The mission CAN be done. DON'T break the sign. Even though a hint drops into the new mission the guy at the shaman's base tells you about.
Highlight the base, click the talk button. It'll be blinking at you. Don't threaten. Tell him you want more information. It won't really give you an opportunity to accept that mission, which is good. You kidnap his daughter and break that sign you'll take a couple of Minmatar faction hits.
End that conversation. Talk to him again. Eventually he will offer you another way to get the mission done. Accept the mission to attack the Angels (usually a system away). To complete that mission you'll need to head back to this area and talk to him again. He'll give you the Shaman as a reward, but the shaman will be bugged so that they can recapture him. The Minmatar will like you for having been a bit sneaky in support of their guy. The Corp that gave you the original mission will be none the wiser. Win win scenario for you.
This mission isn't broken, per se. It's just a little weird how you have to go about doing it. And it's rather risky, if you value your status with the Minmatar.

This mission works. But there's a lot of traps and bugs.
Here is how i made it.
First, get to Moon 2 of the 4th planet. You'll be in front of a resort. Talk to the NPC guarding it. Tell him you need to meet Logut, and then ask for more info. You can't accept the mission. Talk to him again and threaten him. You'll have accepted the mission. You now need to blow up the Neon near the Resort and get the key then use the Gate.
In this little pocket, you should find a single hostile ship and an Habitat. That's all, nothing more. The ship holds in its container the daughter of Logut. Shoot down the bird and warp back to the resort via the gate. Talk to the Resort and tell him you've got something he'll find interesting. And... VOILA! You've got your Logut in the cargo hold.
Trick is, the hostile ship will NOT spawn if the habitat is not present. (Thank you Cap'n No-Beard for the info!) If you wait dumbly, shooting the habitat and its 10 refugees drop, you'll be there for hours.
Quest is kinda buggy, but easily doable. and 210k total reward makes it worth it at the begining... As well as the rep bonus.

the only problem I've had with this mission is the long spawn time for the pirate that you have to kill to get logut to come out. I just logged from waiting for over an hour as players would swoop in and get him, heh. I sat through three spawns. quest becomes boring.

I had similar problems as those above, but finally solved it. One thing to remember, ASK questions in game. On the chat channel, rookie or local.
Also, know there are TWO different ways to complete the mission. You must find "Logut's Abode", located at Planet 4, Moon 2. Right-click on the planet or in the space in the area, and drill down the menu to "Moon" and choose "2".
Once you get to Logut's Abode, you'll encounter Logut's *Assistant*. He won't let you talk to Logut, but will give you instructions to find a *Key* to use on the *Gate*, that is very nearby.
You'll probably notice other ships coming and going. They will come and blow up the *broken* Neon Sign. That is how you find the *Key*, you have to blow the sign up. The problem is that the once blown up the sign must respawn---and this takes awhile. Meanwhile, while waiting for the respawn, other players will showup waiting for the sign to respawn too. Unfortunately, there is only *1* key per explosion. So waiting can get tedious.
I suggest foregoing the Key and choosing the second option to find Logut. When the Assistant refuses to give you access to Logut---THREATEN him. You do this by choosing the option to blow the place up. He will then present you with the option to do a *Mission* for Logut. Accept the Mission and complete it.
[I discovered this because I became so frustrated that I didn't care anymore and decided to choose the second option of BLOWING up Logut's Abode---just because I couldn't take it anymore. I was going to forget the mission and blow him for fun---sheer frustration. I guess the developers must have anticipated this happening :() ]
Hint, the Mission involves killing some rats, and is one step more difficult than previous missions. You'll probably need to think twice to defeat the rats, and you *may* need to re-outfit your ship. Hint: generally (given everyone has done well to this point), only *1* of the rats is really dangerous. Kill him and the rest are easy.
Once you kill all the rats, go back to the Assistant and he will give you Logut.
This Mission was a total PITA **puzzle**. I hope there isn't more of this type of thing. I hate Puzzle games. It's a real throw-back to the 80s single-player games, where virtually all games involved puzzle solving.
Note to the developers, while Eve is a very intriguing and challenging game, it is VERY often Tedius, Dull and Overly frustrating. There is absolutely no need, and as this thread testifies----it is no FUN---, to further add to the tedium and frustration by creating PUZZLES!
Creating interesting and non-inane puzzels is a distinct talent. PC Game developers have many distinct talents, creating game puzzels (of any type) is NOT one of them. I understand and greatly appreciate, to the need and effort to create a sort of *single-player* experience with a MMO, but 'Finding Logut' fully misses the mark.
I believe the overall purpose of the Missions is to gradually guide newbie players along a path that will progressively increase their knowledge and skills. 'Finding Logut' does nothing toward such an aim.
Thanks for reading.

