With the stacking reducers and large energy turrets balancing around the corner (apart from the weaker lasers and tachyons) are u intending to change from your amarr battleship to another race so u have more of the useful medium slots/BS features?
Or are you thinking of changing from your current Battleship to something new in light of up coming changes/balancing?
I have an armageddon which i use for NPC hunting and am thinking of a change

I had grave reservations regarding my choice of Scorpion after I found out about the stacking change and the reduction in shield hardeners resistance (along with improvements to shiled boosting/armour repairers) but I see it as a good thing AS LONG as large turrets tracking is hugely increased.
It's ridiculous that a lot of battleship owners find they do more damage with 650mm Scouts than 800mm artillery cannons.
Sure, I get more powerful strikes with 800mm artillery cannons, but they miss a helluva lot too compared to 650mm Scouts.
I'm still waiting to see how the 800mm's do when they are changed into 80mm autocannons in next patch.

Well, you can always use some armor/sensor stuffs in your lowslots. Won't help very much vs NPCs, though.

If NPC were vulnerable to EW I'd find it so easy to just kill Juggernaut after Juggernaut after Juggernaut without even bothering with hardeners or shield boosters, though.

My crystal ball tells me people will now stop using an all projectile/all hybrid/all laser setup.
People will start to mix laser/projectile or hybrid/projectile to take advantage of their various strengths rather than relying on l33t dmg mods making their one-weapon type setup awesomely powerful.
Lasers rule shields. Projectile (with the right ammo) owns armour/hull Hybrids do a bit of both (and are a ***** to counter with tac shields because everyone forgets to equip those kinetic ones).

Don't forget about stacking penalties too. Using a mixed turret setup with mixed low slots (gyro, magnetic and heat sink) may end up better because they won't stack with one another --------------------------- (c) Copyright Saladin, 2005. Edited by: The Wretch on 06/09/2003 23:32:15 Arma will still be one of the most highest damage dealing ships in the game after changes.
And still as tactically stupid as ever with 3 low slots .

With all those lowslots the Amarr ships can still load up massive amounts of armour. --- soonÖ |

I predict a massive insurgence of Tempest BS's in the near future.
Like gallante they get the damage bonues for the level of the BS skill but with Projectiles. Also Projectiles have had a major turn around and will be a decent weapon system to use especially in a tempest.
The Tempest also has 5 medium slots. 5 Medium slots allows for a decent amount of flexability.
After the patch they will get +100 cpu and an extra low slot.
When the patch goes live people will face these ships and Complain that they are now to tough again, but like me they just knew what to expect and catered for it.
By the time the patch comes out ill have level 4 in both large projectiles and minmater BS skill. Thats a 40% damage increase.

thx for all you comments, ill takr a look at the tempest after this patch (although im not too keen about ammo weapons)...
It looks like (as usual) theve over compensated on a few changes.... this arises cos they only consider 1 change at a time and not the effect that several have in unison.. theres also that pesky fact that people think up new things as a result of the changes :)
thx again

I also agree that Tempest will be very good Projectiles enhancement and missile enhancement speaks in its favor.
The tac shield nerfing was very welcome. +70% dmg resistance was to much since you could sustain these puppies indefinitly.
40% was a little low imo though. But maybe tech 2 will be 50%?
You failed to mention that Raven will do some serious ownage too. I was about to get another BS skill then caldari because I wanted some flexability. And Raven was not an option
It will be now though. So I'll hang on to caldari for a while longer

Edited by: illuminati on 07/09/2003 10:35:38 I dont know enough about damagemod nerf but I tried out tachyons on Chaos with build 1197. They ate cap roughly 50% faster and did roughly 50% more damage, with current setup I did mostly hits for 200-300 damage at 15-30k distance with gamma crystals. Clearly now intended to be 1-2 guns per ship with hard first-strike but zero stamina weapon.
Until now they were the only gun worth using presuming the opponent doesnt have 2 thermal shields.
After this patch, projectiles will be back in business just like they should since they are not in business at all atm. Hunting together with a BS using 800mm or something is a laugh, they generally wait 2 minutes before asking what damagemods I'm using. More balance yes but laser total suckage no.

I think you will find Amarr battleships to be be a very viable ship after the patch. Experiment a bit and you'll see.

On chaos one of the bug hunters challenged ships to fight against their armageddon, I fielded a megathron using I think 6 modal mega neutron blasters and 1 h-50 arbalest. Expecting lasers I had thermal and em hardeners and a tracking computer.
I got the jump on the attacking, had the hardeners on, tracking computer on and plenty of cap. I think I managed to take down the sheilds before the armageddon started firing, but then after it did start my ship took quite a beating.
End result the megathron was toasted , so as far as the armageddon/laser's future is concerned they are still heavy damage dealers which work well to complement a force, despite the changes.
(note: the BH claimed it could defeat any ship without EW stuff so no EW stuff was used against it)

Edited by: Angelsfist on 07/09/2003 19:11:22 One of the joys, of people using the same kits as everyone else is that they plan their attack under the assumption that everyone plays the same way as well.
I've been testing various loadouts on my apoc and for those who think they are a beam omly ship, well think again.
All the planned nerfs will do is make those who plan accordingly better off down the road.

i found a low module slot that gives 11.5% armor,
i found out that if i dont fit any armor enhancers extra, ill get 650+ armor because of this module. Using 2x armor repairers instead of a shield and shieldhardeners = maybe a good idea.
im gonna experiment.
Also i have almost all bs skills ready for any class, im training caldari now and minmatar after that. :) __________________________

Excellent but armor needs to stop bleeding damage to structure. If they don't I'm staying with my shields.

Korben, we are going though this discussion now here in our corp.
I have started trying some other configs before the patch on my Arma to get rid of the Photonic CPU and see what I can do in the way of turrets. Having no missile bay was not a problem since we didn't feel missiles were economical in battle, but now that they got some love, we now will consider missiles in the game plan.
That brings our discussion of whether or not to purchase a couple of Scorpions. We will decide whether or not we purchase a couple more battleships after the patch is introduced and whether or not it affects our game. If we do not like the changes, or we are nerfed to badly, we will have no choice but to change ships/turrets/mods to something we are comfortable with.
