This is off the top of my head, but here's my Osprey setup (I think):
Highs: 3x Miner II 1x SV-2000 Assault Missile Bay, loaded with whatever damage type missiles hurt the rats in your area most
Meds: 1x Small Converse I Deflection Catalyzer 1x Viscoelastic EM Ward Salubrity I 1x Medium Shield Extender I 1x Small Shield Extender I
Lows: 1x Mark I Modified SS Expanded Cargo Hold 1x Nanoelectrical Co-Processor 1x Co-Processor I
As many scout drones as you can fit. I prefer half and half hobgoblins and warriors, but its mostly personal preference.
Also, this could probably be improved upon, since I'm a new player with under 2M SP.

Anyone else have a setup for an Osprey they'd like to share? I'm always interested in seeing how other people put together their ships...

low sec solo mining ospray I use is:
3x Miner II 1x Assault missile Launcher
1x Med Shield Booster II 2x Best Named Racial Jammers (I mine in gall space so magnetometric jammers) 1x Cap Recharger
2x Co-processor II 1x Expanded cargo hold
As many hobgoblins as I can fit
Works a treat, if you meet any cruiser rats you just jam them and let your missile launcher and drones take there time, Biggest spawn I killed was 2x 75K cruisers and a frig, didn't even need to turn the mining lasers off while i was shooting them

What kind of skill requirements do u reccomend for such setup? And what kind of Missile launcher ammo do I need? What about drone levels? How do u haul back all your stuff? Do I also need barge skills? Do I need instajumps or instadocks (which incidentally i just read about but haven't done yet)?

Edited by: Donna Darko on 10/04/2006 01:49:33 Here's a nice Osprey setup:
3 x Miner II 1 'Malkuth' Standard Missile Launcher I
2 x Large Azeotropic Ward Salubrity I Civilian Shield Booster I Residual Survey Scanner I
Expanded Cargohold I Co-Processor II Mining Laser Upgrade I
With level 4 Shield Management, level 4 Shield Operation and that Civilian Shield Booster running, I think you can even sit in low sec and passive tank some of the rats there. Only problem is you really have to use all the modules specified, so this comes up to a pretty expensive Osprey. Also, I'd recommend using a better expander, especially if you have good mining skills, with my pretty limited skills I fill the cargo every minute.

a fast mining setup, for use when your the miner, you have another person hauling
3x Miner II's 1x arby rocket launcher 1x Civi Shield Booster 2x Mining Upgrades 1x quantum co-processor
drones - 4 light scouts (i use warriors they are quick and nimbly.)
with this setup you need to offset the lasers so you have time to drop the ore in the can for your hauler to grab. otherwise youll fill your cargo with 2 lasers, and the third will be partial (gang skills make it more entertaining) with the proper shiled skills you can run the civi shield booster forever. its a very tight fit with weapons upgrades 4, shield op 4, mining upgrades 4, but it is doable.

Why is it that no one ever mentions the modulated deep core miner II's when fitting an ospray? It can fit 3 just like tech 2 miners but the yield draw is so much better as you can fit mineral specific crystals. Also if you don't have cruisers level 4 the ferox is a better miner with its 5 miner II's vs. the ospray with its 3*1.6 Miner II's. Basically get mining 4 and slap tech 2 miners on what ever you fly, get sci 4 and astrogeology 4 to improve your mining skill. Then level your refining skill, mining skill and astrogeology skills all to level 5, with that and deep core mining 2 you'll be able to use modulated deep core miner II's. Then get your refining eff to level 3, metallurgy to level 3 and ore processing skills to 3 so you can use the tech 1 crystals. After that your target is cruisers level 5. Have a ball.

High: x3 Miner IIs Low: x2 Mining Upgrades and one co-processor.
You'll need to train Engineering up a little bit got this to work, but its worth it. It's great for high sec mining because mine pulls in almost 150 m3 per laser per cycle.

What I use for 0.0 ninja mining also, you can easily train hull upgrades to 1 I believe for hull expanders, and caldari industrial up to 3 for the badger 2 quite easily. get science 4 for a tractor beam ( needed for astrogeology anyway) and you have a nice, CHEAP setup for mining.