Edited by: Arghorg on 30/11/2006 00:27:44 Yes this mission really, REALLY, sucks. I lost my ship to Concord because I happened to shoot at the ****ed wreck of the sign. Ok. It's not really a problem that I lost the ship, it's just cheap frig. But I saw wrecks of Cruisers around there. How do you think new players who start doing lvl 1 missions are going to react after getting their asses handed to them by concord because the mission is pure suckage?
And another thing. After losing my ship, I decided to continue the mission anyway. I went shopping for new ship and after 45 tedious minutes (including the wait for criminal countdown go down) my ship was ready for another try. Ok I hit the right sign and go through the gate. But MY MY! What do I find from the otherside? A sodding LINE of people waiting to kill that guy. A LINE TO KILL A RAT? You really have to make this mission private and unique for every player. A LINE in a mission where you have to wait 2 hours to get your item? Dudes & dudettes.. This mission.. It blows. Hard. If it was a girl I would...
Don't do it unless you have ABSOLUTELY nothing else to do (really, even veldspar mining with 1 mining laser is more rewarding). I was in line with 4 other guys and I was the last one who arrived there. I asked how often the guy would spawn and I got an reply "it's been 25 mins since last one. It's probably 30 mins". Ok.. Let's see. Let's do some elementary school math here. 30 * 4 = 120. 120/60 = 2. 2 hours.. 2 hours pure waiting, sitting and staring at the overview?!?
I don't mean to be ***** but the mission was ***** to me first..
FIX THE MISSION!
End of rant.

I just spent almost a hour 'working' on this mission, which consisted of sitting with a bunch of other players waiting for a spawn to arive, just to try to be the one who gets the killing blow so i could get the loot. Really good work CCP, fire the guy who wrote this one.

I'm in the line myself now and while I can't say as its "Improving my Gameplay Experience", I can understand it as a punishment for threatening Logut's assistant.
Having said that, of all of the missions I've done to date this is the first one where the actual text of the agent discussion had any use whatsoever. I learnt the hard way from missions like "The Missing Reporters (1 of 3) The Caldari Smugglers" that paying attention to what the agent says is counter-productive.
If you are given a single orange link, irrespective of what it says, it means "Do you have any work for me?". If you are given three, the top one is accept, the middle one is decline and the bottom one is details. Given that this is an Important Storyline mission there was no way I was going to refuse it.
What I'd like is four options on that page for Logut's assistant: Threaten (and get the queue), Cajole (and get the other mission), Refuse (takes all types to make a world), Details.
I don't know if the mission system can support that, but it is what I'd like to see.

The mission has been changed. It no longer seems possible to get the "secret" mission. The appropriate approach is to threaten (or not) the assistant, but check your journal after you talk to him. Blow up the busted sign (but not one of several busted sign WRECKS, as concord will pay you an unfriendly visit), go forcibly pick up the daughter, and fly your way back. The mission sequence now helps you faction, and does not hurt it.
This mission is still bad, but now is a bit less bad.

This is an unitended sideeffect of wrecks, not nearly as easy to work with as the previous loot cans. And definately doesn't work the same way.

