Quote: The reason that Stain is commonly seen as a pirate organization is varied--but mainly because Stain isn't very consistent.
I've had polite and diplomatic talks with MASS representatives who were helpful and considerate, and I've heard about Stain wiping out the event fleet which joined in to fight the Jovians (if you're going to declare the loot just yours, fine, but give *advance* warning, don't invite people to it).
Everlasting and MASS may help ***** blockades in HED (not unlike CFS) but the Collective recently pirated a CFSN battleship in the area, on its way home.
As long as there are SA members committing piracy, and/or remains inconsistent in its policy, it'll have a hard time breaking that image. ------------
The Jove situation was very difficult for us. We thought that the Joves would spread themselves out over Stain, playing hide and seek with those hunting them. I helped where I could to organise non SA people into their own fleets, and made it clear that SA fleets wanted to fight by themselves.
This worked to some extent in the early fights, and loot went to non SA people.
The final fight also took us by surprise - we saw in the news that the Jovians would be bringing PC corps with them, and only realised this was true when we got messages from the Jovians they were coming to wipe us out - and saw great blobs moving towards us on the map. We also knew that RUS were gathering to attack us.
Stain is a non empire 0.0 area - we can be attacked by anyone, without warning and with no concequences to them. We had to tell all non SA people to leave or be considered enemies. In fact the majority that stayed were there to try and kill us - but some innocent people were no doubt killed.
Now time has passed and I hope tempers cooled a little - how would your Corps have handled it differently? Edward, I think you are responsible for defending your members, and I imagine you are finding that is not easy to do - and have everyone like you.
Killing pirates does not make you a good person - many pirate corps fight amongst themselves. Many good people do not kill pirates.
