Sometimes the whole screen in space freezes but my UI is still clickable and usable, but my ship and everything is frozen in time, This started happening yesterday, Is there a way to fix this or what may be causing this?

Edited by: Takuya Murata on 15/03/2006 04:41:48 I can confirm this exact problem. You're not alone.
Additional details: UI remains responsive. Autopilot can be engaged/disengaged. Overview can be pulled down/retracted. Camera cannot be rotated/changed in any way. Reset Camera does nothing. Character Sheet is not clickable.

Update: The bug seems to occur after playing EVE for an extended period of time, and then it requires a total computer reboot to make it go away, but it comes back not long after, would it have something to do with the GPU overheating maybe?

Hey,
Yeah I've started getting the exact same problem, having it right now actually. I can also zoom in and out, fiddle with the UI etc but the screen is frozen. Between freezes the camera also spasmodically jerks around sometimes, and the problems seem worse coming into/entering warp, and going through/appearing from jumpgates. I'm pretty sure it's not an overheating issue although the problems do seem to occur after my pc has been on for a while, so possibly has something to do with memory issues, or the game cache?
I can run other high spec games perfectly (Fear, Call of Duty 2 etc) after Eve starts screwing up, which leads me to believe this is a software issue that has slipped in since the latest patch. I've also had a runtime error show after I clicked on one of the new character faces (to make it bigger) although I cannot be certain that this is linked.
I'll give more updates as they come.
For reference, my spec is...
AMD 4400+ Dual Core PCU Nvidia 7800 GTX 2GB RAM X-Fi Music Soundcard
It could be a compatability problem, but I am almost certain it is not overheating. Anyway, here's hoping..

something i was just experiencing 10 minutes ago is the exact opposite of your problem. The UI is completely non-responsive, the only thing you can do (hat i've tried) is to activate and deactivate modules. Although, the capacitor continues to recharge, showing no sign that you jsut took 95% of the cap.

same thing happens to my computer. I managed to exit to task manager and eve process takes more than 400 MB of ram. Everything starts to move very slow because xp goes in swap. I restarted EVE and observed the process in task manager. Ram usage grows by the second. Is this normal?
I have a P4 HT, 3.06GHz, 512 Ram, Nvidia go 5200 with 64MB. |

Hmph.. Well,i have the weird problem..I have Amd Duron 1.6ghz processor and 128mg Radeon 9250 Display driver and at the moment 512mg memory and today the game just freezed totally after i played 2hrs..This is my 2nd day "today" well, now it's 2:02am but anyway and i was doing this Mission where i needed to take some stuff from steel factory marine plant or something like that and game freezed and horrible loading continued for 15mins and then i got bored and made the fearless press of Reset button after trying ctrl+alt+del which didn't work..luckily nothing serious concerning Net happened and Registry Mechanic did the job..i think.. :) I was able to check my remaining memory with ctrl+alt+del and it showed 28mg:s left :( Please someone tell me that can i still safely start to play without that happening again or do i need to wait until i have 1gig memory..?

I started the game in window mode. At the beging it uses about 150MB of ram. After about an hour it uses 230MB of ram. After 2 hours it goes to about 400MB.

I *highly* doubt the amount of RAM used by the client has anything to do with the topic of this thread.
There is another thread on this forum labelled "Memory leak" or something along those lines which is likely what you folks are experiencing.

I have exactly the same problem, since RMR patch. Before it all worked well. Computer is a AMD 4400+ Dual Core with 2 GB RAM and ATI 1800XL.
Definatly no overheating. Problem is only with EVE after that patch. So it must be a memory leak at client side, which came into with that patch.
Arrives after some hours of playing. Restart of EVE doesnt help, only restart of computer.
And what i have seen in the last days it only occurs when more than 19k-20k players are online. It never (!) did occur with less players (like in the european morning hours) with around 14k. So it could be a "not just in time" reaction of the servers, that tend to be a unsynchronity of client and server, and that eats the memory.
I hope for a successful engagement of CCP in that matter.

Edited by: Jerppu on 24/03/2006 07:04:53 I guess that I've the same problem. Quite often it takes minute or two to enter warp. Also sometimes my ship is just like there is hand break on... won't accelerate over 100 m/s. This should be solved somehow quite soon. Thanks!

