I'm currently trying to do my first level 4 mission, Silence the informant.
I'm flying an Apoc with the following setup:
Hi: 7 mega pulse lasers (named) , 1 arby assault
Med: Ab, Cap injector w/800's, 2 fb10 cap rechargers
Low: 2 therm active hardeners, 1 kin active hardener, 2 large acco reps, 2cpr
I was able to beat the first spawn (1 bs, bunch of frigs) but as soon as I attack either of the sentry drones that are hammering at me, everything in mission aggros me (a 15 or so frig group and 3 bs group) which i would not be able to tank... so, I decided to go for the 3 bs group, with the guns still hitting me. Well... it turns out, that unless i have a full bay of 800's, i don't think i can tank 3 bs, even with 80%+ therm and 60%+ kin resistance.
I need med drones for the frigs (so no heavies) and using the ab to get in range kills more of my precious cap. The 2 acco reps can't keep up when it gets down to it either. So does anyone have any advice? Just fill my bay with booster charges and hope I can kill one bs, rinse, repeat? Or am I just not doing enough damage? Any advice would be helpful.

There are several ways to do this, first i always make sure i stay at at least 50km from the 3 bs, and focus on the small drones group first. Once they are gone im gonna deal with the 3 bs. When using pulses u must be able to tank them cos u need to be pretty close. If u cant, i recommend changing to beams and snipe them from about 50km. u will probably need to change back to pulses for second area since there will be alot close range ships. also use drones on the BS if u cant break their tank. all small things help. Thing to remember is they start hitting at about 50km, the closer u get the harder they hit.

Do not shoot those sentry guns until you have taken down the three distant drone controllers by the acceleration gate.
General rule is tank and ignore sentries in L4's until you know you can handle the remaining spawn(s).
Firing on sentries, or certain structures aggro's everybody.

Thanks for the advice. I'm slowly but surely whittling them down to managable numbers.. And you were right.. it's much easier to take the small drones out first.

one of the harder lvl4 missions, if u can do this u wont have many problems with the other missions.

I agree. I have to warp out on the second stage of this mission every time I do it. I think its meant to give problems to HACS. BS's that fire heavy missiles? C'mon.

High :
6 megabeam II's 1 large darkblood emp smartbomb +1 dual light beam II
Med : 1 tracking computer II, 3x cap recharger II
Low : 1 large T2 armour repairer, darkblood hardners, heatsinks II's.
Medium drones.
I use multi and microwave crystals.
With this setup I usually agro regardless of what range the enemy is. I cannot snipe from a distance but then again I find that incredible boring since it will lead to the loot containers being far apart. The tactic is that I warp in, allign then stop my ship. Then I sit still destroying all thats around me. Makes it a joy to scoop up cans.
