I've been thinking about picking one of these up and I've been told it will be a joyous day when I'm returned to my Amarrian masters. So I figure if I'm going to be working for them, might as well have a ship to fuel my drone obsession.
Anyway. Anyone have any ideas on a setup and drone combo for one of these things? I currently can use only scount drones, but wil be training for Heavy Combat ones. So drone combos for both would be great.
Thanks in Advance. A once retired pilot, now, once again helping those that fight the good fight. |

Hmm, 50 some views and not a reply yet? Anyone have perhaps any ideas on how I could equip it? Or perhaps no one knows the stats. 4:3:5 2 turret - 1 missle, 1500 drone space, 300 something cargo,155 base speed. I'm open to all ideas. What about the mediums and lows? And can't forget that missle slot. Maybe an M-12 or another launcher with Defender Missles? Or are even Defender missles useless? Any suggestions on crystals to use in those beams? A once retired pilot, now, once again helping those that fight the good fight. |

Edited by: TekRa on 08/09/2003 23:13:18 just whack a few guns on there that you'r trained up in, add a few drones, I find hammerheads to be the best scouts, get some damage mods in the low slots, magnetic vortecies, heat sinks, gyroscopes, whater suits your setup, stick some tracking computers in the mid slots if you can, or some ABs/shield booster/tactical shields.
oh, and for the extra hi-slot(s) maybe a smart bomb, or energy neutraliser, although a launcher would also be good with the new patch.

Edited by: TekRa on 08/09/2003 23:20:14 Edited by: TekRa on 08/09/2003 23:18:41 I use M projectiles on my rupture and find they are better than most people make out, currently I just have 4 650mm artilary fitted, i generally switch between a few ammo types, and more often than not have 2 guns with different loads.
Nuclear is good for those longer range encounters, but won't pack the pucnh that EMP or Titanium sabot will do up close, but for up close you will need tracking computers as the tracking speed is quite low. If you want to try fighting closer then maybe the 430mm duel autocannon (i think thats the right name)... they rattle thru ammo like mad, but once in optimal (which is quite low) you'll really be dealing out the damage with EMP/titanium in all 4(i hear phased plasma is good, but i only used that in S proj).
edit: and as for drones, infiltrator don't seem as capable as the hammerheads, but if you have a good drone skill it may be worth chucking in 1 or 2 for the added EMP dmg.

So for a possible load out I could go:
Hislots- 2x 650mm (Ammo varying) 1x M-12 or H-50 (only launchers I remember atm)
Medium slots- 1x Cold Arc Jet AB 1x Shield Booster 1x ??
Low slots- 3x Projectile Damage mod 1x,1x ?? or 2x ??
In the drone bay- Few Hammerheads and a few Inflitrators.
Just my thoughts. Tho I've never really heard about Tactical shields. A once retired pilot, now, once again helping those that fight the good fight. |

4:3:5 2 turret - 1 missle yeah, that sounds good, most ship loadouts, imo, are trial and error, and you have to try to match the equipment to the pilot/play style. I'll make a quick note of what equipment i'd consider fitting, this by no means a definitative list ... (bold items are definates, rest you could choose between)
Hi slots: 2x650mm Artillary 1xH-50 1xMedium/small Smart bomb (or another launcher)
Med slots: 1xMedium shield booster or emergency shield booster(same thing but better returns) 1xtracking computer (requires gunnery V and trajectory analysis) 1x(or more)Tactical shield (adds 70% resistance to specific resistances) 1xAfterburner, (if you feel you need it)
lo slots: This depends on your power/cpu requirments obviously, fit CPU boosters / Power diagnostics as needed, then in whatever is left:
gyrostabiliser, Lateral Gyroscopes, stabilised weapon mounts, any projectile weapon mod.. and if you want/can fit a Tracking enhancer to increase range and tracking speed.

Thanks for all the help.
As for the hislots, it can only fit one launcher. The smartbomb won't do much god with the drones. I'll have to look into the tactical shields. And I'll need the AB since its base speeds only 155m/s. Tho what exactly deos the tracking computer do? Enhance my tracking ability? A once retired pilot, now, once again helping those that fight the good fight. |

