Cant say Ive noticed this before but recently sitting outside Jita my ship has started randomnly locking onto peple. I can be sat outside docked and I select any ship and do a right click > look at or right click > show info. If i dont de-select the person (who ive just looked at the ship or info) after a period of time i hear the locking noise and start locking onto them.
I guess the random docking bug that affects minmitar ships (clear skies) is also a problem for caldari cruisers locking mechanism ? :P |

The problem is most likely that while they are still selected in your overview, you for one reason or another accidentally or intentionally hit the ctrl key, causing them to be target locked. This is a bug that's been around for a while now but hasn't yet been addressed by CCP. You'll also note that having a warpable object selected in your overview and hitting the S key warps you to that object, or having the station selected and hitting the D key docks you. Instead of working as intended where you would have to hold down any one of these keys and make a click to perform the action, the object you want to act upon only has to be selected in your overview. I hate this bug and have posted about it in my persistent bugs thread which hasn't had a dev response yet, they're too busy posting about what they would say if they woke up to the avatar above them in their bed. |

What bongpacks describes is actually how this is intended to work if the overview is the active window and something selected.
Hold Key + Click (for the appropriate shourtcuts) will work as long as a) nothing is selected OR b) the overview is not the active window
As soon as you click something in the overview (selecting it) and then pressing one of the keys that do stuff with the object (W, A, S, D, Ctrl, Alt to name the most common ones) and keep the overview the active window, the according key presses will act directly on the selected target.
If this behavior is preferable probably comes to personal preference in the end, though. GM Karidor | Senior Game Master |

This is why it is best to erase out as many of the default shortcuts as possible. No shortcuts at all beats the existing shortcuts system. Unfortunately, ctrl-click is so vital to gameplay and there's no way to divorce it from the crappy shortcut system. Basically, live with it. |

Thanks for the insight. I was thinking that this was working intermittently because sometimes it would work for me (warping immediately or docking) and sometimes it would not. Having that piece of information, about overview being selected, helps.
I personally like that system as it really does help if you want to perform a lot of movements quickly.
Real shortcut keys would be something like:
Shift-S = Warp to the Star immedately Shift -G = Warp to closest Gate immediately
That would be way more helpful imo. Sometimes with certain overviews and certain time constraints it's pretty difficult to fumble with overview tabs and select the right object to warp to. |