I get the same thing every few hours, it happened once last night after only about 30 minutes of play. I can continue chatting in corp chat, engage/disengage autopilot, my speed was frozen at about 21m/s or thereabouts. It seems to occur while traveling between stations and gates or vice versa, while warping through roid belts and fighting it does not seem to occur. I recently switched from fullscreen to windowed mode and it still occurs, I can't comment as to whether it's more or less prevalent in one or the other. (Win XP Home SP2 with latest updates as of 3 days ago, latest drivers for all hardware, P4 3.4GHz CPU w/ hyperthreading, 2GB DDR2 RAM, NVidia 7800GTX w/ 256MB RAM, Asus P5AD2-E Premium mobo w/ built-in sound, latest (non beta) BIOS.)

I'm having the same problem. It started after the 'blood' patch. I haven't tried the complete reboot, will try that now.

You need to start eve up, then ctrl alt delete, go to processes, and set 'exefile.exe' affinity to just 1 cpu. This is for anyone using dual core processors, and you will have to do it every time you start eve!

I had the same problem with my dual core AMD CPU until I installed the latest AMD driver and the Microsoft Dual Core hotfix.

This is my second day playing, didn't have this problem yesterday, but it was VERY noticable tonight. Comp is 3GHz P4, XP home, 1Gb ddr2-4200, GeForce 6600GT(128Mb). I ctl-alt-del out to desktop and found I had 8Mb of ram available and my page file had grown to over a gig. Eve finally just locked up.

My problem seems related to this thread. - EVE hangs for about 5-10 seconds, this happens every couple of minutes. The longer I have the game open, the more frequent it becomes. Quitting the game and logging back in resets everything but the problem is still there.

re-sub'd to Eve last night and had all the problems listed here. Had to reboot my PC to get any kind of response back after client got gradually slower before locking completely.
PC completely balks at two clients running whereas before(3/4months ago) I played with two clients all the time no problems.
Trying older drivers and resinstall of client tonight.

Edited by: Junky Man on 28/03/2006 14:20:09 I had the same thing happen, except, I know what caused my problem.
I ran the game for months with no problems. Started up teamspeak to speak with new corp and after a few minutes, screen would lock up. I could use the UI but not rotate camera, POV seemed stuck in distant space or something. Reset camera did nothing. Closing and restarting Eve helped for a couple minutes but then it locked up again. Rebooting didn't help any, still locked up after a couple minutes.
BUT, after closing eve for the 6th time, I closed teamspeak and restarted eve, never had the glitch again.
So, it seems, somehow, teamspeak was causing the error. Are any of you guys using teamspeak when this bug occurs?
BTW, this caused me to lose 5 Ogre I drones, when I closed the first time, they were still in space and once I got back in, they were there in space and showed owned by my corp but I couldn't scoop them or anything, had to leave them there

No, I am not using Teamspeak, nor do I have it installed (or have ever had it installed).
I don't think this problem has anything to do with Teamspeak, though. Come back in 2 or 3 weeks and mention if the problem has happened since you stopped using TS.

now that you mention it I do use Teamspeak but i cannot remember for the life of me if this bug happened while TS was on. Remember folks we are talking about graphical pause/freeze while the UI remains usuable, not a program lockup or cpu lockup

I do use TeamSpeak and have had it running during some of my crashes and reboots, but not all the time. The game seems to be more stable for me for the past 3-4 days, only one CTD and 2-3 freezes requiring game restarts, no reboots or BSODs.

Edited by: MOS DEF on 29/03/2006 20:22:27 I have the exact same problem and i can confirm that it occurs since blood patch. Never happened before. Heat or instability issues of my PC can be ruled out as well.
You can fix this by jumping out of the system btw. The problem is this bug can be lethal in PVP since you cannot allign your ship manually anymore.
Edit: I also switched from a nvidia 7800 GTX to an ATI x1900 XTX in the meantime and i had this problem with both cards so we can rule out graphics driver related problems too i guess.

I Get this, actualy, i get something quite similar. Every couple of hours or so Eve goes black.. although i can still see the mouse cursor (the eve mouse cursor). I wait a couple of seconds, and the picture comes back, and It works normaly. However the second or third will crash EVE, and this has only happened after RMR. When I press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to bring up the system resources, I can see EVE starting to chew up my 1gb of memory.
my specs are
AMD XP 2800+ 1GB Corsair Ram 320GB HDD Nforce2 motherboard with NForce2 audio ATI 9600XT 256mb
Latest drivers used for everything, ive even swapped the ATI Cat's for the omega drivers and back, using driver cleaner pro each time..
However it definatly, has started since RMR.. im hoping a new patch comes out soon

Having this same problem. Camera snaps out to uber-far zoom and locks if I'm in space, or it totally greys out if I'm docked.
