You won't find megacyte unless you hit 0.0 ---- EVE-Central.com | Obsidian Technologies - Manufacturing, Defense and Logistics. We're hiring! Mail me |

And even then some 0.0 regions don't have access to the really good ores, you have to go deep into 0.0 regions for that. ----- Join ODESSA Heavy Industries we are currently recruiting. Chief Recruitment Officer

Someone was telling me the other day that it's possible to mine 100mill/hour when mining megacyte - is this at all accurate, obviously with the right skills and barge etc. or is it a bit exaggerated?

crokite will get u a few bob an hour as it contains both megacyte and zyd. as far as i know, it is only found in deep 0.0 as stated before.

That is not far off, but 0.0 is all about teamwork, so you need to be more than one mining to get 100 mill an hour per person.

Covetor will do about 45 million an hour on Crokite (the most valuable ore except Mercoxit). Also, last time I checked there is no Megacyte in Crokite.

That's an interesting statistic. I mine in my cruiser on occasion, but of course it only has about 500 cargo space, so my take is limited. But buying a Covetor is no problem for me at all. Is there a website available that details how much ISK you can make based on a certain ship (ie: covetor) mining a particular ore, such as jaspet, crokite or kernite? I'm just interested in how you obtain the 45M isk figure.

However, there's plenty of Megacyte in Bistot - a slightly higher level ore usually available in systems with true security level of -0.8 or lower.
yes, there are 0.0 systems and there are 0.0 systems - sadly the game doesn't display the 'true security status', but there are websites which do. Generally any 0.0 system with security status between -0.01 and -0.7 is almost as sucky as 0.1-0.4 systems. The rats are better, but the ore is only slightly better than your average 0.1 low sec empire sys. Then the systems with -0.7 and below have crokite, -0.8 and below also bistot, and -0.9 and beyond Araknor and Mercoxit.
However, such systems tend to be far from empire, and being (ab)used by the local Alliance controlling the space. Ninja miners are usually shot first, then podded, and then asked 'wtf you are doing here?', so best way to get to mine the Good Stuff is to join a 0.0 Alliance. Many Alliances are more than happy to take mining carebears in, as long as they provide portion of their stuff towards common goal of building ships etc to maintain the security of the area.
However, life in 0.0 is not a cakewalk. While deep Alliance space is usually pretty safe, afk miners commonly meet cold hard vacuum via either high end rat spawns, or random enemy alliance gankers who like to hit deep into the infrastructure of their enemies.
Or, in other words - it's EVE at it's finest.

45 mil / h is in right ballpark for crokite yeld - tho one must keep in mind thats not the amount you actually would earn in 0.0 - you have usually haul that ore several jumps thru 0.0 or refine on spot with max 75 % refining rate (in POS).
One jetcan of crokite yelds around 16 mil with current market prices (4k / unit for zyd) and one large barge can do approx 3 jetcans in hour (modulated strip miners with proper T2 crystals, good mining drones and gangmeber with good mining foreman skill). And then you have 75 000 m3 stuff to trasport :)
