Edited by: Jia Yan on 12/03/2006 22:44:57 The starlight flashed off polished hulls as 9 frigates dropped out of warp by the stargate. The pilots were those of the Sanguine Legion, none more than a week old, but driven by the blood lust of the Raiders. 9 times the stargate flashed as all 9 ships were catapulted across space into the system of Amamake, where they sat cloaked and waiting.
Azuriel's voice came over the intercom - "Tempest battleship! It's warped to that asteroid belt". The gang leader instantly acted, hurling the ships into warp after the unwary behemoth.
Dropping back into real space, the Legion found themselves mere kilometres from the gargantuan hull of the Tempest. Instantly they sprang into action, targeters screaming, and lasers flashing into action. A vicious swarm of fire descended upon the hapless battleship, its shields flickering as they strained to repel the focused energy of the tiny ships. Missiles sped out of its hull, careening towards the tiny frigates, but being quick and agile they avoided the worst of the damage. ItÆs mammoth turrets swivelled impotently as they tried to track the nimble attackers.
Suddenly, targeting alarms aboard the Legions ships blared. 2 more ships have jumped in, and these ones are surrounded by a flashing red border: -10 pirates. This is bad news. ôConcentrate fire on the battleship, itÆs failing!ö Azuriel urged. And it was, armour crumbling, then the fragile structure exposed and taking fire.
Meanwhile, the newcomers had locked on to the swarm of frigates. As the Tempest finally exploded in a colossal fireball, drones shot out of the hostile Vexor, and itÆs companion the Punisher sped in to help. Systems on board Jia YanÆs ship flickered as the shields dropped in mere seconds, 5 heavily modified and angry drones shredding them like paper. The Armour tank kicked in, holding steady, but power levels dropped rapidly as the repairers tried to keep up with the damage. The Vexor greedily sucked the energy out of her and 3 other Legion frigates. ôIÆm going down!ö screamed Jia, as the structure of her Punisher failed, and her pod was hurled into space.
As this was happening, the Legions fire was being concentrated on the enemy frigate. With countless energy vampires draining it, it dropped swiftly, and fire was turned to the Vexor, now low on shield thanks to Jia YanÆs final burst of laser light. The VexorÆs repairers screamed as they tried to cope with the damage, and its drones tore through a second Legion frigate, despite their mothership now being electronically blinded by the Legions one and only jammer. Moments later, its bulkheads finally gave way, and it blew up spewing components across the belt.
A depleted Legion force picked the hulks clean and moved on, the 2 downed pilots seeking new craft. The Sanguine Legion name grows that little bit more fearedà.

Very nice way to put into words your exploits and day to day gaming. I also really commend your efforts to use frigs in large (more than 2-3) groups for assault.
While doing my Trial Rupture experiment, I had 4 noob frigates engage my noob Rupture. I killed all 4 in quick succession, but I wonder what would have happened if there had been five or six or seven.
Small craft tactics have always interested me and you're showing that the idea has great merit. Keep it up!
Could you share your ideas about ships and their loadouts and your general approach to targets?

Our tactics are so secret, even the pilots executing them dont know exactly how they work .
Offcourse we experiment with setups and tactics, but I doubt that it's set-ups or tactics that has made us succesfull killers so far.
What we do have, is this: all members are eager to fight anything and anyone, in any situation, all are willing to risk their ship+pod in a fight, all obey commands once it's given, no matter how suicidal it may seem (like this encounter looked when we had 2 -10 Sec Status 'colleagues' jumping in between us and out prey).
Set-ups, shiny ships, modules, tactics, experience, etc. that can and will all grow over time. Attitude is something people have or have not. Sanguine has that attitude.

That's a statement of inexperience. NOCTS and Sanguine have both continually engaged situations where the numbers are against us, sometimes heavily. Numbers are a useful factor, I won't deny it, but the loadout of the ships, the leadership calling the shots, the experience of the pilots, and the trickery avalaible by understanding the system you are in is much more important.
Sanguine isn't able to destroy their targets just because of swarmming, but also because of the leadership behind the wheel. Their tactics are tight, fast, and effective. A simple way to counter them specifically is a nice duraprophecy with multiple nos and frigate-class weaponry (mine can tank sentry guns for 4 minutes )or a battleship with nos/smartbombs. Numbers are effective, but don't slap that half-assed jab of "well, omfg only cuz of numb3rz.". It shows a certain lack of PvP experience for fleet operations. --------------

yeah isnt that the truth, Ander was extremely unlucky to not wipe out our entire friggy squad with a smartbomb BS earlier, probably deserved to as well given we really should have smelt a trap on that occasion, but jumped in anyway. ---------

Thus far, our innovative tactics have, among other things, included target scrambling gangmates, and deliberately misunderstanding the concept of transversals.
Some would say this are near exploit tactics, but they seem to work for us, and we will keep doing them.

Experience is everything in my eyes. A 10 BS fleet with an inexperienced leader, inadequate training of pilots, and crappy setups can easily perish against a fleet only half that size with some trained pvpers. I used to think "my arse" when I had just begun pvping, but once it happens to you, you'll be a believer.

