They're only useful for two things. Shooting red squares and as disposable fleet ships due to insurance and range projection.
They have been nerfed so hard its very difficult to justify using them over something else in game.
Subcap killing: BC, T3 and even carriers > BS due to weapon size, tracking, lock time and speed. Tanking: T3's have more EHP amplified by small sig radius and speed. Small gangs: Warp speeds, agility, speed make them undesirable. Gate camping: Mobility, locktime, damage application make them undesirable. Combat anoms - you can use 2 or 3 RR BS to run a 10/10 or 1 Hac to run the same combat anom due to to BS's aweful sig radius and citidel torp application (20k damage vs Ishtar / Tengu 1k or less) as well as damage application (BS Torps or Cruise (bad) vs Tengu HAM (good) or Ishtar Sentry (excellent), mobility, cloakability (lock time nerfage)).
BS have all the negatives of a capital but not the EHP / mobility (jump drive) of one. |

So what's the point? Because they will rip apart a fleet of cruisers in 10 seconds flat. BS on its own is shockingly vulnerable. A few BS with logi support are an impressive force - the alpha alone will instapop most targets if the fleet is being flown properly by disciplined pilots. Frigates are not usually a threat, the BS can just warp off/gate jump away/microjump out of the way. Against bigger stuff like fast hacs, etc, well that's what the logi is for, and the BS has a huge, huge buffer tank. Every ship has a function in Eve. Every single one has a niche. No. This is so wrong lol. A cruiser fleet will rip a battleship fleet apart. If its T3 cruisers the T3's will have bigger buffer tanks than the battleships + will have vastly increases speeds, vastly reduced sigs, much more cap and will apply 100% of their damage.
The battleship has no function other than cheap fleet fodder or ranged combat fleet. There are much better options like T3 and HAC fleets they simply cost more. Take away the insurance away from the battleship and it would only ever be used for sniping. |

Does that mean since the carrier is a capital that capitals are great for killing subcaps. No. Just like the super carrier, the carrier, the Dominix, Gila, Ishtar....the Slowcat scourge of Goonspace they're all good at sub cap warfare because they all share a specific element. One that is not specific to the majority of Battleships.
Its disingenuous, somewhat like saying all battleships are fine because the Mach is fine... |

Of course they are gonna eat up the T3 fleet with that much help and support. + it ignores one of the primary issues with battleships (BS weapons vs small ships) + ignores the OP'ness of assigning drones to a fast locking drone bunny. |

So we should ignore an entire class of ship currently in game that directly competes with battleships based on a possible future nerf the details of which we know absolutely nothing.
I guess we can ignore the whines from Goons regarding slowcats since they're irrelevent because one day there may be a nerf of drones and drone assist.
Thanks for clearing that all up.

And in that role they have a number of useful positions. This is incorrect and untrue. Please post me a link where any dev ever stated that battleshiips are fleet vessels only?
The reality is that apart from capital ships and certain dedicated fleet ships such as logis, recons, EAS and the like (some of which can stll solo like pros (curse for example)) all ship which were released at launch were designed as solo ad small gang ships.
From memory maximum gang size was 6 people at release. Not sure where the Battleships were designed as fleet ships came from but its pure horseshite lol. |

So what's the point? Lots of EHP, lots of damage, lots of range. BS aren't ownmobiles, and they shouldn't be, but there are some jobs that nothing else will do. Hmm no. EHP over BC is not significant. EHP over T3 is non-existant, T3 have more, huge amounts more when considering mitigation. DPS over BC no. Paper DPS perhaps but actual applied DPS is what matters. A battlecruisers dps will all be applied to a cruiser. Hardly any of the BS dps will be applied to a cruiser.
Range is all they have however a attack battlecruiser has that too. So do sentries. |

