so err little question about that apporach to the typhoon, i'm assuming that lows and mids would go something like this :
MIDS : quad lif booster, sensor booster, -2 scram, web/tracking disruptor/target painter LOWS : 1 Large rep II, 2x nanoadaptive II, 1x fitting mod/ explosive hardener II, 3x local hull nanofiber.
but what about the highs ? obviously four of the best named NOS you can find. or maybe three and a large smarty. but the other four ? do people fit siege cruise, or projectile weapons ? do the dual 425 mm's hit at such orbit speeds at say 15/18 km ? I(m asking because i have ****ty missile skills, so i'm not sure really how to go about this.

i've never seen it work. at first when the "tackler phoon" joins the gang, people ooohhhh and aahhhhhhh bout how fast it goes, but in the end it's thin tank ends up in a bright lil explosion and waste of 90 to 100 mil of isks.

i've seen it work very effectively in small squad situations. when you're flying it just pretend you're in an auto-rupture that gets hit by BS guns.

Edited by: Deb Dukar on 11/03/2006 01:57:51 i tried that once but gave up pretty fast after i nearly lost my phoon twice.
mid: 1x AB 1x Target Painter/tracking enhancer 2x webber
lows: 1x large rep. 2x 1600mm 3x hardeners 1x whatever module
are by far better then any speed setup could ever be. i got 13k armor (could be more, i know) and can tank quite much with that. drones(5 heavy and 2 webber), missiles and 800mm AC doing the rest for me
if u want something fast, get a stabber ^^ ------------------------- got a problem with my typos? then go to ur mom and start crying :P |

Okay, I'll answer my own question. Last night I put 5 T1 Nanos on her and a MWD, Max speed was ~2000 m/s. Could bumb that up by quite a bit with better nav skills, better nanos. Lots of potential.

Hi, I know it's an old thread but instead of strating a new one...
After seaing the nanophoon in action and trying to fit one i seem to lack a bit of grid (i have eng lvl5 and awu lvl4). I cat fit this this guy's setup. I think he is using a large cap bootser (u can see 4 charges in it [could he be using a med one with 200 charges???]).
Now he uses a pg mod, are there rcus that give more then 10% pg? (am at work)... that will solve my probl...

4x nos 4x torp
mwd cap injector 20km scram painter/tracking disruptor
rcu bcu 5x nano
Tech2/officer/faction where possible, priority is mwd, nanos, and possibly the rcu if you have fitting problems.

Forget Nano-Phoon, the phoon is definetly a tanking goddes. I mean okay okay you can come in range quickly with that nanos, but a BS for tackling?! uuuhhm bit expensive?! Buy a Rifter and tackle with it.
I was doing PvP in my phoon too [getting npc'ers] An it sucked that this thing was tooooo o o.... slow to come in range for anything [ Scram, Web ] Well then i tried the nano fitting, yeh got destroyed by a dominix.
MMkayn, now my m8 was with me in crow, he warped in scrambled i warped in done dmg and tank.
My fitting was following:
4x Cruise Missle Launchers [ Arby ] 4x Dual 650mm II Auto's 1x Patterned Statis Web, 2x ECM - Multispectral Jammer II, 1x Heavy Cap Injector 2x LAR II, EXP,KIN,THER actives all tech II, 1600mm Plate and Ballistic Control Unit II
5 Ogre's I 5 Hammerhead's II
the amazing thing on the phoon is that you can totally choose your damage. I was having following in my weapons:
Cruise: 2x Paradise Cruise Missles I 2x Wrath Cruise Missles I
Dual 650: 2x Phased Plasma, 2x Barrage/Hail*
*only in orbit and when succesfully jammed.
We've done great with that uberpwnmobile.

zwerg nano phoon isn't so much for tackling as it is there for stupid high speeds so you can outrun most missle damage and guns can't track you, while your torps and drones are working away at the enemy.

have you heard something about a blue module which is called webifier.
have you heard sthg about those guys who never fly alone and got more of those blue modules.
Outrun missle dmg, okay, gunboat = webifier + mwd?! and when we say the truth its almost impossible to moneuver the phoon outta web range all the time and when youre keeping range his guns will track you. so?!

