Well I guess CCP is really good at nerfing because they do it alot.
I just have one question however.
Why do they do they spend energy and time nerfing items and ships when they could be fixing more important things?
Even if they could balance the game and fix major bugs at the same I'd still rather they just fix the major bugs or add more content first.
Bottom line is CCP needs to stop jacking around with nerfing items and ships and fix the more important **** first

The ones that complain about the changes are the ones that relied too much on game imbalances. Don't get comfortable using over powered inbalanced game play mechanics.

And that nerf gun looks WEAK. (FYI, Hasbro has been "nerfing" their own guns... Older Nerf guns could shoot a lot farther and with more force than new ones. The old Crossbow could be turned into a pain-dealing welt-causing nightmare with a few simple tweaks. The last reasonably modifiable Nerf gun was the SM3000 - Put on 1-foot PVC barrels and increase the size of the air tank and and I was denting my closet door from the other end of my house. :) ------------ Ezra Cornell pe0n, Xanadu Corporation |

Edited by: Tristan on 07/09/2003 04:26:56 Ezra, your knowledge of nerf guns... scares me
lol
ive no problem with shield hardeners being tweeked, they need it.
however, guns are underpowered as it is. nerfing them more is just stupid. if the tachyon changes come over to TQ then nobody will use them, they use too much cap to use! even with full cap charging skills, lvl 4 Amarr battleship skill, 3 X 25% cap rechargers (no neg affect) and STILL they eat your cap before you kill the enemy.
There will be no point using guns when missiles are like they are on chaos. Every man and his dog will be flying ravens and using torps + cruise missiles = lot of dead people complaining their ship lasted <5 seconds in combat.
Also.. with missiles like they are on chaos, (yes they DID need buffing) what use are Defender missiles!?!?! I mean, defenders are useless as it is.. they already go after your drones or explode on your own ship, or detonate before they even leave the missile bay properly. but after the patch... Defenders will be even more useless than they already are, unless they get some MAJOR love.
i pity any man in a galante ship after the patch, as they are seriously screwed if these changes arent balanced properly.
Infact i pity anyone not in a raven.

Wretch and Revolution both have good points. The other server really shows the effect of these "nerfs" (some arent that bad at all). I for one am happy to see projectile weapons beefed up a bit but otherwise the effects seem pretty minor. Constant adjustment is part and parcel of the online course for these games (in my very limited experience) and an ongoing process. Raise one thing up, something else is thrown out of kilter, so adjust that, then this thing is out, and so on and so on. By the way Tristan, Love that nerf gun, made me laugh! Calladen

Edited by: Jim Raynor on 07/09/2003 07:24:58 Molly you make some good points sometimes, but this isn't one of those times.
I don't see much of a problem here.. base turret stats are improving, but damage module stacking is getting nerfed. Nothing wrong about that, low slots should have a better purpose than to be soley for damage mods, stacking them provides results so powerful that there really is no other reason to not fill them with damage mods.
All this will do is force people to use different setups.. perhaps 3 heatsinks will be enough, and after that you can use power diagnostics, armor upgrades.. yanno the stuff that is useless when you can achieve huge damage modifiers and insanely low ROF by stacking the hell out of damage mods..
Since defenses are getting heavily nerfed this patch, I really don't see a problem with the change to turret damage mod stacking, or stacking in general.
I like most of these changes, personally. I think we have to keep in mind that we are still using tech 1 items mostly. Items will get much more powerful as they introduce tech II, III, IV.. ect (albiet SLOWLY).
Softening up tech I stuff might be necessary. ------

See Molly and his/her annoying comrades just like to cry "nerf" whenever something they liked to use gets a smacking because it was out of balance.
You seem to have no idea what these changes TomB is intruducing on Chaos actually do so why don¦t you just go and read the proper thread a few times before you come here to whine yet again? I¦m saying "a few times" cause I actually believe you wouldn¦t even understand after reading the entire thread 2 times in a row...
The changes done all make sense and balance the game and they¦re supported by most of the players as you can see in the Ships and Modules section so please for gods sake go there and see for yourself. You and your stupid sigs are so annoying it¦s unbelievable. ¦ou come here crying like stupid babies whenever things you liked to use become less effective.