You realise the Proteus has a sub for buffer tanking and its tank is bigger than a battleships when fitted correctly. Foolish to active tank a Proteus imo. The mega, in it's nature as a Battleship, has a massive advantage being active tanked. There is no way, you can fit a Proteus to solo a propperly fit mega. Passive tanked Battleships are old hat, and only work now with on-grid logistics. Fit a web and scram to that mega, a MJD, and an active tank and there is nothing a proteus can do on it's own to win. It can escape, sure, and the Mega won't be able to catch it, but the opposite is also true. If your going to sit within web and scram range of a Mega, your going to die. Stray out of scram range, and you can't pin a mega with a MJD. The natural advantage of a Battleship in active tanking, is that it has a large cargo bay for cap boosters, a natural buffer (that you don't need to add to) for some leeway in your active tank, and lots of slots. Plus, it doesn't rely on moving to keep it's tank up, unlike anything smaller that will explode almost instantly the moment it stops moving. Change the Mega for a Hyperion and the effect is massively exaggerated. Hmmm I don't know what you're thinking but if you're not using a buffer and max dps (can't do that with reppers) then you're doing it wrong imo. Mega is a in your face, blow it up till it dies or you die ship. Bleed tank maybe is okay but not relying on active reps imo.
Each to is own. In any case the point is that for a proper comparison of ability one has to measure the same things. You don't measure a Proteus buffer tank vs a Mega active tanking or you get nonsense data.

You clearly are very very bad at PVP. Therefore your capability to annalyse what ship is good or not is incredibly limited. :) Not everything you read on the internet is true. Perhaps check BC instead. Might also be interested to know that data was not always pulled from the API. For 4 or 5 years it wasn't posted unless it was manual posted. Anyway, to use a battleship in PVP you should have at LEAST 15 M sp. Before that you shoudluse smaller ships for PVP I don't have a problem with the fitting, I find that large railguns are really not an improvement compared to medium ones. You exchange more range for less tracking speed and the dps is near the same, it looks more like a sidegrade than a direct upgrade power-wise imo. And actually I don't do PvP, I first need a proper income to pay for when I will get podded. Have to agree with this. This is my exact experience as well. I've been trying to fit my Rokh to do level 4s, but so far I haven't been able to get it to any decent dps using hybrid rails. My BC Ferox does almost the same dps as a full fitted Rokh in EFT. So for now I'm sticking to doing level 3s since I'm clearly doing something wrong, or trying to get the wrong ship (Rokh) ready to do level 4s, it might not be possible at all, and I might have to accept that all my hybrid turret training has been a waste and I should start over in missiles and get a Navy Raven. Blaster Rokh is quite a beast especially with null Its also completely screwed by a T1 Cruiser (Thorax). Rokh vs Thorax
The cut off bit is the dps applied to the Thorax by the Rokh with 3 tracking computer II with tracking speed scripts and the Thorax webbed. Ironically with both ships scrammed but only the Thorax webbed the Rax is still faster than the Rokh by 40 mps.
You can clearly see how the the nerf to tracking and sig of weapons contributes to bring the Rokhs dps down from 1100 to about 50 to 100 dps while the Rax's damage is fully applied. |

Compare the following, considering a lot of people believe nerfs to scan resolution is to prevent insta blapping smaller ships:
Tempest Scan Res with 2 Sebo's = 300mm Alpha = 11k
Tornado Scan Res with 2 Sebo's = 700mm Alpha = 11.5k
Both fit the same weapons, both do roughly the same damage per volley, both fit the same scan res mods however both don't get the same scan res boost. In fact even 4 sebo's don't get the scan res on the Tempest as the Tornado gets with 2...
This diminishing returns on mods is one of the reason BS suck so much. Fitting a high end mod on a battleship often equates to in actuality, fitting a civilian mod, in comparison to fitting that same mod on a smaller ship. |

How does this make battleships suck? The fittings are not important. The only thing that is important is in all cases a Rax inside 2k of a Rokh, even if the Rax is webbed, and the Rokh has 3 T2 Tracking Comps with Tracking Speed Scripts is invulnerable.

