I was going to make some whiny comment about how it's all stand-up, then I remembered how ******* boring UFC is when you have 2 guys attempt to out-cuddle each other on the floor.
Please do not discuss actions taken by forum moderators, even in your sig. *snip*red snip brought to you by Kaemonn. PS, you're hot.--Jorauk |

sorry for taking a while to respond to this, I've been "otherwise engaged" *cough*banned*cough*. Anyway

I am fully aware of what is happening on the floor - I have been watching MMA for years and know what the BJJ guy is trying to achieve by making the stand-up guy fight on the mat. What I take objection to are the "hold and wait" (grab hold of the guy trying to mount you, keep him still for 60 seconds and then get stood back up. wash, rinse and repeat) tactics employed by certain fighters. It is often used as a defensive measure by stand-up fighters to stop people like Tito Ortiz pounding the **** out of you - this I can accept as it's not their natural fighting style. However, seeing 2 experienced ground fighters basically cuddle each other for 15 minutes as neither one is either capable or willing to attempt to pass guard, go for a submission or begin punding from half or even full guard is what annoys me. If I'm paying to see action, I want to see action. You'll notice that the most memorable fights in MMA are usually the pure stand-up slug-fests or ground-fights where both guys are going from submission to counter to submission to counter to full mount to back to stand up to take down, etc.
Quote: then try see that ufc is just as much about getting as near as one can to that test without comitting acts of dishonour, as it is about your/outsider entertainment.
UFC is 2 guys trying to win a fight within the confins of a 30ft wide steel cage while adhering to strict rules. It is about as far from real life as you can get. Much like boxing isn't a true test of how someone would hold-up in a real fight, or how the 100 metre sprint isn't a true indication of how quick an athlete will make it up 2 flights of stairs and across the platform to catch his train before he leaves. They are all sports. Sport does not equal real life circumstances.
And finally like I said, I am paying to be entertained. Stand-up is far more entertaining than ground fights, so that's what I want to see. Knock outs 4tw __________________________________________________

I do :). tbh I only really watch UFC if it's a) a novelty fight (e.g. tank abbot losing his 100th comeback fight) or b) involves 2 guys who stand up.
edit: I never realised the UFC fighters got paid so little. I would be surprised if it covered some of the lower-tier fighter's medical bills!

because america is the world. all other contries are just small islands off the mainland