Tried this missions an hour ago, warped to the habitat as it says after seeing at least two people get blasted by concord and what do I find? Two caracals and a whirlwind sitting there and blasting the habitat every time it spawns. Most uncool. I'm about to try and see if i can complete the mission the other way people here have posted but its not much fun waiting for hours.

Yep, as set up now the 4th part of the mission is extremely lame. Even if someone isn't deliberately trying to wreck it for other people, the spawn mechanic of Dari Akell makes this very tedious, especially if several people are trying to do the mission at once.
Of course, the opportunity for lamz0ring through spawnstealing and giving out bad information is really high--and there was at least one person in local taking advantage of this and holding up at least a dozen other people. Several people had been suckered into attacking the wrecked neon signs and getting Concorded, and a few more had lost ships because they didn't understand the can flagging rules and had gotten owned by the lamer.
I think most people who get this mission early on are going to get a very bad impression of EVE. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Edited by: Kii Law on 18/12/2006 21:01:42 After much frustration doing this mission the first time I rolled Minmatar, I did my research and selected my options very carefully on a throwaway character to figure this mission out once and for all. Here is the Correct Way to complete this mission:
Shaman Secrets 4/5 Objective: obtain Logut Akell for Pinala Adala
Warp to Eram IV, Moon 2. Speak to "Logut's Abode" (You will get Hlebnar Tonari, Logut's assistant) Tell him you have come for Logut, he'll deny you access. Close the Window..
Speak to him again, this time choose the middle option that begins with "Uh, okay. Sorry to bother you." ((Something like that, dont have the exact text) -- There is no need to threaten him.)
He will offer you another mission in exchange for Logut's assistance. (Just select the "I'll Wait" option) This new mission is called "The Shaman's Will". (Check your journal for location) You should have about an hour to complete it.
Before you leave, bookmark Logut's abode so you can return to it quickly.
Go and complete The Shaman's Will mission and return to Hlebnar at Eram IV Moon 2.
You will receive Logut once you complete that, and can then safely take Logut back to Pinala and complete Shaman Secrets.
No negative faction hits using this method.
Now.. if I could just figure out what to do with these blasted Graduation certificates. But that's for another thread I am sure.

Petitioned for my stuff and standing points back.
Even the guy that popped up doing my petition said there should have been a key IN the wreck and that I should have had to shoot it - which of course resulted in my getting blown to bits.
After telling the guy in the hideout that I'd blow him up he declined further conversation but the mission was accepted. However - no way to get a key. I've come back with a new frigate (grumble) only to have him refuse to talk to me because the mission isn't complete. So I decline the mission thinking I can start over - nope. Now I'm on 4 of 5 and can't go forward.
Idiot that wrote this one for sure. My first finding in EVE that is bull**** with no hope of recovering my $isk lost or faction standings. Incredible bs. ~~~~~