well i would probably say that the typical nanophoon will be orbiting around 18km's so it would be hard to get him webbed down. Inties can be nosed to nothing in a quick hurry and so their webs will break. And no bship will be tracking you if you're transversal is much more than 500m/s.
Now if you want to be really nasty you could put a domi disruptor on and true sansha heavey nos and then orbit out at around 28km and really rarely run into problems

Well okay now we are at a point where its only about experiences. Its like the discussion:
Can any other AF beat a right fitted jagabond?!
The answer is just: It depends on many things:
whats the warp in point of your nano phoon: 2km
Nano-Phoon = Dead
how many support your enemies have
and of course can even fly a phoo`n?

well i definately agree if the phoon gets webbed down it's pretty much ****** if it's running the nano setup. But come one the forums are all theory craft based on optimal situations for your ship

Nanophoon is not a tackler, it's a 1vs1 ship mainly. the purpose of the nanos is not to get in range, but to stay OUT of range, and move fast enough for turrets to not track and missiles to do little damage. Also, it breaks tanks rather easily, and is pretty much untouchable when flown right.
Originally by: zwerg Well then i tried the nano fitting, yeh got destroyed by a dominix.
I'll assume he was pvp fitted with loads of nos and heavy tank. If he had guns mainly, you only lost because you messed up. So, assuming pvp setup, did you use your drones to kill his? That's his only firepower, take it out and you can take your time killing him. Your booster and 4x nos goes a long way to counter his nossing, and you have 4 torp launchers and a bunch of drones for dps. Unless you actually let him kill your drones and fail to kill his, you should be good, though it might take some time.
Hell, even if you're losing, you're loads faster than him, just mwd out and warp.

You will never be in range of your target's webber unless you mess up. Several enemies with webbers can be a problem, which is why you use tech2 drones to pop any frigs that come near you, and deal with faster ships like cruisers and mwd battleships before taking on the slow ones. This is actually one of the main challenges of flying the nanophoon.. Every ship has to have a weakness, right?
Originally by: zwerg Outrun missle dmg, okay, gunboat = webifier + mwd?! and when we say the truth its almost impossible to moneuver the phoon outta web range all the time and when youre keeping range his guns will track you. so?!
Huh, you seriously think another mwd fitted battleship will catch you in web unless you mess up? Nanophoon goes 3.2km/s straight line speed in the very worst case scenario, and fights best at between 18 and 28km depending on how much faction fitting you have. How is a mega going to catch up while flying 1.7km/s and being quad nossed?

Phoon has 4 mids, not 5. Also the armor rep goes against the concept, as well as break the grid of the ship, pretty sure the setup is impossible, seeing as you need an rcu to fit it all even without rep.

How fast does a nanophoon get to it's preferred range when flying 3.2km/s+: Very very fast.
Nanophoon = very much alive, with the possible exception of warping in on an instalock, double web, scram tackler. How often does this happen anyways?
Originally by: zwerg how many support your enemies have
Sure, it can't handle several enemies at the same time, if they are set up decently to counter it. I think you will find this is true for many, many ships and setups.
Originally by: zwerg and of course can even fly a phoo`n?
What the hell? At first when I read this I was worried that replying would get me a warning for personal attacks, but I decided to laugh at it instead of trying to tell you what I think of you for making such a comment.
It's really simple: If someone is sitting in their hangar trying to fit their phoon, it's a pretty damn logical assumption that they can fly it.
Maybe you used this argument because you can't fly it? The encounter with the dominix you mentioned earlier suggests this is true.
Originally by: Itaro Flagg Heh. Having trouble killing a nanophoon?

