As of late there has been a big influx of new gamers coming mainly from games like WoW and EQ2 that come on the forums after playing Eve for a couple of weeks complain about the games Full PvP mentality and demand sweeping changes from the Devs. I'm a new player myself and I have to admit three weeks ago I was probobly onboard, I just didn't get why PvP has to be so.. in your face. Why you couldn't simply play in an area of the game and be safe. Since then I have played Eve and gotten involved in PvP and other aspects of the political spectrum of the game, like running corps and all the conflict that goes with it. Not only did I realize that Full unfiliter PvP is nescessery and at the heart of Eve but I also realized that this game is in fact designed primarily for PvP players that have run out of games to play, in fact at the moment there are no games with this level of PvP.
Well for those of you that didn't listen to the Eve Radio show live from Vegas last night, let me tell you. The game ain't changing. The Devs that make the decesions have ensured us with 100% certainty that not only will this game always be full pvp but they have in mind at least 6-7 more expansions that focus solely on keeping corp wars, PvP, pirating and all the things that come with it alive and healthy in the game. The only new PvE content that is even in the works right now are some additional base installations that players can raid, but it was obvious from the interview that this is a very small portion of the plans and has absolutly no priority. It may not even make it into the expansion.
For all you carebears out there, its time to throw in the towel. Come join the PvP community and take part in what is in everyway a game that caters to Player Vs. Player competition. Tired of getting ganked? Well then, start fighting back, starting ganking back!!

yeah also more complexes and ability to own them, and yeah this is a MMO and more like a FPS combat wise and ppl who dont get it next time read about the game before you buy it, guess ppl are still out there buying games for the cover then realise the game aint for them! also ppl who whine about pvp game etc read about it its not unbalanced and the game is a team game not solo pvp solo pve solo corp's, dont like ppl? then get a freakin singleplayer and yeah Las Vegas event was great and devs actually did a great job on the show props to best community friendly game company I ever seen

A good note to make would be that CCP use PvP as a term loosely.
Player versus player competition is what they refer to with it. And yes, Like I've probably said another 5o times in silly threads during the last week alone, Eve is and always will be a basic darwinistic competition between players.
But, it's good that the devs say so once in a while, it shuts the opposition up for a bit and my fingers get some rest

Heh. I think its hilarious that anyone would be of the opinion that PVP is the "be all end all" of the game. Who cares? if you like PVP do pvp. If you like PVE do pve. STFU and do waht you like doing.
If the Dev's truly are that hyperfocused on PVP theya re taking a wild shift from their original game concept, which is to create a whole universe with politics, economy, urban centers and wild frontier. It sort of defeats that balance to ONLY focus on development for PVP combat. It makes the game shallow, and not much better than most mindless shoot em up games.
Besides Ive heard about all sorts of improvements which have nothing to do with PVP combat, comet mining, upgradeable outposts, system wide asteroid belts, etc they are in the DEV blogs, btw as possible future features.

I think the point that the Devs were making is that all things lead to the road of PvP. Comet mining effectivly is used to make ships and items that will ultimatly get blown up in pvP. Upgradable outposts are there so that players can more effectivly defend soverty and obvously to make a bigger better weapons. System wide asteroids etc.. all in the same forum.
Every single item and every single action in the game ultimatly comes back to PvP.

You can do better than that. Think about it. Player driven Politics, Player driven Economy, etc, etc. Was the first thing that attracted me to this game on release day, not NPC dominated political & economic systems. So no, they are not taking any wild shifts anywhere, quite the opposite. They are staying true to the vision that they first saw.

I'm not a hardcore combat pilot. PvP is the wrong word to use. It conjures up the wrong images of me shooting another player in a ship.
Say instead, player led. The economy. The politics. The market. The storyline. These are all player led. It means I don't have to follow whatever quest has been set up for me. It's freedom.
PvP implies fighting other players. That's entirely wrong. EVE is about _interacting_ with other players. OK, so that _might_ be fighting them. Or it might be building an outpost, and inviting them to come and trade. Or negotiating access to a region. The important point is that I can make deals, and I do have the ability to 'react' if they go wrong.
In most MMOs if I make a deal with another faction, there's a) no real consequence to it anyway, and b) no real sanction I can bring. In EVE, it's entirely the opposite. If we make a deal, and it gets broken, then I have a lot of options for what to do about it.
And that's what it's all about. Not that I have to fight other players, but that I have the choice and ability to do so, if other options are exhausted. -- We are recruiting

well its time to reeducate those WOW players - because its a different game and there is no leveling as terms of highest level u can get blown up and if no clone youre buggered.

Your post is entirely contradictory.
Politics is all about PvP.
Economy is pure PvP between manufacturers.
Urban centers is ALL about market PvP.
Wild frontier is political PvP and combat PvP.
Mining is market PvP.
Upgradable outposts is in 0.0, and thus directly related to combat and political PvP.
How is anything you described not PvP?
Because nothing in EVE is instanced, and the vast majority of items are sold by players, there is very little in terms of activites that aren't PvP in one way or another.

No! Stop killing each other you are only funding the maga corps that provide clones. They alter your clones DNA to become more agressive so you are more likely to kill or be killed.

NPC sources provide assets in order to PVP (that is about it) in one way or another assets are used to blow ppl up.

then plese please please CCP if a person in a NPC corp (starter corps) like SAKs etc. If they have been there for longer than 3 months (total in game) this gives noobs time ot train up but once they have been active for 3 months allow us to pay concord (this will help us blow up macroers to) pay a 10 mil ISK per day fee that enables us ot have a 1 man war dec on NPC corp members whos mains have been in game longer than 3 months (to avoid the use of exploits killing NPC scouts and regenerating) make it the main in terms of days ingame
Then if we pay that fee we can attack said NPC corp players as well. This will force a lot of em to abandon their Carebear ways and at least join a player corp.
Either way we need a way of someone older than 3 months of being able to kill em (also members of corps that leave due to war dec's) this will enable invidiaul members (not corps tho) to take out a concord contract and hunt em down.
If u want PVP this is a great idea and will make bounty hunting more of a good thing (tho if u have a war dec on a NPC corper make the search agent take 30 minutes to deliver a result instead of 10

Edited by: Methuselar on 17/03/2006 12:03:05 Personally I think EVE is an MMORPG. PvP fighting is the most frank and common way in most fiction/fantasy to solve conflicts. In MMORPGs, PvP is OKay at any level, if it is in-game-profit-driving. EQ and WOW sux in PvP cos ppl got no real in-char profit to kill-they have no reason to fight(For those stupid stats in WOW).
There is alwayz some guy see PvP in MMORPG a mark of skill and gain achievement in just fighting...Why they don't play FPS instead? Cos what they claim aloud in MMORPGs is what they lack in FPS...skill or just Valor.

1 Interview; 100,000 interpretations.
Can CCP provide a reclarification or update on their definition of PvP as it relates to their view of the game We have some people applying it to the game as a whole (I believe this is correct) and some to just ship to ship combat. I think this would be helpful in settling some repeated posts and discussions.

jeeez, i bet you think waking up in the morning is pvp
stop twisting the term to suit your needs
PVP is a term DIRECTLY associated with FIGHTING, not building, not mining, not trading. The term had this association for many many years before a few spin docters decided to give it a new spin.
-PVP is an act between players involving FIGHTING -Mining is a PVE thing -Building is a result of mining, but the MARKET is a result of players wanting to BUY things. The market is driven by PVP and PVE activities, so it is not just a PVP thing.
IF you can read, and ever seen the games description, it says it has a PVP element, no where does it say Eve is only PVP.
