Retribution is a very nice ship and would be the best assault ship in the game with a second midslot. The only bad thing is that the powergrid isnt sufficient to fit a full rack of medium beam lasers without two MAPC.
When it comes to PVE the retribution is probably the best assault frigate since it can both tank very well and dish out serious damage at the same time. Just chuck a thermic hardener on.

The amarr arent underpowered.

I am ashamed that the starter of this thread is an Amarrian.
He should be taken out and shot by the Imperial Guard.
A Golden Fleet is one of the most awesome sights in EVE and can compete very successfully in combat - as has been proven time and time again by PIE (who only fly Amarr ships) and the CVA.
People just do not use them as creatively as they can be used. Take the Arbitrator and the Omen for instance - when used properly they are amongst the most deadly cruisers in the game.
If you don't believe me just ask the Ushra'Khan about how they love our cruiser fleets 
And when it comes to battleships the Armageddon and the Apocalypse are both supremely flexible and can be used successfully in a variety of roles.

The Retribution can safely handle 0.0 battleship NPC Spawns... uhhh... so a friend told me
The Retribution can also be made to be one of the most devastating damage dealers of all the assault frigates when fitted correctly, as well as with 5 lows, can be made to tank like hell.
The sacrilege is probably the best tanking ship in the game when set up right, it makes probably the most durable, hardwearing and evil support ship in game, as well as that it now has turret damage bonuses rather than launcher rof bonuses, if i'm not mistaken.
The geddon wasn't nerfed. It still has insane damage potential, or if you want to, it still produces an evil dual rep tank.
You're obviously doing something wrong if you can't find a way to set up ANY of these ships effectively.