A cruiser MUST get within 10 km to fight a battleship, or the Battleship will MJD away and leverage on its range advantage. And if you get under 10 km.. your graphs do not look so cute anymore.
Of course 3-4 thoraxes will kill a rokh, but that is how eve is designed, numbers means a lot. Yeah thats why I have a 6/1 KD completely solo record and why I went to war solo in null vs Tribe and beat them 22/1. Because I don't know to fight.
Now take your same cute throax agaisnt a tempest.. it wil be OBLITERATED , no matter what you try. The same rokh altough has a fair chance of killing the tempest.
Well granted I'm not the best PvP'r. However every kill I have ever had in EvE was entirely solo. I've fought wars against thousands of players and beaten them multiple 10's to 0 k/d.
My last war was against Tribal Band in null, in their main hub system, I beat them 22/1. I have an overall 6/1 solo k/d. So while I'm not the best I do know enough to know how to get under someones guns.
Clearly the graphs I showed show the Rax is invulnerable under 2k. Its very easy to get a Rax under a battleships guns before it can lock you and with a bit of manual piloting its easy to not get hit while you're ingressing.

And by realistic scenario I mean.... 3 v 3 for example. You really show your lack of understanding of combat whan you fix your mind into hypotetical 1 v1 scenarios where a cruiser jump into a battleship flying alone.. battleships flying alone outside pve are among the rarest things you will see. On a real fight, the battleships will stay roughly 10 km from each other.. so wherever you go you will receive 2 k dps on your head at near perfect range. The only cruisers capable of matching battleship power are t3, and they are going to be nerfed for a reason. You cannot make comparisons on a 2 v 1 or 3 vs 1 basis. Of course 3 battleships will beat 1 cruiser. The issue is the inequalities between single ships. The rest is taken care of naturally. |

Re you that unable to read? 3 BS vs 3 cruisers. In fact even 3 battleships vs 6 cruisers!!!! What you think would happen to 6 thoraxes attacking 3 armageddons? or attackign 3 tempests? Hint.. they would not fire for more than 12 seconds... It does not matter. Its not about 3 cruisers vs 3 battleships. Its about 1 battleships ability vs 1 cruisers ability. Setting up scenarios to obfuscate the glaring issues is pointless.
How about I get 1 thorax, and 2 pilgrims. Now your 2 extra Rokhs have no cap and can't hit anything. My Rax pawns them all. That';s why setting up scenarios with multiple and various ship types fails. There's always a counter unless its 1 v 1 in comparison. |

I think any reasonable person would think that fitting 3 tracking computers and a web in exchange for its tank should allow a battleship to hit a cruiser at any distance. The issue is that modules do not give equal bonuses but diminishing bonuses base on hull size which makes modules for larger hulls with lower ratios almost pointless.
I haven't looked at the ratios but I imagine if you fit a tracking mod on a cruiser you get 2 times what you get if you fit the same mod on a battleship. And if its like sensor boosters and scan res, even fitting 3 tracking mods on a battleship likely gives less tracking boost than one of the same mod on a cruiser.
How is that logical? And for what reason is it even justifiable. |

NO! Its NOT possible! Or almost impossible 1 thorax jumping into a solo battleship is infinitely less realistic scenario than 3v3. Yes this is not about 1v1 or 3v3, thius is about your complete and utter lack of PVP experience or understanding of the game and how people behave in this game! You are the one theorycrafting! You are the one bringing examples taken from obscure holes! If your scenario is remotely realistic why you do not have a single kill with a thorax against a solo battleship. Lol. Chillax, you'll burst a haemorrhoid.
It is possible. You can yell and scream all you like but the data clearly shows if you had balls you could do it. Why do I have no recent Thorax vs battleship kills. Because there is a distinct lack of BS flying around null and the prevalence of T3, Hac and fast kiting small ships like the pirate cruisers make solo blaster Rax unfun.
Additionally the difficulty in finding any single battleship other than a ratter, although primarily they're using attack BC, without friends make solo blaster ratting unfun.

Imagine you were given the task of creating 3 robots, one small and fast with light weapons, one medium and average speed with medium weapons and one large and slow with heavy weapons.
Would you create them but give the big slow one weapons that could barely hit the medium one and almost never hit the small one?
You'd get fired. Your excuse of "being able to hit the medium one with multiple big ones!" wouldn't fly. Getting two of the medium one would be 10 times cheaper and 10 times smarter. BS are pointless atm. |

Its not about homogenizing its about comparisons of capabilities and vulnerabilities.
In a comparison of battleships vs small ships the small ships capabilities often cross over and into the battleships specialities (damage / tank / drone bay) and the BS vulnerabilities (speed, gun sig, tracking, agility, scan res) are exacerbated by the smaller ships whose strengths mirror the BS vulnerabilities.
When you get to the point where the strengths are not worth the vulnerabilities you have a situation where the ship will no longer be used very much and it needs a buff.

