by far. Granted obviously it is less fluid then sitting directly at a PC but it isn't too bad.
The only drawback to it is that it depends directly on the capabilities of your main workstation, as that is where eve runs. It does not run on the actual phone (eve that is). It consists of a server and a client, server runs on workstation - comparable to vnc and as transparent to firewalls as can be.
Since Chribba first pointed it out to us, I have become a bit dependant on it :) For the skillchanges obviously, but also for pvp at lunch :-)

Hate to say it mate, but VNC and that remote desktop client are one and the same thing.
If your playing it via VNC using bluetooth networking then the performance will be extremely similar. If your playing VNC using GPRS and then this via bluetooth... then of course there will be a fast difference.
I'd prefer a native or emulated eve client not a remote desktop method of playing eve on my phone, that way it only has to send simple info over the limited bandwidth connection. Not entire screenshots + commands your sending. ----- If you kill all the wolves, your gonna end up with a crapload of bunnies, and by bunnies I mean stupid people |
