How about this:
EVE hardcore mode: you die, your OS is overwritten with a program that displays a video of CCP Guard looking down on you, pointing, and laughing hysterically.

No, see, you guys have it all wrong.
Hardcore mode isn't so much about making the risk higher
Hardcore mode should make it more challenging. Put limitations on yourself by doing things like only using meta 0 fittings, and not being allowed to train anything to 5 (thus cutting out all T2 ships)
It's cheaper AND harder to work with.
OOoo, another idea. You're not allowed to use rigs, at all.

That is less Hardcore mode and more "Pre-Expansion" mode. Being a capsuleer with the ability to be killed without penalty is... in essence, easy mode. Making death have meaning in this game with random skill loss would actually make it not only have more meaning but also create some form of hardship.
Perhaps creating a system where you cannot be cloned without skill loss unless you have sizable standing? It involves some NPC work so I'm sure some pvpers will cry, but tears are made to be collected. |

Bah, hardcore mode is relying on RMT to pay your rent.
On a side note, is playing against CCP's devs and fraud team considered to be PvP or PvE?

Eve was originally intended to be more like that and it was one of the bigger issues/concerns I had with World of Darkness - 99% of players just don't want to play that seriously and for those that find that style of gameplay rewarding - they make up a tiny fraction of potential players. |

This is unfortunately why we rarely see decent games and why of those decent games that do get released, the difficulty is slowly eroded until its no longer decent. EvE as an example.
Games are made for average people and average people like things to be easy. |

Why not limit the accelerated hardmode characters to only pvp and combat skills much like how trial accounts are limited in what they can train.
Then just give everyone a fourth character slot.

While I like the thought of a massive influx of characters (in my mind combat limited characters) I feel like going f2p may not be the best idea. Tons of players would multibox tons of characters and just close the window and start another f2p account every time they died.
Maybe put a cooldown timer on how long it takes for each account to get their next accelerated clone/character. CCP could then sell the ability to deacrease this time. |

Just play Dead is Dead. That might be enough of a limitation right there to make it hardcore. You can still do everything you already do like fitting out your ships properly, etc. But there would be no sense in upgrading your clone, of course.

We must restart the game at some time, it has been running since 2003 and it's not fair for actual new players. The problem with Eve is that there are way too many alts and to few new players that actually think about getting into Eve. I mean , seriously now , if you want to know how many actual real persons play the game at a time , all you need to do is just divide Current Online Players by 50 or even more. Starting all over from 0 SP i think it will bring great benefits to the game. |

Yeah... great benefits. What we have now is fair to new players. It's not the old player's fault they've been playing longer. It would not be fair to established players to take away their skillpoints. The vast majority of them would get fed up and leave.
Your idea is stupid.
Also, very, very few people have anywhere near 50 alts. Most people have at most 3 or 4, and there are many players who have only one account. Latest video - Pandemic Legion titan and supers killed |

You fail to see the benefits here... What if you have invested your skill points badly ? Why should one quit in disgust, when he has a chance to start all over again ? That without having to create multiple alts and accounts .

You know for new players they COULD add new systems just for them every year that eventually link up to the rest of the New Eden. Could be fun.

Sure the idea has merit...right after CCP fixes that big stack of bugs that makes getting podded more likely.
Can we start with the 1-3 seconds that explosion locks out all screen based UI control?
Where attackers have legal keys or options to lock and shoot pods during that time -- I have always thought that binding warp to locations to keys constituted an illegal macro. Meaning podding is pretty automatic if they got fast lock and warp disrupt.
But I assume the lure of HARDCORE is x10 training speed.

Are your nuts!
This is the worst idea in the world! With training to take years to get in to some of the ships you would limit the person to frigates maybe destroyers. You could not accelerate training or isk payout enough to do that.
You would be eliminating one of the greatest separator between this game and WOW. You need to invest time in your character. Plus it is what keeps people coming back year after year.
I hope this idea die's a horrible death and CCP Fozzy gets slapped on the head for it.

How about making it opt in? Maybe having the switch being choosing to kill a pod? Your choice, either don't pod people or risk your skill points. Maybe also affecting every character on the account? So no gank alts unless you want to risk your main. |