1v1 is only one metric of a ship's abilities. Gee, I wonder why he's ignoring this post. No they are terrible.
I gave a pretty good explanation why they are terrible too. Diminishing returns on fitted modules. In short fit a sebo to a frig it'll give you 600mm boost. Fit one to a cruiser it'll give you 400mm. Fit one to a battleship it'll give you 50mm. Same module.
You can fly around null fine in an Ishtar with a cloak, still get a decent lock time, try it in a battleship, you'll get 50 second lock times on frigs.
BS hulls are already stupidly nerfed for no real reason anyone here can seem to explain and they're further nerfed when fitting mods.
For all you little girly small ship people, how would you like it if you fit an officer mod to your little girly ship and because it was the ship you like to fly it somehow turned itself into a civilian module. Thats what happens whenever you fit a mod to a battleship that gives a ratio boost on a super nerfed attribute.

Can a Megathron tackle a cruiser at gate reliably? No Can a Megathron and an interceptor tackle a cruiser at a gate reliably? Yes?
If you said yes you're wrong. The interceptor can tackle the cruiser at a gate reliably. The Mega's deficiencies are just masked. The more ships you add the more deficiencies are masked.
If the Mega is at the gate by itself, it cannot engage reliably. Only the cruiser can force the engagement. If the cruiser wishes it can even kill the Mega depending on fits. In short the most powerful subcap in the game (not in actuality) is the weakest.

If you fit medium guns on a battleship that has damage bonus, then you should never ever undock that ship. You realize how wrong you are? Why attack BC needed to have 1/3rd of the EHP of combat BC while at same time not sporting drone defenses...? TO compensate a single thing.. LARGE WEAPONS. They are FAR FAR more powerful than medium ones. Wait, what, where did I wrote that I fitted medium turrets on battleships ??? I was comparing the dps of medium meta 4 railguns on a battlecruiser (brutix) with (more numerous) large meta 4 railguns fitted to a battleship (megathron) with the same ammo type (antimatter), the same level of relevant skills, near exactly the same fit with adapted size of modules, all of that, and said what I experienced: for a seventh railgun and a third magstab added the increase of dps from medium to large is subpar. The only good thing out of it is the increased shooting/targeting range, frankly I do not find it very worthwile considering the amount of hitpoints one can find in L4. So for now I'm back in my brutix doing L3 and looking more and more at the Brutix Navy Issue. EDIT: I just calculated the difference in dps between 250mm meta 4 rail and 425mm meta 4. 250mm Prototype Gauss Gun 24 (14/10) Base Charge Damage (Antimatter) X 4.17 Damage Modifier 5.42s Rate of Fire Dps: 18.465 425mm Prototype Gauss Gun 48 (28/20) Base Charge Damage (Antimatter) X 3.63 Damage Modifier 9.56s Rate of Fire Dps: 18.226 Basically, at equal bonuses the medium version does more dps than the large one. Of course the large have far more range but it has also far less tracking speed. If the increased range is the only thing that is bettered then it is disapointing. are we just shooting structures that don't shoot back Oh one more thing about your "heaps of people using them" Goons use them for cheap fleets vs what? Primarily caps and other BS. Likely also at range too and cyno'd around. This eliminates the majority of tracking / sig / mobility issues that kill them for solo / small gang. |

No we are not, that's why the decreased track speed is in itself a big enough problem, no need to have a decrease or stagnation in damage to top it off. Frankly, people take BS to L4 for the increased tank, but if all large turrets are like that I start to understand why dominel fits are so popular. And, Zonia ? I'm not on the BS topic here, I'm on the fact large railguns dps suck big time, large weaps are not the ships themselves. Large guns fit on battleships (and attack battlecruisers). Tracking and sig radius are a huge part of why battleships suck so your posts are relevent. Also consider that you're posting in a thread about BS not Large Rails or perhaps rename the thread? |

