some people's bios are full of win, and some have meaning to them, thaqt may not have any meaning to you.
I for one <3 my bio, and it has meaning within my corp. And a sudden plunge in the sullen swell. Ten fathoms deep on the road to hell. |

I think the characters BIOs is a nice little addition to EVE. Originally they were able to hold more text than today and you could make for an interesting read.
Today the amount of text we're allowed to put in there is way too low, double it atleast or get rid of the BIOs all together I say. And fix the BIO bugs both ingame and those related to EVE Gate please. F&ID: Skill Training, Agent Finder What is CCP Guard gonna do with that grenade? |

Bio as in Biological, usually used in sentences like "im going to take a bio break" this is when people proceed to defecate text into a box and share it with others. Refer to my bio for examples |

I started out with good bio, then went more and more silly. But still my bio are always true even if silly :)
I do wish more people would write legitimate ones though. Sadly Eve which could be used for so many more things is too often pictured as a big gank-fest. It doesn't have to be all punches, it can be hugs too? |

Do people carry their backstories on their person in real life too?
I like having the option of writing something in the Bio in any case. Lot of people have something written in their bios, so I guess bio is something people like to have. |

I liked it until EVEGate came along and with the shoddy ASS.NET programming it is, ate my entire BIO. Desipte petitions and bug reports, it's still not fixed and randomly it will decide to cut off the text you've inserted into it. Dare to edit your bio through EVE Gate and in-game.... expect an ASS.PLOSION.
At some point I just gave up on my original RP bio (which I enjoyed but quickly noticed not too many other RP bios) and since it was constantly being eaten by bad programming anyways just made it shorter and random. |

Bios are useful. They can tell you something about a person's personality within the game. For example: Bio is thoughtful, erudite, well written: this person probably has enough intelligence that should you find yourself needing to negotiate in a hostile situation, it may be worth trying. Bio is a list of favourite insults/snippets of chat log of people calling each other rude names: Probable griefer. Assume will be hostile. Shoot on sight. Bio is a dramatic paragraph of stuff like "I am the bringer of Death, the hood of darkness etc etc": this person is a PvPer who takes themselves far too seriously. Less likely to gank industrial ships than the Probable Griefer. May be open to negotiation. Bio is in Russian: player is Russian.

The biography field is a very useful surveillance tool. It allows us to make snap judgments about other capsuleers that could save our lives or ships.
Bio filled with:
Slurs against other pilots/ killmails: Probably a PVPer/griefer. Avoid.
Giant ASCII art of penii: Probably 12, mentally or physically. Avoid. Or torment with grammar.
Chat logs that are nonsensical to the casual observer: inside jokes, or things that were funny at the time. Meh.
Lists of damage types done by/done to enemy factions: Repetitious, but a player who understands the power inherent in that knowledge, and wishes to broadcast it to others. Possibly helpful.
Corporate slogans: drinks the Kool-Aid. Flies with the same group every day. Actually dislikes pilots of other corps. Possibly useful in a fight.
Short, well written story/journal/interview format with details from a first or third person perspective: Someone who actually enjoys some element of RP in their game. Probably helpful.
Long, painstakingly crafted story/journal/interview format that mentions multiple instances of game lore and/or other characters: Someone who is heavily into the RP elements of the game. Helpful, unless their RP is against your particular race/bloodline/nation.
Music lyrics: Depends on your taste in music.
Blank: Someone who just flies spaceships. Hard to tell. |

Even the face palm compilation video is not enough for the OP. CSM do you think? No matter the changes, high sec people chose the safests. Lots of stick and they will leave. Half the problem is the players in null sec; we do not want to be there with you. |

I agree with the OP. So far, I have yet to see a Bio that's actually been worth reading. Most people just copy-paste some random, insignificant chat-log that nobody else finds humorous, or insert a dozen links to all kinds of meaningless things, such as youtube-videos. If people are going to use their Bio, at least use it for something that means something. |

But as it has little bearing on any of the aforementioned categories, I'd say:
Graphic depictions of carnal acts: Mature RPer. Might cyber with you. Combat or game advice helpfulness: indeterminate. |
