How do you feel about Dust players having the luxury of injecting all ranks of gear (except for officer stuff) into the economy directly for RL cash?
Should EVE have a similiar feature: AURUM ships and modules?

Dust needs micro-transactions to really survive, Of course Eve is subscription based.
After only playing Eve side for a very short time, I suppose I might be interested in using some AUR to basically buy T2 items that I'm only skilled to T1 for, but much like in Dust, I personally would be more interested in being able to spend AUR on skill "boosters" (i.e. like implants which allow me to train faster but would not have the danger of being podded).

I'm myself very opposed to the Dust injection economy, as it makes it impossible for the Dust side to ever be a pure supply-demand economy with industry. Economic wars can be won by purchasing gear for your alliance, lots of impurities abound. The worst part is even the good stuff is purchaseable for cash.
I kind of like the idea of skill boosters in EVE as the gap between new and old players grows bigger and bigger. EVE has to pull in fresh players to live; converging into fewer and fewer multiboxers is not a sustainable scenario. Dust skill boosters are a really functional mechanic IMHO, they provide a big advantage in skillpoints over time but after a while it's only horizontal progression. |

I can only hope that the ability to get high end gear for cash is only a temporary part of Dust, since everything is still provided by npc sources and there isn't any resource gathering or player crafting yet... I think that what they may do is change it to Aurum bought limited run BPCs once market and crafting arrive in the game. |

it looks like they're changing that, and making all those modules and gear available for lp from the militia as well. |

I think you're probably right.
I also think they're on their way to making only specialty gear and skill-boosters aur items. |

Because the isk or items are not injected for cash but made by players. |

Aurum gear still has skill requirements. You unlock proto level aurum gear once you unlock the standard level gear normally. You can burn some aurum and get access to gear slightly sooner is all. Or just save up the SP and not spend any aurum at all. |

I believe eventually the current setup that Dust has will change to be as close to Eve Online's current setup as possible. Since I have prior experience in industry and market trading I can see various problems that AUR for items can bring especially if those items are high-tier. For one, this will mess with the careful balance of supply and demand as AUR for weapons will allow buyers to bypass the players who produce the items. This will also create a secondary problem in which an artificial price cap will kick in which can cause major problems for margin traders like me.
As of right now, Dust 514 has only NPC source for all items.
Since we are now seeing AUR items such as the "early-access" consumable items now added into factional warfare 2.0 that now only requires Loyalty Points and ISK (no AUR) this means that AUR for similar consumable items are practically pointless or close to becoming pointless. They are now comparable to your typical faction items you see in the Eve Online market.
CCP also did state that one day Eve Online players will be handling the production side of current NPC items in Dust while Dust players handle the material extraction in some form.
Of course, this means less money for CCP via micro-transactions since now those AUR consumables are available via the new LP store in Dust for ISK and LP. CCP has practically undercut themselves with this change and now only boosters are their primary source of income.
If making money via Dust is the point, then there are already talks within the Dust community about some players wanting CCP to implement a NeX Store system similar to Eve Online where vanity items can be purchased for AUR. There are a plenty of players out there who are willing to spend more money on vanity items than on boosters. As an alternative, CCP could also expand on the Event Horizon lounge within PSHome and allow PSHome users to purchase similar NeX items and other things for cash. This will help supplement the income for Dust development. |