I will respond to one of your nonsensical points.
In your previous post you stated something along the lines of 'my use of niche scenarios' and that the comparisons I made were not relevant because they were cherry picked etc etc.
They made me grin since I prefer to stay away from scenario's when it comes to discussing this topic. The Rokh thing while a scenario is certainly not niche. In fact jumping into a system and finding a ship at a gate is pretty common place in the EVE I play. However the focus of that example can squarely be placed at the large turret trying to track a small sig target at close range. That's certainly not a niche scenario and apart from missiles is a factor in every fight involving battleships at close range.
As for the cherry picking its a pretty standard method of balancing. Its easy to see patterns if you follow specific attributes from the smallest ship through the range of ships in game up to the largest. Whether its EHP, sig radius, scan resolution, capacitor amount. It therefore makes sense to compare these attributes against these patterns when looking at battleships vs other ships.
Its also useful to look at the attribute patterns at release and attribute patterns now. Review the changes to the ships (BS) in this case and see how those changes affected the different attributes and subsequently the capabilities of the ships.
I look forward to a completely nonsensical reply from you. I'm sure it will be amusing. |

They made me grin since I prefer to stay away from scenario's when it comes to discussing this topic. So why are you using one as your only real (and provably false) argument? It's a niche argument because you've set up a long-range fleet ship against a close-range brawler in a 1v1 with specific rules about how each is allowed to GÇö indeed must GÇö dictate the engagement. This is about as niche as it gets. It tells us nothing about battleships or cruisers or engagements. It only tells us something about this very specific instanceGǪ which you got wrong anyway. Oh, and I understand that you want to stay away from scenarios since those are actually able to provide some kind of general pattern, if you include enough of them. After all, a scenario takes all the attributes into account and put them into context GÇö something you are loath to do since it kind of hurts your point. As mentioned, you can't compare attribute to attribute because they are meaningless in isolation. They need to be applied to a real (or at least realistic) set of scenarios, with all the environmental and situational and compound effects those scenarios entail. Quote:As for the cherry picking its a pretty standard method of balancing. GǪbut we're not talking about balancing GÇö we're talking about your arguments and GÇ£dataGÇ¥, and the immensely broad conclusions you draw from that minute data set. You've cherry picked your data to (incorrectly) come to a conclusion you want, and then you make some grand declamation based on this biased sample. Quote:Its also useful to look at the attribute patterns at release and attribute patterns now. You mean, accepting the fact that battleships in general have been turned into fleet ships? Yes, that would be useful if it weren't for how it would blow your claims out of the waterGǪ which is why you don't want anyone to do this. *yawn* |

Please show me any "proof" that the developers of EvE have had the intention or do have the intention to turn BS into fleet only ships as you claim.
Please take care to remember that the developers have recently stated their intention to make ship classes more mutlirole (combat, attack etc) rather than tiered.
One could correctly point out that given the recent changes to Marauders, the active tanking, inability to RR and immobility that they went in the complete opposite direction in respect of fleet role and that Maruader changes were more aimed at small to medium gangs in respect of pvp.

Thanks for the input. Wait wait, you need to listen more to what Infinity Ziona has to say... Short answer: Because BS suck. They suck....when you don't use them right. That's what you refuse to understand (in standard selfish fashion). BATTLESHIP, not BC, not cruiser, dessie or frig. Just because you want to solo in a BS doesn't mean it's a good idea for the game. Ship classes should have definite roles, things they are good at and things they aren't. Tell me, if BS' could do what you want them to, why would anyone fly something else? Firstly you tell me what you think I want battleships to do? I don't believe I ever specified that :)
And no, they suck in comparison to all other subcaps because the role they were designed for (killing other subcaps in PvP) they are no longer even marginally useful for.
This is primarily because of large weapon nerfs, tracking nerfs, mobility nerds, sig radius, speed tanking, inability to use cloaks effectively, inability to get even a comparative boost from ratio based mods, absurdly slow warp nerf, cruiser sized drone bay nerf, nerfed drone bandwidth.
This of course all because we can't have BS blapping small ships with 12k alphas yet we have BC without all these nerfs blapping ships with 12k alpha.
Yes we have a multitude of ships blapping small and big ships all the time. Its a very poor excuse when 60 million worth of cats can pop a 6 billion isk freighter in less then 15 seconds. Yet a single battleship cannot be allowed to be viable in PvP because it'd be too 'dangerous'.
Whats the alpha difference between a 50k Tornado and a 1 billion isk Mach? 2k lol. Nado warps, locka, aligns, cloaks better than a Mach.
Whats the difference between the cost of a T2 Trimark Medium and a T2 Trimark Large? 70 million. In fact to fit 3 T2 Trimarks on your T1 BS will cost you close the full cost of a T3 unfitted.