I believe the reason the Apocolypse and Megathron ships have 2 launcher slots is for defenders, it might actually be a good defense once missles become popular, which I think they will.
Dominix and Armageddon lack launcher slots completely.. so they'd have to rely on smartbombs, which I don't think will be as effective, considering the sheer speed of missles now. Though smartbombs are pretty good for other stuff, like drone killing.
I already see WTB Raven bid on trade channel, never have seen that before. I got my Raven the other day so I'm ready for some missle pwnage. =]
I bet Mimnatar ships will become much more popular.. few guys in corp have Tempests now, probably will be a good ship once the patch came. ------

Although I am less than thrilled about the upcoming changes to tachyons, is has prompted me to try even more diverse setups and I feel that they will be adequete when these new changes go live.
I do think it is silly though. An amarr Battleships should have the cap and powercore to run 8 tachyons successfully as beam weapons are their specialty but oh well. I think it'll be fine in the long run.
Anyway off to chaos to test some more fittings, cya all later

Heh, you can't be serious. If ships had the powercore to run 8 of the BEST turrets, what good would engineering skills or reactor control units be???
The Tachyon "nerf" was kinda necessary, with current module stacking, even with a 12sec ROF.. with good heatsinks.. and the Armageddon ROF bonus.. tachyons would still have a VERY VERY good ROF. ------

Jim, I did not clarify, so my apologies. My electronics and engineering skills are at 5 and energy grid ops , energy management etc are at 4's.
I was taking my skills into account and the current config of my ship as well.
Even still it would be unrealistic to use 8 of them. Of course w/ a damage multiplier of 6x I dont really need to. So like I said before, it'll be a OK

But I don't think that nerfing defensive modules is a good idea at all. None of you was able to explain me how shield hardners are imbalanced as of now (unless you want 70% hardeners to be Tech III or something).

Sorry, I see the shield hardener double nerf being the direct result of people whining about lasers being gimped. Especially the Tachyon users.
Wow...they can't mount 8 Tachs on a bship and do horrible things to people because people are smart enough to carry em/them hardeners. Can't just nerf em/therm so they all have to be nerfed.
I can deal with single hardeners going to 50%. The stacking is just overboard and addresses the wrong thing. Yes, 6 heat sinks is ungodly damage. At the ship's optimal range. Game mechanics prevent us from initiating combat outside their optimal range easily. I could care less if an Armageddon gets wooly on my ass with Tachs in it's optimal. Let me exit warp where I want and I'll choose a place outside of it. Or inside of it. Let me choose to make someone that specializes regret their specialty.
People will do the rest and move to more balanced setups.

Sorry Jash but I have to disagree. All of the major problems in the game so far have been stacking related. The base formula for stacking needs toning down.
Whatever else happens - well that's down to TomB, but the stacking formula has to change.
Mara/Passari and the resultant kneejerk sec system we now have to live with would never have happened but for the stacking system - OK so it was modules and skills there but even so. There are numerous other examples of it too - I'm sure you can think of a few yourself.
Bottom line is that stacking all the same modules should not give you an exponential increase. At best it should be linear.
One thing I don't agree with is TomB excluding some modules - this is just storing up problems. Set a formula for all modules and stick with it - that way we all know where we stand.

The fixed deployment style of combat in Eve + mechanics issues, like entry warp lag, made Mara/Passari possible more than anything. Along with the current length of battles.
I always opt to fix the problem, not the symptoms. That's all this is doing, fixing symptoms. People that stack all damage mods in their low slots have a smaller range than those that stack all range enhancers in their low slots. Problem is the people with range/tracking enhancers rarely get to utilize them. Till they fix the exit warp mechanics, the core issue will still be there and people will still go for as much Damage Per Second (the Holy Gospel of the Turret changes argument) every day.
And as a bandaid, this is a poor one. Personally I think it'd be better to modify the damage/range/ect module to act more like the Overdrive Injectors: balance benefit with a cost. Put a negative modifier to tracking on damage modules. Put a negative modifier to to RoF on targetting modules. Balance is positive AND negative. Color code the shield hardener effects and have boosting one resistance lower another resistance.
There's a difference between surgery and hatchet jobs. TomB is wielding an axe atm when the game has been in dire need of a scapel since beta. Well...except for anything with the name "Scout" on it

So far I find the Raven acceptable, though it is *currently* one of the weaker battleships in the game. The patch will make this ship entirely better with missles being deadly instead of slow, and cumbersome to deploy.
I was able to defeat a Scorpion, Dominix, and Armageddon 1v1 so far in my Raven with really no problem. I could do the same in my Scorpion though so /shrug. The extra launchers currently aren't worth losing 2 medium.. patch should make the extra firepower of the Raven worth it though.. ------

The blackbird was being misused imo. Instead of carefully selecting the ECM modules to use against a target and having to deal with the consequences if they chose wrong, people just slapped on sensor inhibitors to cut range down to almost nothing. Same effect as jamming, requiring less intellect and having no risk.
So I'm not particularly upset to see that go. If people want to shut down my Rupture with a Blackbird, they need to come armed with LADAR jammers. And pay the price if I'm in my Thorax. As for the rest of ECM/ECCM modules, such as backup LADAR arrays and ECM White Noise generators, I don't believe they apply. Their effects did not stack exponentially. They stacked cumulatively.
I mean its like you want corporations to oblige each other like its sex or something. Pffft I would rather **** my enemy.- Rohann
Be careful out there. That other guy waiting in the queue for the gate MIGHT be a baby-munching frock-burner, YOU JUST DON'T KNOW!- Lallante |
