Well... I get the consequences and reputation thingy I really do. Wouldn't really change my characters name however I got this alt... which has a really dumb one (I was young, stupid and needed the money)...
Not saying it has to be implemented but having say a once in a life time name change and the character sheet showing to your previous name somewhere would be a nice addition. |

Well, I'm not that opposed to name changes really, it's just if someone comes along and says "my past self was unable to spell correctly / had **** taste in names" my natural reaction is "lol" not "let's call the CSM hotline and get name changes pushed through".
The only real objection I'd have is that it would cheapen the characters somewhat, in that they might lose a sense of identity and become little more than floating pots of SP with labels. Name changes seem 'gamey'. But, not everyone is going to care about that sort of thing. just because something is acceptable in one culture does not mean it is accepted in all cultures, chinese/korean MMOs have a long history of MT for the stupidest of little things, and people pay shittons for it, over there its become not common but EXPECTED business practice.
now you have the "western" EVE playerbase (sorry russians and japanese, possibly australians), who have for 10 eyars been absolutely apppaled at the idea of MT in EVE, and how MT-based games rarely do well voer long periods of time in western markets.
its just how it is, cultural differences lead to differences in business, thank god CCP is a western company. |

James Amril-Kesh wrote:Consequence for the sake of consequence is pointless. Having a public name change history is enough of a consequence. There's really no reason to oppose this except for people's stubbornness. except when everyone has 80 billion names over the years of their career, also, what happens when oen personw ants a anme someone else USED to have?
we either have single chaarcters taking up large amounts fo anmes, or we allow those names back into circulation adn we get presented with the issue of "okay, when did this event, perpetrated by character X, happen? because depending on that, it could have possibly been player W, Y, or Z."
so character identification would start to resemble old world lineage "I am X, previously Y, also known as Z, who was occasionally known as W, but only after playing as V"
so yes, there is a LOGICAL reason to NEVER allow name changes. |

and yet you can change corps, change clothes, faces, ships, ship fittings... everything but the name you thought up at the character selection screen. I know violence isn't the answer. I got it wrong on purpose. |

What I would like, in addition to paid name changes, is to have any character that is sold to have its name reset. Cannibal Kane is selling his char. No one should be able to buy his reputation. If reputation and consequences matter, then when you buy a char you should get the skillpoints, not the reputation. I know violence isn't the answer. I got it wrong on purpose. |

Dude you're digging too deep. It's just an account service, nothing else. No need to involve "cultural differences" because you can find character name change in any western MMO released in last decade (WoW, Rift, GW2, UO, Daoc, AoC, you name it). With the change log implemented, there is no other strong arguments against this feature (excluding your personal bitterness of course). -¥ |

Your character ID wouldn't change.
The real downside is all the names you've had and all the names you choose get taken from the pool in perpetuity. If House played Eve: http://i.imgur.com/y7ShT.jpg |

It would be nice to be able to change your character name, as long as it takes all your history into consideration, so if it changes for you, it should update your new name in people's character contact list and maybe add a name change history, so people can still see it's you with a new name. |

I like this idea
For me i returned to eve after a break and had to buy myself back into the game with regards to buying a new "toon".
Skills were what i was after but the name wasnt the best but skills had to come first ofcourse.
Had a few problems with its past over joinining new corps but people cannot look behind the corp history
For me common sense should have prevailed as i could post the forum where i bought it etc so if some one bought a toon they should be able to wipe its history or name /both.
Ofcourse that means people who are the scum bags of our world will use it to keep trying to do what they do best by being scum to other corps but again, common sense ... be tight on secruity and learn if you can trust said person or not, nothing is new, no one really knows if the person is scum or not just because the corp history is a mile long to someone only been in two corps..it could happen anytime to any one..its EVE Online afterall...
But its now nearly 2014 and the game has been going on since 2003. For people to look back on a person, ofcourse there bound to have some history as so much has changed over the years. corps come and go, alliances try and die..
I would happily pay to have my name changed |

The chinese server, serenity, is subject to a number of legal requirements that tranquility is not subject to, there are reasons products or serives will exist there but will not exist anywhere else, as CCP have mentioned numerous times when it comes to TQ the name you pick is final unless offensive, in which case it will get changed but not to something you will enjoy :P |

There are no laws or obligations that can stop CCP from adding Character rename to their own game in Europe. -¥ |