Its not a solo focused ship, the mega is a great fleet/small gang ship. The kronos is a much better adapted ship for solo/small gang work. Nah its not a bad solo ship as battleships go. However that's similiar to saying a Veyron is not a bad formula 1 car as GT cars go. Veyron (Mega) against F1 GP cars (HAC, T3, Pirate Cruisers and BC) will get slaughtered. Even against T1 cruisers its likely by by time. |

Let's judge the strength of Megathrons with a 1v1, or by flying solo. Logic. Strawman. I didn't say the mega was not a solo pvp ship. I said it was both a solo pvp ship and a small gang pvp ship which in late years has gone from good at solo pvp to poor at solo pvp.
As for my Rokh example, that was in a response to someone who introduced the Rokh into the thread saying it was sufficient, my response was to that. I never introduced the Rokh into the thread.
As for the solo battleship challenge. Firstly I only fly solo and that and small gang pvp is what I consider valid PvP, the rest (blobs, ganks, capitals) is just rubbish and requires no skill or effort other than to turn up and follow simon says style.
Addtional to the solo issue is that many people in this thread continue to spread falsehoods about the capability of battleships, some stating that its my "using them wrong" which gives me the impression that they're broken. In response my challenge was laid down so that they can show me how to 'use them right'.
The fact they refuse to take up the offer is pretty telling - IE they're full of shite.

So since I'm awful and these guys are self proclaimed great pvp'rs I figured I'll look at one of my best awful wars where I went solo 50 jumps into null to an alliances hub system and threatened to kill them unless they let me dock in one of their outposts. In that war I got 22 kills before getting hot dropped. That was in a 'according to the forum warriors here' a '**** fit XLASB Proteus'. I then returned in a standard armor Proteus and got a further 11 kills before getting ganked.
Given the aforementioned warriors think that battleships are fantastic as they are, I imagine they could show me how to use these battleships and so, being a fair person, I decided they should easily be able to do similar to what I did and get at least 1/4 the kills I got. So 5 instead of 22 I think is quite fair.. Dont you?

Additionally given you are Goonslime and this is EVE; providing you with a billion isk ship would likely be shortly followed by a "Lol I scammed Ziona out of a 1 billion isk ship thread".

Loss of SP must be reflected in something. They also represent future tech. For now only tech 3 cruisers been released. Some day CCP will get around to expanding the T3 ship tree. CCP is very consistant when it comes to nerfing useful ships into useless crap. The devs are also consistant at showing their inability to understand EvE as its played by the players and tend to understand it only through paper based stats that dont translate well into the actual gameplay.
I have both Minnie and Gallante T3s trained with my Gallante subs to 5 yet havent used a T3 for about 4 months.
Its very likely they will take T3 and balance them based on that paper data making them useless in game. One of the methods of determining if something is ima is over representation in game. I dont think T3 are overrepresented. In comparison sentry based ship, suicide cats and Archons are.