I have to be frank that I'm not sure about the fitting 650s on the Arb would be a good idea.
Don't get me wrong since I do have a Rupture with four 650s. But the Rupture has rate of fire bonuses that the Arbitrator does not have. Projectile users are also trained in Rapid Fire skill to raise ROF, and I doubt that this particular Arb user might have trained for it, since he is training for drone skills instead.
My suggestion instead is to use Heavy Beams or Heavy Pulses. I prefer Heavy Pulses because of their faster rate of fire, better tracking speed, and being more energy efficient, despite the power and range of the Beams. Fit the Pulses or Beams with Radio Ms for long range shooting, and keep 2 Multi Ms in the cargo hold for close range work. If the target gets close, switch to the Multi Ms (by reloading the crystals) for maximum damage.
I do advise using a tactical shield EM hardener among the midslots. My recommendation is a Photon Scattering field or Annointed EM ward, which can easily be bought or obtained from pirate loot. Amarr shields are relatively weak, and meeting an NPC that shoots EM missiles or beams will devastate your shields quickly, as EM eats shields very fast.
On the bottom slots, I recommend two heat sinks and three cap relays or fluxes to increase cap recharge rate. If the Arb user is in the Amarr area, it would be relatively easy to get good quality pirate or named mod heat sinks. The skida sinks with the 9% bonus on damage and rate of fire would be the best of all.
On the drones, a mix of infiltrators and hammerheads. Hobs, warriors and hornets are good too. Acolytes aren't worth it.

Well I'm a Minmatar working very close to the Highway system, so getting into Amarr space to hunt isnt a problem. As for the Rapid fire skill, its already trained to level 2. I'm training my drone/gunnery skills equally. As to the Beam suggestions, I'll take a look at them and if they look better, then I'll pick up the skills for energy weapons. I'll look into getting a Tactical Shield EM Harder. Thanks for the great suggestions Slithereen. A once retired pilot, now, once again helping those that fight the good fight. |

The Arbitrator has a reduced energy cap usage bonus on energy weapons. This means energy weapons use up less energy and cap drain. That's the reason why using energy weapons is recommended on the Arb.
Of course, the 650s use virtually no cap at all. But the thing about it is that you only have two turrets and putting weapons with a low rate of fire isn't going to help.
The other weapon I would consider for the Arb would be two 250mm rails on the turrets.
A fourth hi slot can be fitted with a smartbomb. Small ones are recommended as medium ones use up too much cap. You have to be careful when using smartbombs when you have drones orbiting around your ship.

It increases range and turret tracking speed (although you might need to activate it a few times to get the tracking bonus).
The Arbitrator is a pretty lousy ship, really. I'd recommend the Vexor as a much better level 2 drone cruiser.

Use only Hammerheads. their the best scout drone available. and fit 2 heavy Pulse Lazers wqith Radio M and Multi in CArgo hold. u should need to change ur crystals coz if they come to close ur hammers will eat them up. but better safe than never. Fit as many heatsink I's as possible and after burners with 1 shield hardener namely photonic.

Edited by: Zyrla Bladestorm on 09/09/2003 11:05:01 well I can see the reasoning, the arbitrator is a very cool looking ship :) (its stats dont quite match the looks, but I apreciate the want to be different)
for the dronebay I'd have to say use hammerheads till you can get heavy drone skill, when wasps will do well - ultimately you'd probably want 4 wasps and 5 hammerheads so you can use all 1500m3 dronebay (alternately 6 wasps, which would give more toughness but less damage output)
I'd have to say you'd find it hard to go wrong with heavy pulse lasers on there (especially after the next patch, but there still pretty decent now)
A launcher should be a definite yes when the patch hits :) but for now its not so important
for mid-slots an medium shield booster, damage shield (thermal to hunt blood pirates if your going to amarr space) and an afterburner would be a decent set
for low slots some good items you can look at are : Heat sinks, tracking enhancers, Power Diagnostic Modules (look for the power Diagnostic I model on the market .. Its the best I've personally seen, though I hear rumours of better)
Edit: next patch comments based on the assumption there will be no major changes to those before it goes live : which isnt entirely unheard of, so use caution . ----- Apologys for any rambling that may have just occurred.

Edited by: Shock on 09/09/2003 20:00:02 For everybody telling him to use a Thorax, that's a lvl3 cruiser and as such not really comparable.
Personally I think you should combine med lasers, some tracking enhancers and cap regens, some armour upgrades with some kinetic and explosive damage drones.
Also it has an advantage over the Thorax, it has a missile slot. And with the coming patch that might just become very valuable.
Also it is quite an uncommon ship so players will not know what kind of resistance to expect.

Hmm, Never thought of combining the types of damage teh drones do and the type of damage the lasers do.
When it comes to people saying "Get a Thorax" I don't think they care much for the "uncommon ships." I myself, realy like to be different and get the ship no one really uses. Besides, I have a love for missles too.

I had an Arbitrator prior to getting my Thorax. I love drones and still miss the Arbitrator's stunning good looks.
Good for you for not wanting to follow the crowd, and although the Arbitrator is not "as good as a Thorax" you could practically buy three of them for the price of one Thorax.
I would recommend the following:
Drone Bay The Arbitrator has a fantasically large drone bay! Get Heavy Drones ASAP - use Hammerheads until then.
High Slots Heavy Pulse Lasers with Radio/Multi crystals Whatever you want in the missle bay - I have not used missiles in a long time, so can't really comment. Maybe an Autotarget System if you don't like smartbombs.
Med Slots Afterburner(s), M Shield Booster, Shield Extender/Hardener
Low Slots Power Diags, Heat Sinks, maybe an Overdrive
As someone mentioned above, one of the nice things with drones is the ability to mix damage types. I typically do Kinetic, EM, and Thermal damage. This flexibility is IMHO a *very* good thing.