Don't blow up the wreck(s), blow up the sign itself. It spawns once every 5 minutes, and if you Show Info on it, it will be labeled "Wanted"--that's your indication that it (or anything) is ok to blow up with out getting Concorded.
After you blow it up, the Passkey can be found in its wreck. However be careful. If there are other people around, make sure that the wreck is assigned to you. Otherwise if you take the passkey, they'll get killrights on you. Likewise be careful if someone offers you the key. There is at least one guy in Eram (named "Keiber") who gets his jollies out of screwing with anybody who comes to the mission site, and he seems to spend hours there doing little else. He'll lie about the spawning rules and what it takes to get Concorded, he farms the passkeys and tries to trick or provoke people into canstealing, and he'll steal keys if he thinks he can get away with it. And if nothing else he'll offer to sell the passkey to you for a few hundred k. Even if you make it past that, he'll have no compunctions about going into the *next stage* and screwing with you there.
The next stage requires blowing up a hostile ship and picking up the loot. A few things: there's no limit on how many people can be in the deadspace, so it can get tedious. The ship seems to spawn every 10 minutes if nobody screws it up, and again, you have to be careful about looting only your can if you don't want to deal with the consequences. And there's a habitation module in the deadspace too. While this can be blown up safely, doing so seems to prevent the NPC from spawning. So *Don't Blow Up the Habitation Module*. If Keiber's there, he'll either blow it up himself, or better yet, tell you that you have to blow it up to finish the mission. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Edited by: Fenana on 04/02/2007 18:57:35 Edited by: Fenana on 04/02/2007 18:57:16 This is the correct way to compleate this mission - yes, it is a lot of sarcasm in this "help".
This is the hardest mission I have done, and I do lvl4 Worlds collide. I took a 3 howitzer fitted Rifter with an AB and a shield booster and thought it was going to be a piece of cake. First you go to Eram IV - Moon 2 (thanks to forums). There u find a bunch of Neon signs wreck, an interactive agent and 5-6 other players waiting for some.
you speak to the agent and he refuses to give you Logut Akell, and u get another mission when u push "back" and ask him another time. You should get hold of D*** Akell (forgot the name). To get hold of her is to go through the gate at the same grid you are. To get the gate to work you need a keycard from the blasted NEON SIGN wreck.
problem 1: there are 5 other pilots there, they look very interrested in getting first to the NEON SIGN wreck... u might get there before them and take the keycard, but then you "steal" from their can and they might open fire on you. You try to outrun them to get to the gate before them (as they cant follow when they got no keycard *hihi*)
you warp
next stage is a very quitet stage with probably a bunch of Habitat Wrecks and another 5-6 pilots waiting for some. The habitat module spawns and some guy shouts in local not to kill it and wait for D Akell to spawn. You paddle towards the habitat waiting .... for Miss Akell to spawn.
problem 2: some guy from the stage before has got hold of keycard and are now in pursuit of you for stealing his keycard 10 minutes ago. Fight him off and smack about his mother in local....
Finally after waiting for more than X minutes she do spawn, gets killed by 5 anxious 1 day old characters in their tier2 frigates. Race with them to get D. Akell from the wreck and warp off to a safe place. Then go back to the interactive agent in stage 1 again!
yes... u guessed it... problem 3: u get back to trade D. Akell to the agent to get Logut Akell. 4 of the guys you stole the keycard from are there... u come in still flashing red and they try to take u down with your precious cargo you waited 1 hour for...
you might get to the agent and then back to station with Logut Akell. Mabye.
Summary:
1. go to Eram IV Moon 2 2. talk to interactive agent twice 3a. blast neon sign and get hold of the keycard or 3b. get keycard from another player blasting the sign 4. warp the gate to second stage 5-50. wait 51a. Kill D.Akell's ship and take out her of her wreck and put her safely on pillows in your ship. or 51b. steal D.Akell from her wreck before the other players get there 52. warp to a celestial object 53. Go back to first stage 54. Talk to Interactive agent, say you are done. Get hold of Logut Akell 55. warp back to your agent's station and compleate the mission 56-60. smack with other players in local.

This is the first part of the mission (1 of 5), so it's obviously been done before, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the ships to spawn so I can get a live pilot?
Others have asked, but I don't see a response, if anybody knows, please give this noob a clue plz!

This is without doubt the worst mission I've done in Eve, badly thought out and designed.
I wanted to find out what the Graduation certificates system was like, and tried out the Minmatar one. I took an AF with me as it was all I had in the hangar at the time.
The 4th part of this mission set ends up with people waiting for spawns, the neon sign which respawns quite quickly and Dari (whatever) who doesn't.
Ships competing with me on this mission included, 2 AF's, a HAC, a cruiser, some tier 2 frigs (the right ship to be doing this in) and a CNR!
People I spoke to in Eram had been waiting hours to get the respawn and be in the right place to get the can, newbs running missions for the first time have virtually no chance unless the rest of the people are playing nice and forming an orderly queue for the respawn. (This did actually start to happen while I was there with a couple getting through while the rest watched, but it only takes one 'tard for the system to turn into every pilot for himself).
Please, please rethink this mission design, as an introduction to missions for starting players it really sucks.
