There is another thread on the ice type debate. In short I find the current situation problematic as it hurts people based on race and not what they do. Yes, 00 existance should be hard - but hurting people baed on a geographical/race combo is not in line with the general treating of the race issue.
I would have liked a more differentiated answer from Oveur on this, because there is a difference between regional variance and relating same variance to the race of players. Ice represents the latter in relation to jump drive operation(yes, ship race is not related to player race - but lets be honest - when it comes to dreads you are prone to be stuck with a specific race because of the prereqs). But by all means pile different benefits and deficits into different regions - as long as I can go there and make my mark, independent from the race I chose 2 years ago.
But, Thrace, while I think the change that you use as a trend pointer would be a good one (if it was true), I still think it was a good post and nicely put.
Predator/prey is a good picture.
But both predator and prey is driven by survial. I miss from the picture the ones that would be labelled sociopaths/psychopaths. While the players prob arent either, there are many chars and organisations in eve exhibiting the action pattern of either. They dont hunt/scavenge out of need like a predator or its prey. And they are so overrepresented in Eve that they need to be taken into account. They are the ones driving the the Prey into a continual flight of hurt and moaning. Because they dont stop once they have weeded out the weakest from the pack.
Not saying something should be done about that, no sir. But they are supreme at driving the prey - and to some extend the predator - part of the population into a frenzy, where they will destroy their surroundings to escape. Read: Moan on forum.
And the a division at the lowsec/highsec border, that another guy made, is definately daft. Production might not be the 30 second intense action - but it can be just as cutthroat and just as risk filled as Thrace also pointed out. And I have seen several "pirates" in low sec exhibit many aspects attributed to prey.
Ultimately thats an adrenaline issue - not a risk taking issue.
And I don't think there is such a trend btw. Most changes lately cater to the ones sticking their heads out there. But a good post, none the less.