The Sanguine Legion has apparently gotten a few people upset :) When I arived ingame I heard about an ugly situation where we had been mauled by a antifrig smartbomb boat. No problem, how likely is that to happen again, I think to myself.
Well, about an hour or so after logging in, we find out how likely it actually was. I'm not sure if they were cloaked sitting at the 15km warp in to the asteroid field or not, but it was either that or a really amazing bit of timing luck, because we warped in, and look! a battleship at 2.6 KM!
Yarrr! Charge! *smartbomb* *smartbomb* *smartbomb* lol you get the picture. Out of the whole pack, I believe only two pods made it out, lol.
Kudos, Digiblast, you got us good!
As was mentioned, however, the tactics of the Legion are near to an evolution anyway. MWD skill is not far away. Just think of it! We are
Another side benefit to us becoming MWD capable will be that some of you unfortunate enough to have never seen us, will get the opportunity to say hello and pay a ransom! |

Well, the good news here is that with the ammount of battle we see, experience will come over time, and as we set up (some form of) industrial/support wing, the set-ups will improve over time as well.
So far, I think we have proven that attitude is at least - if not more - important then experience. Unlike Skillpoints, better ships and set-ups and experience, attitude is something you either have or have not.

We have grown from nothing to 40 members in roughly a week and been in action from about day 1. At the same time we're flying several combat ops daily, try to figure out the game (we have some more experienced members and advisors now thank god) we attempt to build a solid organisation.
I've heard of incidents with regards to smacktalking in Local. I want to ask our members to refrain from this and look the thread up our own Forum.

It seems we have tons of enemies.. but that doesn't matter anymore.. cause we are well known now.. which is what we wanted. I'm actually glad we have soo many enemies.. also that we can bring lots of friends with us too... We have been growing a lot the past week and actually have to stop recruiting because we have soo many members atm but that all doesn't matter anymore because sooner or later we will be a prime target :)
Glad to see members of Sanguine Legion growing and the first KHANID only corp is actually going successful even tho we lose tons of frigates.. but hey, we've killed battleships and cruisers of all sorts... hmm that seems better :)

Heh Mistress Sung, I made up for you shooting me by locking dampening, jamming, and ECM locking a gangmate later that same day :P
We are convincing folks to start taking gang members off overview though, and friendly fire is becoming less common.
You added a little bit of excitement to my day though, I thought the target had me locked up even through damp and ECM were showing active and I was thinking to myself, when my cap is gone, I'm toast |

And the killing goes on. Yesterday, a corpmate almost blew me to smithereens when I warped to our safespot flashing red.
Yeah, we are a trigger happy bunch. And we are having the time of our life.

I saw the legion in Mannar when I was hauling out some ice, and started to worry. Unfortunately by the time I went back with my Incursus they had upped and left.
I'll have to remember to keep an Incursus or few fitted for combat in the corp hangar. A devil I may be, but I am trying to help you. You just don't realise it yet. |

Good work people. Suicide pirate tactics ftw \0/.
I am puzzled why you ran from us two days ago though. You outnumbered us 12 to three...we were all up for a fight at a planet (YARRRR )...and you ran (arrr ). We didnt even have smart bombs fitted.
Ah well, maybie next time ________________ What you do is you store up the rage, let it fester while you gain strength, then use it to gank those weaker than you... and so the circle of life is complete |

Could have been that we ran, could also be that all potential customers ran away initially and we got bored. We have the attention span of a 4 year old with ADHD ya know.

I was with this one. We went there, saw local filling up, so we hoped for a nice battle. After we didnt find anyone in space besides a group hiding at a POS for about 30 minutes, we got bored and left.

Heh, no. The way it went down was we saw one of your pilots at a planet on scanners so we warped in to engage and (hopefully) provoke an attack.
Said pilot ran, but we were soon presented by the rest of your force, consisting of a blackbird and a swarm of frigates. We seperated slightly and launched drones...but then your fleet disengaged. We were still about 25km from you so there was no scrambling love . The only shots fired were by my drones nocking one of your friggs into half armour.
Im assuming you found better prey one jump over in mannar because you all promptly left the system (with a parting shot about 'you damn french' or something )
Still love what your doing though . You need to move further into the Bleaklands, give those damn NW anti pirates a scare ________________ What you do is you store up the rage, let it fester while you gain strength, then use it to gank those weaker than you... and so the circle of life is complete |

You guys have been providing excellent training courses for our members, so kudos to you and your crew as well .
It's refreshing to end a fight (wether winning or loosing) with you guys hearing something like 'good fight guys' instead of the usual 'now my corp/other character/alliance/grandmother is gonna war dec and kill you dead you @$%#^!#!$^&*!!' .

Frigates serve our purpose well so far, cheap and easily expendable Though after we tried to engage a battleship group last night the idea of larger ships did enter the group's mind...

I can speak only for my self ... no, I am a frig pilot at heart. But many of our members I am sure have an interest in bigger ships. I am sure in the coming weeks our fleet will evolve into something more well rounded so we can continue to have fun with our fights.

Tonight a brave group of 8 legionaires took on a sporty Red Alert pilot and his Scorpion. After a long and furious fight, we had to accept that the fight was hopeless, we disengaged with one loss. His tank held rock solid, and although we had peeled away his pesky little drones and his torpedoes did not really do much damage, the same was to say for us. 8 noob characters in t1 frigs simply couldn't deal enough damage.
We thank the involved pilots for a good fight, and a lot of fun.

It is very possible, if so thank you. We try to replace evey one killed with 3 new frigates, and 3 new pilots.

Thanks to the RedAlert pirate for the Scorp engagement - we were all bored out of our skulls anyway lol. We did lose 2 frigates however, not 1 - and we had 6 total with us at the start of the fight, not 8 :). The fight was such a stalemate that we started running out of ammo, I had to grab ammo from my fallen corpmates can lol! Looking forward to more engagements in the near future, with everyone! Yarr

so I'm ratting in 0.3 and a Sanguine Legion fighter warps into my field, i warp out and warp back in to get the jump. Sadly their numbers had quadroopled by the time i got back. Very nice frig fleet indeed, as much as i hate dying as a n00b. It was quite an impressive defeat good game, hope to see you again when i get my skills up!
