Well, i was hunting for this guy in a Caracal, i found him and started doing the normal stuff Then he logged of in the middle of the battle To bad he didnt realise that since he shot back at me, his ship would remain under my warp scrambler When he logged in 2mins later, he was in a pod Funny note was that his ship was still shooting at me even tho he was offline. Just thought i share this nice little PvP experience i had before downtime

Timer applies even if he didnt shoot at you. As long as you've gone hostile on him before he logs he is in space for 15 mins. If he isnt scrambled he will warp but can be probed.

Sounds like he crashed to desktop. Disconcerting in a battle... . . . Regards, August Soldier of the Gooch |

This timer would be a lot better if it wasn't so easily exploited.

Agreed. We chased a guy through eight systems the other night and when we finally caught him and got two tacklers in range he simply went :poof: offline and warped away.

I actually had a situation where my soundcard locked Eve and it was in the middle of an engagement where my AC tempest was fighting a war target in a prophecy. When the card locked, I had just gotten him to structure and sustained next to no damage as usual with such a lopsided match.
Fortunately, upon Eve locking up I had the presence of mind to log into the same account\character on another computer and noted that after warping back to the engagement area there was his loot can, right were it should have been and my evemail light was flashing with the killmail $$$ Loot was crap but was nice to know that my ship kept fighting for me long enough to do the deed and evidently it warped out as well after the kill since again, apparently, he didn't have me scrammed when I was booted from the game by the hardware issue.

Its amazing how many people don't understand how the system works, we constantly pop hostiles after they logout (mainly due to having a fair few experienced cov-ops in our small group).
Last week we has an intie.. With stabs.... And a cloak... Scouting out our systems. He logged out immediately after being engaged by one of us, ship and pod were probed out and destroyed.

I was once fighting a Ferox in an Assault Frigate. I had him in 50% Shield after a while of fighting then I lost internet connection. Logged in 10 minutes later with Mailbox Flashing

This timer sucks to be perfectly honest.
We had a freighter log off on us at a gate yesterday we had a scrambling strength of 5 on it. It then mysteriously proceeded to dissapear into thin air.
Thats right it ditn't warp off at all it simply vanished, even from our scanners somethings wrong there I never think of the future - it comes soon enough. Albert Einstein |

if they log out before you get agro on them, then they will disapear within 30secs or so. Most commonly used to get freighters out of trouble
if freighter jumps into system and sees hostiles on gate, all he has to do is log off and hes safe.
sux, timer should be reset to 15mins from time of last shot, regardless of when he/she logs off.

I would be very much obliged if one of you pll who know how exactly the pvp log-out timer works could share his knowledge or point to the correct post/thread. thanks

Like most said, thankfully logging off (purposely or not) doesnt.
A) Stop your ship from firing back (or your drones).
B) Let you escape being killed. __________________________________________________________

Hum... are you sure?
For certain, I have had people logging off in a belt a few moments before I could reach them. I engaged them a few seconds later: not only the ship stood there, but I didn't even have to warpscramble them.
The pod does warp away though; not sure if it is actually impossible to catch, or just too fast for me.

I just lost my ship to NPCs a week and a half ago. Seems I stayed in game 30 minutes after I crashed, my character not warping away (I had to petition from another character to log in, and I saw myself going offline). The 1 NPC I was fighting kicked my ass. ---------- Please fix the scan probes!!! (also included a guide how to use them) |

thats a bug with server not logging you out properly, this has been known to happen that the client connection drops, but the server does not reognise this and will not allow you to log back in, its all out bug because when you are logged onto your account and thenopen another client to og into the same account, your first conection will drop and your second client will log back in. Petition it, get a negative response, then petition again to get your stuff back
@Herko
-if the guy was caught on roids and had agression from npcs within the last 15mins then he will stay there for a further 2mins.
-if when he loged he had no agression timer and he was not caught in roids then he died due to a server hitch
log out timer is
normaly (no agression timer) you are meant to stay inspace 1min, but its more like 30secs
if you have been agressed in the last 15mins by:
-npcs it is then 2mins, but sometimes apears to be longer, but I have not seen less
-players it is 15mins, and you can pretty much set your watch by it.
both the npc and player agression timer is set when the server logs the player off. So be warned that if you log off with 2secs left on the agression timer to another player you will remain inspace for 15mins.
red timer is global flagging to other players and sentrys, yellow is to specific entitys, either certain faction: Sentrys or npc, also to players. You can hover your mouse over to see specific time and to what your agression timer applies to. It also apears that the timer displayed in top left is the one which will run out soonest.

I'll post as an alt to protect the stupid.
Anyway, my main had a guy join our corp. An exsperenced player. He was coming back from a break (had been back a few months) and upon joining he had to move his stuff from his old home (in a 0.0 system) to my corps location. Well the guy loaded up his Frighter with about 4 billion isk worth of stuff (or so he claimed) and started heading to my corps system. He did this during peak gaming hours, and well, got attacked. First thing he did was log off, thinking hey i'll warp out and be fine. He obviously forgot to read some of the past patch notes, and well, you know what happened. He petitioned it thinking that it was the games faults. He lost all his billions, and later quit the corp cause he got podded while being in the corp, forgetting that it was his own damn fault.
Just felt like ranting.

well i think that the timer is a great thing too.
on a truthful note, i have only been in a few engagements with player foes......each and every time that i attempted to lock on my foe i would not only crash to desktop but my computer would restart. i didnt and still dont care if i lose my ship, asap i get back on (after restart, load up, connect, load eve, etc.). my response has usually been, "congratulations, i wish i could have seen the fight".
i just got back into playing after 4 months (i work in antarctica.......8-9 month contracts), and have not gotten into a pvp encounter as i am running missions, blah, blah, blah. maybe its fixed now as i really do want to foray into 0.0 and pvp; whenever i do go in now, i spend mucho time scanning gates and paying attention to system kills.
so does this happen to anyone else? i run on a satellite connection with about three seconds or more between clicking and activation of anything occurs. contrary to popular belief, antarctica does not have high speed connections so save that reply.

So lets get this straight.
Freightor user warps through gate. He sees a massive gatecamp. He decides to log while he is invisible due to warping in.
Unless the gatecamp can destroy the freightor in 120 seconds, or less assuming he is not scrambled and warps, he is as good as alive.
The Freightor use can send an alt to check if the system is clear, and if it is, log back in. --- Slot 10 Akemons Modified 'Noble'Zet 5000 implant +8% Armour FREE |

Regardless of wether he is scrambled or not, he will only stay in space for a maximum of 60secs but in reality the timer seems a bit fubared and only lasts 30secs.

You will be surprised how many people I've seen were counting too fast up to 15. Most of em died in the last minute of it
I was also very surprised by the fact that quite a few "known names" failed to take into account the timer/overestimating their safespot. Funniest one ever was a mega full of stabs (we didn't have the tackling power to keep him down, he had insta's too). Aggroe'd him to the gate, he warped to a planet, then another one and logs in the spot between them. The idiot was carrying more than 30 implants...
The thing of it: don't assumer that it takes more than 100 seconds befre someone can find you. If you're sitting in your spot waiting for the timer to expire, don't be in a hurry. You never know who's cloaked within 1au waiting for you to log