This is what I use in 0.5 and higher mining. High slots 3 x Miner II's 1 x Arbalst Missle launcher with whatever dmg type you need
Mid slots 1 x named medium shield extender 1 x named shield hardner -the rest are empty in order to fit the mining upgrade-
Low slots 2 x co-processor units 1 x mining upgrade
Drone bay 4 x mining drones
with my current skills each laser takes in 145 ore units per cycle and I can defend myself against the local belt rats in 0.5 systems without much trouble.

Hm, me also wanna (solo) mine in low sec - not really 0.0 but 0.4 and 0.3 for the better yield
Yes, I know about the risk - therefore I tried to setup my Osprey for low(est possible)-risk mining. Even wanna be able to jump out if sh*t happens... (being not yet effectively skilled for PvP)
So I had mainly defensive fittings in mind for my setup:
Hi-Slots: - 2x Xecl Drilling Beams - 1x Medium Noferatu I - 1x Standard Missile Launcher I (using Defender Missiles)
Med-Slots: - 2x Large Shield Extender I - 1x Small Shield Booster I - 1x 10MN Afterburner I
Low-Slots: - Basic Co-Processor - Warp Stabilizer I - Basic Extended Cargohold
- 2x Vespa Medium Scout-Drones
I have a quite new char - not yet massively skilled (about 400.000 SP and only Mining II) - was more in Mission Running until now.
The idea of the setup is to tank any damage as long enough to be able to warp out...
Any comments?

Here's a little twist on the whole ninja-mining concept.
Mine isn't exactly this layout, but it works very well.
Osprey
XeCl Drilling Beam I XeCl Drilling Beam I XeCl Drilling Beam I Prototype Cloaking Device I
Medium Shield Booster II 'Stalwart' I Particle Field Magnifier Heat Dissipation Amplifier II Magnetic Scattering Amplifier II
Partial Hull Conversion Expanded Cargo Partial Hull Conversion Expanded Cargo Partial Hull Conversion Expanded Cargo
1172 shield, 3.91/s, E/T/K/Ex=46/57/40/60 976 armor, E/T/K/Ex=60/44/25/10 843.75 cap, +11.44/s, -18.375/s 168.75 m/s
4x Light Drones of your choice for NPC defense
==========================================================
I've never lost this ship: As long as you stay on the ball, watch local, and keep a finger on that cloak, you're golden.
Khab There are only four things in life. The first one is Love: Cherish that one, and keep it safe, for the other three are Fear, Hatred, and Sorrow. |

Well, my char isn't much for mining, but there's times when I go out and do it. Plus I've been around for only a bit over a month so I can't use T2 stuff so my typical setup goes:
Hi 3x XeCL
Med 2x Large Shield extenders 1x named ECM
Low 2x Warp stabilizer 1x Shield power relay
and 2x hammerhead drones
it's all t1 stuff and it tanks well enough to not worry about rats my drones tend to do the trick. If a pirate is to warp in, I usually am able to make it out. I'm also not worried about cargo space since I pack it into a can and haul it later. If you're not worried about getting scrambled go ahead and replace the WCS with expanders __________________________________

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER think you are NOT going to be scrambled. Every pirate is either webbing or scrambling you first (or even both). Doing so you cannot warp away any more and the rest of the gang warps in to finish the job and deal the damage! That's it!

Nothing goes in mids there are no rats, so you do't need anything in the mids a roid scanner is optional.

Ok, I really don't understand why everyone wants shield extenders and all that crap. To get the absoulte most out of your osprey, you have to use the above fitting. You will need Electronics 4 to be able to have enough CPU.
If you want to make the most mining, then there you go. don't worry about tanks because if you are in hi-sec, drones will take care of them quickly enough. If you are in lowsec or 0.0, you better have someone covering you, because you don't belong there alone in an osprey anyway.

If you train electronics to 5 and mining laser upgrades to 4, then you should be able to fit three upgrades.
The problem with three upgrades is that if you loose concentration for a few seconds, you can overfill your cargo hold. If you do that too often, then you are loosing more than 5% of what you mine and you might as well not fit the upgrade.
