Hey, new player here! I think I like Amarr best, and want to be an explorer and maybe small battles and stuff. I know there is a tutorial for exploring, but are there any other tips you can give me? Also, how long does it take to get a million SP? A friend has a character that has about 2.5mil SP and just trying to see how long until I catch up haha. Thanks! |

If you are in your first week and month there are some special boosters you can buy to double your training. I'm way past those days so I don't know where to point you for them. If you know what you will be training for the next year, you can remap to speed up your training. Personally, I just max Perception and Intelligence and let it go at that.
The exploring channel is relatively active, and worth joining, and everything in the channel MOTD is worth reading. As a new pilot you will want to train the magnate for exploring because of the bonuses. Do all the data sites and relic sites you can find, you should be able to do 2/10 ded sites in a frigate, but you'll want a second combat frigate for that.
SP is something around 20mil/year maybe with the most common average about 15mil/year. But you get an automatic speed doubling for the first 1mil sp.
Do all the tutorials, not just the exploring ones. You get free ships modules, and other stuff.

You will never "catch up", at least if your friend keeps playing and training his character, but the raw number of SP means little, it all depends on what you have trained, and how you use the skills you have.
Say that.. your friend has 10 million SP in pure industry skills, while you have 2 mill in support and gunnery skills, you would have the upper hand even if he has more SP then you.

I aim for a minimum of 2000 skill points (SP) per hour. I try to avoid training below that rate.
2000 SP/hour * 24 hours/day * 365.2425 day/year = 17,531,640 SP/year
Maximum possible is 2700 SP/hour:
2700 SP/hour * 24 hours/day * 365.2425 day/year = 23,667,714 SP/year
A ballpark average figure that is easier to deal with is 20m SP/year.
Skill Points Per Hour = Primary_Attribute * 60 + Secondary_Attribute * 30 |

To be honest, catching up is mostly a hallow target anyhow. My main has over 90 mil skillpoints, but my friend who I have played Eve with for over 5 years now has well over 100 mil sp (due to various reasons). I won't ever catch up to him, but I don't care that I wouldn't. I instead look to what I want to train, and what I want to get done. I once podded myself by blowing a huge fart. |

Catching up only counts if you learn the exactly same skills as the other player. If you training something else, the question is irrelevant. |

Skills are not linear. 20M SP is not 2x better than 10M SP.
For example training to level 5 can take a very long time and represents a lot of SP, yet is only a 2-5% increase in whatever thing it helps. When you are flying cheaper ships this is less critical and a flatter training plan that is optimized to get you better PvP stats faster will tend to leave a lot of skills at lvl4 and only train to lvl5 for unlocking things.
Sure later on when most of the relevant skills are at lvl 4 then going for the long training times for lvl 5 become worth it. But the benefit per SP is much less.
These examples are clearly a simplification of a real training plan. |

Nice choice, Amarr are amazing. You'll get used to flying unstable fits and learn lots about range control / tracking during fights.
Get 2 frigates, one to scan and one to fight. Run complexes in hisec til u get the balls for lowsec (don't wait too long).