Akunosh Ryo, You have actually stimulated a long forgotten impulse within me (steady, now) .. like everyone else I was (silently) screaming, 'Thorax!' but that's if you're a min/maxer who wishes to use drones. I've always been a semi-RP fashion slave, who would rather have a fly looking avatar than a more effective one based on EQ. If we extrapolate to EVE, then I prefer either racial ships (Amarrian) or ones which have sleek good-looks and curves (Gallente, especially the Thorax).
It never occurred to me to purchase the Arbitrator because I always towed the party line that if you wished to use drones in a crusier than purchase a Thorax.
Thank you for reminding me that EVE and MMOG's do not necessarily have to be about the best stats all of the time. Remind me about this post when I purchase an Arbitrator and get my ass handed back to me in PvP :P
Once again, thank you for jogging my memory - Mr Alzheimer is rushing towards me with open arms - regarding the Arbitrator, as I would like to 'test' drones one day. That said, I still have to wipe the speckled foam from my chin when I think about the Dominix.

Hey Aku, the arbitrator is one of the most beautiful cruisers, and it can be powerful too. I use some 250mm protos and some heavy launchers, and a smartbomb. Fill up the low slots with dmg mods and fight from you optimal range. Med slots should be ab,shield booster, and armor repairer. I have about 1100 armor in mine and i rely on that instead of shield. This means they can take all my shield away and almost all my armor and i can still repair to full health. This works as the armor has better resistance % and therefor its a tough one to get thru.
And the guy that yelled out use thorax, let me yell back.

I think you'd want 2 Heavy Modulated Beam Lasers w/ MultiFreq crystal, an H-50 launcher with Wraths, a smartbomb or cap drainer (you have the free slot to use)
Mid slots shield booster is a must. A shield hardener based on the damage type you're facing is good to. Something to boost your speed is also nice. You have a lot of choices for mid slots.
Low slots are good for cap power relays and extruded heat sinks. I'm not sure if you will need a photonic and they are getting nerfed anyway.
For drones go Wasp or Ogre since you have lasers to do EM/Therm. ----------------------------------------- Sig rented by Drethen Nerevitas. |

wasps are about the most common bp/bpc as far as I know (they were for some time found only in cache containers .. not sure they still are, but there getting added to the market next patch anyway)

Aye, I'm thinking about training up my ebergy turret skill as time permits. For the mid slots, I've just about decided to go with a shield booster, shield hardner, and a named AB. The low sltos tho I'm still trying to figure out what to fit.
In reguard to the missles, drones and smartbombs not mixing, I'm still going to use missles. But, the smartbomb will wait for now. As for EW, I don't really plan on training for it since I don't PvP that much.

Aku, the skill Hull upgrades gives 5% more armor hp per level. I have that lvl 4 and that gives the arbitrator 1050 armor hp, then fit a 50mm or 100mm plating, it gives a pretty strong armor. Or the enegized nanos i believe they are 12.5% more armor.

Edited by: Vel Kyri on 12/09/2003 03:58:35 Ooh. The Arbitrator is a beautiful ship :)
I just put one together, loaded it with cap rechargers (low slots) and i can fit it out for exploring really well - i can fit a MWD on it, and 2 heavy beam lasers, autotargetter, med shield booster, em ward,.
i can mwd constantly at about 1.5km/sec and cap stays around 50%. or i can fire the beams and keep all shields up constantly and cap sits around 70%...
then you have a lot of drones to think about :)
i love this ship :) looks cool too :)
Edit: some useful information i have engineering skills up the yin-yang, so my powercore, cap, and cpu are as hi as i can get them - but i can load up the biggest lasers i can find (M Heavy Beam lasers x2), autotargetter, Med shield booster, tactical shield (depending on who the target is) and a afterburner (or MWD) and they all fit with space left (ie, space for a launcher too)
its overpowered for the slots it has.
ideally you would use radio crystals to take out the shields of enemy craft, and use thermal/explosive dealing drones to finish off the ships.
in low slot i tend to use lots of cap rechargers as i like to be able to fight for a long time non-stop (chaining npc rats) I always go for sustainability rather than max damage(for npc hunting)
Hope it helps -----

You might consider specializing in short range enounters with energy neutralizer and pulses with multifrequency (and radio to switch to for medium range) or neutron blasters, then you could use a MWD and armor reinforcements in the low slots... Maybe some cap stuff in the other two medium slots to make up for the mwd :P