Yeah, phoon pilot will have to be on his toes and blow them up with his own drones quicklike. Webber drones aren't all that durable though, pretty sure you could take em out before the enemy could do too much damage to you.
That is, if the webber drones can even catch up to you in the first place.
Alright, I'm done venting. Sorry if anyone feels the tone was a bit harsh

You need to check your sarcasm detector, it seems borked
And zwerg, where did I call you a noob? My point was simply that you seem to use the nanophoon wrong, and hence, you're better off not using the setup. Incidentally, this also means you have very little say in a thread about nanophoon setups.
I'm sure you are a very capable phoon pilot with other setups, and you'll do fine sticking to them. But some people do well with nanophoons (see Kaar's movie, link posted above), and trying to pull your dislike of it, based on a single encounter with a domi, down on the heads of players curious to see if it will work for them, is just plain wrong.
If you had simply posted "I had bad experiences with the nanophoon, you might want to be careful when you take it out to see if the setup works for you or not", I would have respected your post a lot more.
If it worked as badly as you try to make people belive, we probably would not have video evidence of Kaar killing a railthron, a prophecy, a torp raven, a domi, a blasterthron and a brutix (not counting the afk ferox, the scorp divebombing, and forcing the maller to warp before killing the brutix) without ever dropping below 40% shields.
Oh, and bypassing the bad word filter is bad, mkay?

It's also not that cheap, at 80m for the hull, ~25m in nanos and 20m in an MWD. Sure, way cheaper than a Vagabond after insurance but alot trickier to fly (no room for stabs, no innate cruiser bonuses).
As for a Typhoon not making a good tackler - the highest scanresolution of any BS would say otherwise. It'll get 2 points on most cruisers, or 1 point with a sensorbooster on even fast cruisers.
It also competes with the bumpageddon for biggest speed/mass impact. That's like free -9 if you're not afraid of getting webbed.

the amazing thing on the phoon is that you can totally choose your damage.
Completely off topic.

No, the question was about the setup used in this video. I already posted it, see above.

have you heard something about a blue module which is called webifier.
have you heard sthg about those guys who never fly alone and got more of those blue modules.
Originally by: Rehmes My idea is this:
x4 nos x4 siege x1 mwd x2 web x1 tp x1 injector or scram (use mwd sparingly the nos will take care of u) x1 L rep x1 DCU x5 nano
Should b ok....
Phoon has 4 mids, not 5. Also the armor rep goes against the concept, as well as break the grid of the ship, pretty sure the setup is impossible, seeing as you need an rcu to fit it all even without rep.

mid: 1x AB 1x Target Painter/tracking enhancer 2x webber
lows: 1x large rep. 2x 1600mm 3x hardeners 1x whatever module
are by far better then any speed setup could ever be. i got 13k armor (could be more, i know) and can tank quite much with that. drones(5 heavy and 2 webber), missiles and 800mm AC doing the rest for me
if u want something fast, get a stabber ^^
You've completely lost the point of the fit. Go home.
4x Torp 4x NOS 1x T2 MWD, Scram, Booster + Cap Recharge Fitting mods + Nanofibers (Inertia Stabs when they get changed)
Cant hit it with turrets, going too fast for the explosion radius to catch up from cruises or torps. ---------------------------------------- Friends Forever

nanophoon is a lot of fun :)
tried it a bit ago and is a nice ship, the opponent have to face many troubles when facing it...
speaking about 1 vs 1 the real problem of the ship is ecm (as usual) + nos, if you get ecm and nosed you are in big troubles :( (even if generally due to speed you can still run away when you meet an ecm heavy boat :) )
i also had some troubles with some ravens, but again the philosophy is the same for the vaga... if you can't beat... run :P

Watch the video. Link's been posted a few times by now. 5 nanofibers and an mwd is a good start.
Anyone do math to find out how fast it'd go with all relevant skills maxed, hg snake, speed hardwires and best possible nanos/mwd? That'd be something to smile about, especially keeping in mind that we're basically talking about a tipped-over trashcan
Oh, almost forgot, how about grouped with minnie fleet command ship with all relevant skills maxed + mindlink?

Anyone tried the nanophoon-type setup with an AB? With good nav skills and a good AB, the speed might(?) still be enough to mess up turrets and reduce damage from cruise/torp. The thing with the AB is that you can run it nonstop and it keeps your sig rad down -- usually not an issue with battleships, but the Phoon has a very small sig for a bs, why not get some good use out of that?

No. Bad idea. Missiles will chew you up, and mwd fitted close combat ships will catch you.
Mwd runs practically forever anyways with 4 nos and an injector going.
