I nearly started a conversation with a war target, when trying to ôShow Infoö . Luckily there was a CPSA charge which prevented me actually talking to the guy.
I shat myself. I am a soldier, and I shoot whoever my CEO asks me to shoot, no questions asked. I donÆt know what to say to someone whose evening I am trying to ruin.
Probable convo could be
Me > sorry to bother you but could I shoot and kill you
War-target > nope
Me > so a podding is out then?
War-target > yup
Me > you donÆt talk much
War-target > nope
As you can see, this could be a very embarrassing convo, which can be prevented by simply moving the right click option to ôStart Conversationö to bottom of menu.

I fully understand where you are coming from.
Man the amount of time when out pirating I have gone and started a convo instead of going show info.
Its horribly embarassing when they answer your convo
===> Hi you wanted to see my info didnt you
me=> Ummm, Yarr... I mean yes.... ah I mean.... sorry to bother you
It would be great to get that start convo or the show info tab moved.

Could be fixed if CCP would put in shortcut's for most of the used commands. I mean, how hard is it to make the enter key start typeing in the chat window like most other MMO's. then we'd have the whole keyboard for shortcuts.
For pilots that are supposed to be directly conected to our ships we sure do use the mouse a lot.

i like the enter to activate chat suggestion. just add first person view flying with a joystick option and i'm in eve heaven for another few months.

an even easier fix would be to move start convo down the context menu instead of so close to show info.

I've started convos with so many people that way, they really just go:
Them: hi
Me: Sorry, was trying to (show info/convo person above/below you in local, send mail...etc).
Them: k
Convo ends.

Funnier ones are when someone else starts the convo and it goes like:
Them: Can I help you?
Me: You started the convo
Them: No I didn't.
Me: Well I don't want to talk to you, only gank you
Them: Oh. Uh bye...

The first time I ever smacked in local was because about 5 SA convo'd me as I was jumping thru their 30 pilot fleet back in the CA days.
The problem is its right beneath Show Info and if you dont have an isk amount set to convo you there is no box that pops up to ask "are you sure you want to start a convo?"
So when I jumped it takes show info away and left Convo, but this is about the same time the convo bug was around so I thought they were trying to cheaply gank me by getting me bugged, I even went so far as to post an assault frig kill in local that we had killed with 2 ceptors I was so ****ed. I still feel bad for being a jerk but like 2 days later I did the same thing and instantly felt like a jacka$$ for running my mouth to about 50 people in local.
Even if the isk to convo is at 0 it should say "it costs 0 do you still want to convo?"

It is particularly more embarrassing when in a fleet situation. The enemy fleet is in same system. Your fleet commander is talking out of his ar$e on ventrillo. Your bored so you play with the names of the war-targets in ôLocalö when window suddenly, you accidentally start a private convo with a war target in the enemy fleet, WTF are you supposed to say to him.
me > hi mate, want to buy a 100MN afterburner
war-target > no
me > sorry, just checking
You dare not mention it in gang in case they think youÆre a spy. You dare not tell your CEO because you will be called a nOOB and bear the brunt of jokes for the next few fleet ops
I think the devs are being mischievous leaving the ôStart Conversationö link close to ôShow infoö

yes, happens damn to often  Its the most embarassing when you do it to alliance or corp members that you normally dont talk to that much and their all helpfull and nice.

Yup - happens regularly - particularly seems to happen if you're in hostile space or there's a hostile gang passing through yours
Mind you most people are used to it happening so a quick "sorry mis-click" is understood by both parties.....

I love it when some -10.0 pirate convoes you and then tries to say, "Oh hi, I convoed the wrong person..." or somesuch. Comedy.

yeh 'sorry i thought you were someone else' gets a little old after a while.
a messagebox should still come up even when cspa charge is 0 isk, OR, move the start convo FAR away from show info..
course, life would be easier if local chat had same colours as overview so you could see your war targets without show info'ing everyone

Remove Show info from the right click menu and have it on double click only.
I've accidentally convo'ed loads of prey,
It usually ends up with me logging off and relogging before they accept the convo.
Move Show info or Start Converstation or do something. |