Hmm, never thought about that short range set up - looks very do-able.
But doesn't that negate the very idea of drones? ie - send em out to 30-50k away (scout drone skill up high) and sit back a long way away.
I would tend more to using mid slots for range increasing and targetting modules (need right skills for this) to increase the targetting range (maybe out to 50 - 60k) and stay well clear of the fighting..
as to chain killing - thats not that hard. Just kill every pirate except the last one - leave him damaged and flying around, and new ones respawn faster.
hope this helps :)

Aye thought about the short range setup in school today and was thinking the same thing.
Thats all there is to chain killing NPC's? Gezz, after all this time I thought that there was more to it. Does this work on any NPC? A once retired pilot, now, once again helping those that fight the good fight. |

Right. Never having bought shield hardners before in my 4-5 months of playing EVE, I have no clue on what I am looking for in the market . Can someone let me know what I'm looking for? A once retired pilot, now, once again helping those that fight the good fight. |

Akunosh, thanks for making this post and thanks to all the information from other posters!
I found the information really helpful for a relative new player to the game. Between this thread and the other one on the forum about lesser used ships, it's really got my thinking about the great variety of ships in EVE and their possibilities if you just think about them instead of looking purely at stats.
Besides the price of the Arb is definately attractive for newer players like myself.

First, make sure you have the Tactical Shield Manipulation skill, as you'll need that to run hardeners. Then look for a Photon Scattering Field (EM), Ballistic Deflection Field (kinetic), Heat Dissipation Field (thermal), or Explosive Dampening Field (explosive). I'm pretty sure they're all found under the Shield Subsystems category in market.

My first combat cruiser is an Arb (as opposed to my first ever cruiser, which is an Omen I reserved for mining). I lost the Arb through some carelessness.
Reading this thread, I feel like getting an Arb again. That ship really shows you what you can do with just two turrets, and surprisingly a lot, if you do it right.

I have an arb and its a very good ship. If you have the right skills it has good armor and struct and half decent sheilds.
Also you only need two turrets to clear roid rats if you have prots and some good mods in the low slots. 1500 drones is only beat by the Thorax. Also anyone that has an arb knows its one of the best looking ships in the game. Its th only one that I have seen that has glass as part of its hull allowing you to see inside and through the ship. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Arbitrators in NPC action is easy to find.
Many of them in different colors, patrol the gates of the Amarr empire and loyal territories like the Khanid and Ammatar. Given the faction---Amarr, Sarum, Ammatar, Khanid---the color of the Arbitrator is different.
I have not seen NPC pirate Arbitrators in deep 0.0 space, but in various pirate spawns, they appear as a nasty thing called the Blood Arch-Engraver. They have a mean habit of scrambling, then blasting out your shields with EM lasers and missiles. I lost my Rifter to one of these long ago.

Sure, the model is pretty cool but it has Minmatar logos on it for some unknown reason which is a big negative in my book. In any case it's a lousy ship. In fact the only cruiser worse than the Arbitrator is the Auguror. The Amarr really got some winners.
If you really want a good level 2 cruiser either get an Omen or a Vexor, both of which are faster, tougher, more powerful, and just better in every way except drones. I don't really bother much with drones since they're such a pain in the ass to use.

Well quite frankly, I don't plan on training Gallente. Their ships are way to common and its really annoying.
I'll take a look at the Omen.
They be a pain in hte ass to you, but I realy don't mind using them at all.
Oh and the Minmatar logo on the side lets every other race know we build your ships. A once retired pilot, now, once again helping those that fight the good fight. |

Wel I now own the Arb, its just a matter of finishing Amarr frig 4 and getting Amarr crusier 2. Btw I'm going to try out a medium hybrid setup since my friend had a coule 250mm rails lying around and I'm closer to using medium hybrids than lasers. Well guys the Arb's a aweet ship. Well WAS a good ship until those two damn blood oracles passivly warp scrambled me. Anyway. I was running:
HiSlots- 2x 250mm Rails 1x H-50 Launcher
Medium Slots- 1x Small Shield Booster 1x AB 1x (Don't remember)
Low Slots- 1x Tracking Enhancer (forget name) 1x Alpha Hull Nanofiber 1x Something Last two slots were unfilled as I couldn't ever manage to get to Gallente space.
Now I'm saving for a new one and trainig the laser and drone skills. I now need to micro manage drones and missles (so the drones and missles are all on one target.)
Anyway, what lasers and crystals do you guys recommend?? I'd like to stay about medium range (I guess above 12KM). A once retired pilot, now, once again helping those that fight the good fight. |

Ryo, you can probably find an Arb for about 2.9 to 3 million in the Amarr Domain region, perhaps in the Khopa system. Augs average about 2.3 to 2.5 million in the same region.
