I've been doing a lot of missions for my Lv3 Rapid Assembly contact. He's only a mediocre agent but he payes a lot better than my other agents and the missions are more interesting. I have noticed however that he doesn't have a lot of respect for my fighting abilities. I am a highly respected contract employee of his corperation; I am constantly saving his ass or helping him find his damned foundation stones. I have saved the life of his boss's daughter or whatever countless times (she really needs to be more careful). Despite this he *still* insists on sending me up against burglers and kidnappers that a noob in a bantam could defeat. I do my missions in a Thorax. It takes me about one second to defeat the pathetic enemies I am sent against and that's with two of my slots dedicated to mining. the other day he sent me on a mission and I was *shocked* to see a 6k rat waiting there. That is by far the hardest thing I have faced while in the employ of this or any other agent. Why oh why can't a Lv3 agent at least give top level frigates as opposition? Maybe even a cruiser? Anything to add a little spice to the missions eh?

definatly agree. Cruisers may be a little to big, but top level frigs should be there at this level.
What should lvl5 agents give at this ratee - 1 20k cruiser?

Agent missions are anything but exciting. I did about 50 this weekend and I think the best one was getting a car back to his mother-in-law to make her shut up. At least I laughed when I read the job description.
What I really like is when they say they need X amount of a particular item and how important it is for me to obtain it for them. So I just load up the market screen and buy it from the same station - missions complete.
Edit: And yeah, the targets are too easy.

While I was happy that my newb reaper could actually serve a combat purpose for a while, I have to agree that even the lvl 1 combat missions are far too easy. I don't mind a bunch of fairly boring delivery missions as long as they get punctuated with the occasional challenging combat mission. Boring delivery missions combined with boring combat missions is, well, boring.

Edited by: Aissa on 08/09/2003 21:28:39 Bear in mind that the agent track is/should be just as viable as mining or rat hunting in general from the start. Just because we have 2.5 million skillpoints and can vaporize any opposition from the safety of a battleship or heavy cruiser doesn't mean it is easy for someone else.
I do think they should tweak them up a bit, along with the rumor service to something like this:
Agent 1: 1k rats.
Noobship kind of stuff. By the time you get a level 2 agent you probably have enough cash to squeeze yourself into a half decent level 2 or 3 frigate.
Agent 2: 4-6k rats
Combat frigate kind of stuff. Not a walk in the park for the relative new character, but since it is only 1 or 2 rats, it would be a decent challenge.
Since it takes about 70-80 missions to get a level 3 agent, that's a fair amount of coin earned towards either a top notch combat frigate, or a level 1 cruiser.
Agent 3: 8-20k rats
This is where I'd put the cruiser/frigate flag.
In a frigate? get 8-10k rats. In a cruiser? Get 20-30k cruiser rats.
By now you should be well into a decent cruiser or combat kitted frigate and can handle a cruiser or two. If not, what a great time to learn, eh?
Agent 4: 40-50k rats Agent 5: Battleship rats
Unimplemented, but by the time you get to a level 4 and 5 agent...

I too would like to see something a little bit more involved.
As it stands I can do all the missions in an industrial ship.
Many others can do them all in lvl 2 frigate.
How about diversity?
Make some missions only able to be completed in an industrial ie. 3000+ cargo to X location?
Make some missions only able to be complated in a cruiser, ie 20-50k NPCs.
The complete lack of challenge in the missions makes them beyond boring.
If some people want to stay doing the easy ones so be it. But possibly put in concord/empire missions that people can sign up for that are truly challenging, dangerous and pay more than 18-55k.

I don't mind agent missions becoming more complex, but I would mind if it requires you to be a jack-of-all-trades. There's already a tendency for people to be less specialized because the skill system does not encourage it.
For example, I'm a researcher. I'm not going to be able to take on nasty pirates (even once I get to level 5 agents), nor should I be required to.
There should be a way for agent missions to play to people's strengths, and not be completely random.

Acording to our master Papa Smurf the plan is to make diffrent NPC-corps give diffrent kinds of missions. The navy gives more combat missions, a transport corp gives courier missions etc.
So you chose to do missions for the corp that gives the kind of missions you are specialized to do.
The even more long term plan is to make agents actualy pay attention to your skills and tweak the missions acordingly.

Well, I agree, it would be nice if they would put in some better rats. I do the missions in a Dominix and never even use my main weapons. Running into a NPC battleship to make of fight of it would be cool.

Besides variations to mission types, difficulty and reward for each agent level, I would like to see variations during any particular agent.
That is, missions increase in difficulty and reward after doing several missions for the same agent. Everytime rating towards the agent improves, from 'neutral' to 'good' or similar. ____________________________________ Taggart wants YOU. Join TTi! *waves his hand in your face in the jedi way* |
