Hi,
Sry if I have not read all of the postings to Linux. I'm new to Linux. Matter of fact I'm downloading Ubuntu 6.06LTS right now. Just a few questions about Linux and gaming. What kind of fps can I expect compared to windows xp pro?
I'm running the following: win xp pro sp2 bfg geforce 6800 oc 256mb modded to quadro 4000 intel 2.4c stock 1 gig ram
My current fps are in station - 114 fps and in space depending on how many are logged in between 24 to 85 fps --- gaming play and warping from gate to gate or warping to stations.
Thanks....

I have downloaded 9.35 and then read the postings here. I uninstalled it and downloaded wine 9.34 to a folder on my desktop. How do I install from there? I'm using ubuntu 7.04.
Thanks

Servarus James,
Yeah, just trying to learn linux is very interesting. Kind of reminds me of the old days of programming. I hate to sound too ignorant as a linux beginner, but how do you "run" a command line?
I did figure out pretty quickly that one can not just double click on an "install" file to run a program. A lot is done through the terminal. I did open a terminal and there's a prompt. And, I did figure out that in order to get to the directory or subdirectory, one must type in the whole line...not just part of it like you can in DOS. So, how does one run ./configure command?
Would it be something like this at the prompt? (let's say that the eve folder is under a partition called "home" and the folder is called as you stated wine34)
<prompt> /home/wine32/./configure
It's a start for me and I appreciated all the help that you are giving me. I hope to totally go to linux and get rid of windows.
Also, I heard about a program called Winecvs and it can run directx 9?
thanks for the help again.

Thanks for the info! That helped a bunch. I'll post back later. And, I have a feeling that this is not going to be the end of needing help.

Edited by: Pyrius Omega on 20/05/2007 19:59:49 ok,
Got the following:
Ubuntu 6.06 installed wine 0.9.36 installed Lastest Eve install
got the following error and need help on figuring how to fix... user@user: ~$ nice -19 wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/CCP/EVE/EVE.exe fixme:process:IsWow64Process (0xffffffff 0x33fc34) stub! fixme:actctx:FindActCtxSectionString@ 00000000 (null) 2 L"msvcr80.dll" 0x347b6c
I did the RedistD3DOnly.exe and hit enter but it returned a prompt, so I guessed it worked to a point....
Any help is appreciated
edited: Just read another post that was interest....Could this be a MS fonts issue, because the EVE startup background comes up but there's no login screen and then it crashes.

Edited by: Pyrius Omega on 21/05/2007 11:13:01 Hi Servarus,
I have .36 setup with with Eve. It runs really slow. However; after reading your last post, I don't think that I have the open gl drivers. Could you point me to them? I did copy the arial.ttf from the regular windows to the windows' folder within drive_c.
The game does load but paint drying is much faster. Could not having the opengl drivers be the cause of this? Btw, I did start using Ubuntu 6.06. Would it be better to upgrade to 6.10 or 7.04 for better performance?
Also, I followed the install guide by Brindig on page 35. But did not load the nvidia glx drivers. I'll load the latest drivers tonight. Would the line be "sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx" ?

Servarus,
I have an Nvidia card. However; I did use the sudo apt-get for the glx drivers on the 6.06 system and rebooted. Started the game up and it gave a bunch of 'glx' errors and stating that it could not initialize opengl blah, blah, blah. I'll upgrade to 7.04 this evening.
