Bah, my ancestors weren't french at all, we paid those froggies a hansom sum of money to hitch a ride on their colonizationship.
MY ancestors were from this small country called the Netherlands, and after it got flooded by rising sealevels we had no alternative but to pack up and leave that crappy planet called Earth.

Eve is set thousands of years in the future.
Now, it's a fact that that languages evolve over time - for example the English we speak today is very different to the English that was used five hundred years ago.
So whilst the Gallente language may have some elements of French in it, it would not be recognisable to a modern French speaker.

Well, the whole gallente being french is just a developer ez mode.
"Hmm ok we have this very liberal people that likes to tell other people how good their government are.. What does that remind me of.. oh yes.. the french revolution.. then mabye, just mabye the Gallenete can be like.. french originated or some **** like that.. yeas.. this could work..."

The Gallente are based on a mixture of the French and Americans actually.
Amarr are based on the ancient Egyptians, Caldari on what the Japanese megacorporations would be like in 'this' future, and the Minmatar are based on the African tribes of old.
The name 'Minmatar' is a mangled version of an Icelandic word, relating to their status and struggle in the backstory.

In my opinion Amarr are Catholics its even said in the OLD eve backstory that the collony ship that colonized amarr prime was made up of fanatical catholics that wanted a utopian catholic paradise.
