This is probably the case for most frig/cruiser VS BS scenarios anyway, but it's just more apparent because cruisers and frigs are closer-ranged ships and the Domi works best at close range as well. It's going to take a large number of cruisers or frigates to take a Dominix out and that's how it should be. My ship cost me around 60 million to build. Should 15 or 20 million ISK worth of cruisers be able to drop me? I think not.
That said, play to your strengths. If you want to take out drone ships either do it at range or do it with help. The tank on a Dominix is good, but it's not as good as an Apoc. I don't hear people complaining about those. Anyway... a Domi pilot that depends on his or her NOS to run their tank effectively is going to find themselves in trouble. If you stay outside NOS range then you've won, because the Domininx suffers from a low cap for a ship of it's size and if the pilot has an AB, web, and scram in the mids they're going to have a hard time running even a large armor rep and five hardeners non-stop.
qft..
I'll also add some things that drone users deal with on a day to day basis.
Drones that don't respond
Drones that switch targets on their own
Medium and Heavy drones take a lot of time to get out to distant engagements
For ships with drones as the primary weapon loosing them usually means a quick death
Theres a bunch more but I'm tired and I bet other drone users will fill you in.
Being a drone user isn't all cake and icing. ;) - Evil
Indeed, those little buggers have a mind of their own. Couple that with the fact that a drone user has to put in a lotof skill training time and practice (learning to use the right combination/types of drones against the type of target you're fighting)takes quite some time to be effective. And, drones can be shot down, try that on a railgun. I don't think this is a case of being pwned by an unbalanced game mechanic, you're simply falling to a highly trained/skilled pilot who has specialized in a cetain area. Not to mention that Inties are paper thin and if you start getting hit, you're in big trouble anyways. There are plenty of pilots/setups out there that are excellent anti-drone platforms. Trust me It's all about what you're prepared to fight. If you are in an Inty and you try to solo a well fitted drone AF or cruiser, your going to die. Sometimes you fight, sometimes you run. There's no shame in having the good judgement to know when you can't win.