No1 will use them anymore and I already feel like the trend of making all ships the same and boring, is out of control. Diversity is what keeps a game interesting and fun imo. Nothing wrong with a ship being OP if the cost or time to build puts it back on a level playing field. Caldari can have weak cruisers but above average battle cruisers and Minmater can have strong cruisers but weak battle cruisers. You could then balance a bit by providing more versatility to weaker ships or advantage in slots or something so players can fool around. Would reflect real life military a lot more and would keep things interesting.
As it is after the rebalance all races will end up with basically the same ships with different looks in their arsenal. What is the point in having different races then? I feel like CCP is throwing all the ice cream flavours together to create a single flavour no-one would chase the ice cream truck for.
Then where's my brawling amarrian battleship?... and the apoc doesn't count cuz lazorz v0v Battleships to me are the strongest 'all around' ship types, with the large number of slots, ehp and dps you can do a lot with them, comparing them in specific circumstances to a different ship type is just totally misunderstanding their role. Sure you can say an AF has a better sig tank and better applied dps but if that AF gets webbed and scrammed down by a small gang of T1 cruisers it's toast, a megathron for example gives not a single **** that it just got webbed and scrammed by 5 T1 cruisers, it doesn't NEED to be in an optimal situation to do well, it has the base stats to handle a wide variety of situations even with the major drawbacks that comes with a big unwieldy hull. You dont compare their performance in specific scenarios but rather their specific stats outside of specific scenatios.
If a frig scan res is 600mm, a cruisers is 400, a battlecruisers is 250 and a battleships is 120 is are the differences justified in consideration of the ships abilities.
Given 1 sebo on a 600mm will take scan res to inty lock time, 400 to frig lock time, 250 to cruiser lock time but 120 to only half of battlecruiser lock time is this justified based on ship performance.
Given BC and below 1 sebo will take lock times down to the next small class is BS requiring 3 sebos for the same result balanced.
Its about asking questions based on known data not opinion or fanboism.

How is that the opposite of tiericide? As it stands right now T3s are very clearly in a different 'tier' to all the other cruisers, with ehp, dps, and damage application being in some cases several times greater than T1, T2 and faction cruisers performing a similar role. And inb4 the bullshit about the on paper figures not being representative of the real ingame effectiveness I'll give the real ingame example of a proteus facetanking my 1500 dps vindicator for 10 minutes... buffer fit... and only getting to 1/3rd armour... Of course theyre in a different tier theyre Tech Three ffs.
As for facetanking a 1500 dps Vindi for 5 minute the issue is likely not a T3 problem its a large gun / sig / speed / tracking problem, depending on the situation, gang links / boosters / tracking disruptors its possible for large turret based shipstobe rendered useless against smaller targets. |

The only reason battleships are going to be used is cost and range (with associated dps drops to sub hac bc damage).

I was referring to range when I said damage application, although I think the DPS is still a little better in BSes too. Cruisers tank the same with reps, or more with T2 resists but they lack buffer, which makes them easier to alpha. Well that depends. The only time range is really going to be important is fleet fights and sniper gangs. So in the majority of EVE pvp which is not the two instances above, dps is going to be higher from HAC. I can get 900 dps from Garde II out of an Ishtar to all ships from intie to supercap at 30 - 15km, about 600 from a drone Proteus with signficantly less tracking, or 150 to 1100 from a Mega depending on target size.
Regarding tank, its not simply a matter of comparing raw EHP. I have had a bastioned marauder two shotted by citidal torps while I can sit stopped in a 150 sig Ishtar and barely have my shields scratched.
While a battleship may have more EHP on paper it also takes signficantly more dps from all incoming damage than smaller faster ships like HAC. |

I'm saying they're more comparable to BSes than other cruisers are (due to tank) and that they are more comparable to BSes than they are to other cruisers. They outclass all cruisers greatly in combat roles. Except HAC and HIC's and umm Logistics :) So No they don't. Oh and Pirate cruisers (well some of them)
Edit:
However you are imo, correct that they cross the threshhold into the battleship's territory in regards to ehp. But EHP on battleships should be more in the realm of 300k to 500k given the cap like penalties they incur for their crappy extra HP. |

You have to fit a T2 or T3 cruiser accordingly in order to kill battleships. Likewise, you have to use specific battleships and fit them accordingly in order to kill T2 and T3 cruisers How so? If I want to kill a battleship in a Prot all I need is blasters, prop mod (usually I use 10mn AB), scram and cap injector with 400's. 1600 plate, hardners, mag stab and dcu...
If I want to kill a cruiser / bc I'll use the same thing....
No need to fit differently in a T3, HAC, or any other ship.
The only time that changes is against an ECM / Neut or specialist battleship like a Mach or Dominix... the rest of the general tank and spank BS need no special refitting... they die very easily

