Hi all
I'm concidering buying a 4k Ultra HD Tv / Monitor for my Eve addiction, but have read that the current HDMI 1.4 can only handle 30 FPS at Ultra HD Resolution.
Anyone here with experience on what GFX cards and Connection methods would be required? How well does Eve work at that resolution? is 30 FPS playable?
Any info you guys and girls can offer greatly appreciated.
Thanks |

I remember reading somewhere that to run above 30FPS on a 4K res tv/monitor that it'd require two DVI-D cords to run through or something along those lines. |

It is still too early for 4k and gaming.
Displayport is faster. HDMI 2.0 was only released Sep 2013.
My GTX 690 has this disclaimer: "3840x2160 at 30Hz or 4096x2160 at 24Hz supported over HDMI. 4096x2160 (including 3840x2160) at 60Hz supported over Displayport. Support for 4k tiled MST displays requires 326.19 driver or later." |

Personally, I'd hold off for a while until the other technologies catch up with 4k. By then, there will be more choices, and stuff won't be as expensive as it is now. |

Wouldn't you be better off with multiple monitors? I'm not sure what you really gain with ultra high res in eve, to be honest.
For example, two small border monitors work well - given most action is on a horizontal plane a very widescreen setup like that gives you a nice perspective. |

Don't waste them money on a 4K display please...Don't get me wrong 4K resolutions are awesome, for gaming as well as for watching movies however it only really makes sense with really big displays. We're talking 50-60 inch plus. IMHO everybody who buys a 60+ inch screen instead of a projector at that point should be shot anyway. |

I recently bought one. This is perfect if you can't have a 3 monitors setup. The height is equal to a 21'' 16:9 and the width is something like two 15'' 4:3. A really good choice in my opinion. The game supports this resolution perfectly well. |

Retina displays, for instance, have a minimum resolution of at least 3000 pixels/rad at their intended viewing distance (in practice, they all sit at 3500GÇô4000 px/rad at 30cm) GÇö any closer, and the pixels start showing up. So without knowing the size of the display and the viewing distance, we have no way of telling whether that 4k display will look any better than a standard 1080p one. 4k is for a really big desktop with no borders.
Example: I am currently using two 24 in. 16:10 displays (each 20.35 in. x 12.72 in.). and I'd replace them in a heartbeat with a single 39 in. 4k 16:9 display (33.99 in. x 19.12 in.), if that were affordable and practical. |

Another new piece of technology everyone wants to talk about but no one has a clue what they are talking about. A lot of bad info in this thread, just stop... Height = (Diagonal^2 / ((h / v)^2 + 1))^0.5 Width = Height * (h / v)
h / v = aspect ratio, typically 16 / 9 for 1080p, 16 / 10 for widescreen, 4 / 3 for 720p

There are 60hz 4k tv's. They usually have either 2 HDMI inputs or a displayport input, and are significanty more expensive than their 30hz single hdmi counterparts. If you go for one of these, I would highly recommend using displayport over the double hdmi option. While I have heard that the process that the 2 HDMI tv's use to combine inputs is very good, I wouldn't trust it to not have minor tearing when gaming (they aren't supposed to, but its theoretically a problem depending on the tv). Also, I should mention that eve plays extremely well on multi monitor setups, and that should be a consideration if cost is at all an issue. I hate to disagree with you,-ábut there is nothing subjective about "boring" in connection to "mining". -á-á-á-á -- Solstice Project's Alt |

Actually, 4k resolution in mobile displays may prove to be invaluable for VR applications. Maybe not so much just using your phone like normal, but the display themselves in HMD headsets should make a world of difference. |

BRING THEM TO US CCP!!! I'm thinking more of running multiple clients without having to stack windows as much (no, I won't use isboxer).
Currently I run 3 clients per display, with two displays, and only one client per display fully visible. |

Unfortunately it does not come with a Displayport input
The plan is to have 4 to 5 clients on screen simultaneously in windowed mode at nearly full HD res on each.
My desk space is not big enough for a multi monitor setup.
I currently have a 22" Asus ws monitor. |

Go rather for 3 pc monitors instead of nowadays 4k displays. The cheap ones sucks and are small, the good big ones ones costs as brand new car. I brought 3x MVA-panel 24" LED monitors with pivot, and displayport. I removed plastic cover from them so bezels are narrow (only 9mm). It will costs you less than 500-600 eur and you will achieve resolution 3240x1920 at 42"..... "Almost" 4K resolution for a fraction of money. And its perfect for EVE. Few bits of info in the limited research I did.
You want a 60hz monitor (most 4k's are at 30 hz).
2, you'll most likely need one with a display port connection, as the alternative requires two hdmi connections (dvi? whatever they are called).
I would wait till the new sub $1000 dell ones come out. Right now the proper 4k monitors are running around 3 grand, with the lesser 30hz ones running much less.
There are maybe 2 or 3 monitors out that are gaming quality, all WAAAAY overpriced.
You really gotta read the fineprint. Its says 120.. but look in the spec's.
4k2k 30Hz (only HDMI)
This is not the monitor you want to buy. If you can hang a month or two there should be some better options. Stabbers are totally broken

That display is way too slow. It has 30 Hz refresh, and huge amount of latency.
It also has a couple of firmware bugs at lower resolutions (the 50 in. doesn't). |

I often play Eve at 4K resolution (3840x2160).
If you're curious about how Eve looks at those resolutions, you can have a look at my 4K Wallpapers and Raw 4K screenshot collection. The latter, in particular, includes shots taken from battles with several thousand ships in Local in some of Eve's biggest battles.
Remember of course to mouse-over the image and choose 'View Full Resolution'.
Sadly, as pointed out on Reddit, even with the Pro account that I bought specifically for this purpose, Imgur does in fact compress screenshots in the 5mb - 10mb range and so there are some artifacts as a result of that.
There are presently very few options for streaming 4K content, as the bandwidth requirements are obviously very high and the target audience is still small. However, I do have a very nice RnK battle recorded at 4K resolution that I may upload sometime as a massive MKV on Eve-Files.

Anyway, that makes for a minimum viewing distance of about half a meter, which is pretty good.

This shot has the UI elements, for example (also all brackets on, etc.). If you click on the Imgur username there should be other galleries, too, including some more 4K stuff.
