Edited by: Aurix Lexico on 03/02/2008 23:11:10 I haven't found an answer so far, so, I'm gonna ask it here. I'm running Ubuntu 7.10.
Anyways, I ran into the same BindIoCompletionCallback problem as the people on pages 56-60ish, so, I added
87.237.39.199 work_you_damn_thing 87.237.39.200 work_you_damn_thing
to my /etc/hosts file, and then ran
/etc/init.d/networking restart
but when I ping 87.237.199, and 87.237.200 I still get a response, and EVE still crashes. I'm on a wireless network, if that matters.
Or, you could tell me how to get wine-git, and install the patch mentioned on page 59 (second from the bottom)

Actually you don't need git to fix that problem...its been fixed for bit now. (.9.54 works just fine.)
ohh, , updated wine, and it's fixed. ty

Just one more thing, does anyone know how to connect to the test server? I tried setting advancednetworking in prefs.ini, but that didn't work. I then tried to change boot.ini, and but that failed validation, and I had to reinstall eve.

Originally by: Otar Kinsbane When trying to install Eve on Wine, I get through the verifying installer section, but right after it's done verifying, it tells me
Quote: This installer requires admin access, try again.
I searched the forums for a solution and I wasn't able to find one that works, any suggestions?
I got that before too, open up winecfg, and change your OS to win98, and try it again.

Just compiled wine 0.9.61 on my Ubuntu 7.10/amd64/geforce 7300 box. Copy+paste appears to have broke, and sprites don't have transparency with premium graphics. My nidhoggur still has quite a bit of graphic weirdness with premium graphics. Rolling back to wine 0.9.58. |

Just compiled/installed wine 1.0 rc-1 on the same machine mentioned before (Ubuntu 7.10, AMD64, Geforce 7300 LE), and just felt like updating this thread . Classic graphics run flawlessly so far, but premium graphics are still messed up. Stations (haven't checked a capital yet) don't render, sprites still don't have transparency, and I still take a massive fps hit when undocking. What is a bit weird is that I get slightly more fps in station with premium graphics over in station with classic graphics. I guess this is all just a result of my crappy graphics card though?

Yeah, everything rendered fine in windows, but it was really slow
Anyways, turning the HDR button on then off again fixed all the lights for me, and helped reduce the lag outside a bit. The Caldari station I undocked from still didn't render though.

To fix that stupid corrupt background, press esc, and go to the first tab on the left (is it called generic?) and change the color depth.

Step 1 - Download wine's source, wine 1.0 rc-1 is here. Step 2 - Extract it (right click it in nautilus (or whatever file browser you use) and press extract here) Step 3 - Using your file browser navigate to wine-1.0-rc1/dlls/rsaenh/ Step 4 - Open up rsaenh.c in your favorite text editor, search for "/* salt length can't be greater than 128 bits = 16 bytes */", then comment out (put two /'s in front of) "SetLastError(ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER);" and "return FALSE;" Step 5 - Open a console and cd to the directory you extracted wine to (in my case I would use "cd /home/******/Desktop/wine-1.0-rc1") Step 6 - type "./configure" in your console then "make install" and get a cup of tea then "sudo make install" (make sure you have removed wine if you have already installed it)

I had something like that before. IIRC, opening winecfg and setting wine to act like windows 95/98 fixes that. Switch back to xp to actually play EVE though.

A picture is worth a thousand words ...

EDIT: oh, and it was doing the same thing in my edited 1.0 rc-2 install yesterday.

I've always used the auto-patcher (well, one time I used a download manager because the connection was dropping out) but I've never had any errors like that. |

You need to upgrade wine in order to use HDR. Wine 1.1.1+ I believe.

I am going to assume then, that 1.1.1 is not in the repositories for ubuntu because what I have is the latest version. I'll see if the wine site has a newer version.
Correct, wine has it's own repository, or you could download a .deb from here.

Trying grabbing wine 1.1.2 from here, and turning HDR on, then back off again.

Both of those are known issues. I believe some dev said somewhere along the line that the scrambled background was a driver issue? (not too sure on that)

Like I said, I don't really know what the problem is, that's just what I think a dev said awhile ago.
Anyways, as far as I know, there is no way around it except changing your color depth whenever it happens.

The "double click in space and the client freezes" bug is no longer in wine 1.1.4
This was probably exclusive to the geforce 7 series (or maybe just my card, I don't know).
Anyways, it's fixed, and wow, I forgot how good premium gfx looks.

The "EVE ****s up on losing focus so you have to run it in a virtual desktop" bug appears to be fixed in wine 1.1.8. Requesting confirmation?

I've found wine to be alot more stable than the official client. I can't remember the last time eve crashed.
Petition it anyways, GMs like to reimburse NPC losses.