I don't really consider HICs and Logi to be combat roles, as such. I mean, a logi boat isn't winning any fights and I don't think a HIC is either. I don't do fleet fights but I know logi's and HIC's in small gang are deadly. The main thing though is they have a role that is not able to be matched by a T3 in any way. |

My point is that we can argue about HACs being OP if you want, but every point you make in that argument will only strengthen my argument that T3s are OP because T3s, in general, outclass HACs. Well not really...
Take the following random fits I pulled from Zkill -
[Proteus, ] 1600mm Reinforced Steel Plates II Damage Control II Federation Navy Magnetic Field Stabilizer Federation Navy Magnetic Field Stabilizer Federation Navy Magnetic Field Stabilizer Imperial Navy Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane Shadow Serpentis Armor Explosive Hardener

Drone Link Augmentor I [empty high slot] [empty high slot] [empty high slot]
Medium Core Defense Field Purger I Medium Core Defense Field Purger I
Warrior II x2 Wasp II x5
Like you said the Proteus has some absurd EHP, which imo should get a nerf. However comparatively the status otherwise are pretty similiar.
MOST IMPORTANTLY,
where did these fits come from, I got them from Zkill, Goonwaffe losses, last 10 pages, 50 kills per page, so out of 500 kills only 4 or 5 T3 vs tens of HAC's, the majority Ishtars.
If one assumes that Goonwaffe is an average alliance, and number of losses gives a general idea of ship popularity, and that ship popularity is based on ship ability, cost and performance, then its very clear that T3 are not the wtfpwnmobile that people think they are.
I did the same with gentlemans agreement and few other corps / alliances and the pattern is repeatable, both for battleships as well as T3. It only changes when you find fleet battles occurring with fleets of Tengu, Typhoon, Domis etc but they're more aberrations.
I'm tempted to write a plugin to EVEHQ that'll pull kills from zkill and seperate the data properly in pvp / pve / ship types / null / low etc but not sure if its worth it, people will still blindly argue in the face of provable fact their biased stupid points... |

It'd be different if I compared a faction fit Ishtar against a T2 Proteus and said, "see the Ishtar is almost as good" however I did the reverse. The T2 fit Ishtar (HAC) is close to as good as the faction fit T3 apart from the EHP which would still be well in excess of the Ishtar even with T2. So it doesn't matter.
Edit: Also since there were a distinct lack of T3's on the killboard, I had to choose something, no T2 fit ones on there :) |

No T3 can get even close to that. |

Ok, lets pretend we're comparing apples with apples here. I can squint hard enough for that. Here's a thought; perhaps the KB looks the way it does is because a faction fit T3 cruiser is less likely to die in combat than a PVE fit Ishtar. Gee, it's almost as if one of these apples is actually a hand grenade painted red, and the other is just an apple. Guess which one is just an apple. No its not the case IMO. I looked at your kills as well and the same pattern is shown there. Distinct lack of T3's vs HACS. Unless of course your saying they're so unkillable that when your alliances in their T3's and other ships meet others in T3's only the non-T3 die while the T3's just giveup unable to kill each other.. I don't think that's a reasonable assumption. |

T3 wipe the floor with them if not for the instant and perfect hitting alpha and the need to retrain for the subsystem if you do die. Incidently, how much ehp does this max dps ishtar have? 30k or thereabouts.
T3 might wipe the floor with them but likely purely based on the inordinate amount of EHP and only if they manage to get in range. Which is quite a feat with some HACS. |

The latter should very rarely die at all. Which is, naturally, why you found a stack of dead T3s on our killboards, rather than PVE Ishtars... Oh wait. The reason there were no significant number of T3 is likely they're not being used as much as people think. The likely reason they're not being used as much is there are probably better ships to use over T3 (whether due to cost, SP loss, a preference for pure role specificity or otherwise).
If that's true and Goonwaffe PvP losses reflect average usage in PvP then any nerf will see T3 use pretty much disappear which would be foolish.
