What if I do understand it and am annoyed but I also find it tedious and wish CCP would just answer already?
Consider it a ven diagram :)
I am happy with the situation as it is (I despise lotteries but thats not the issue) and I find it tedious, so we are both in the "Finds it tedious" circle. *** Vote MTU For CSM *** "They feel the need to cover their ears and eyes in horror at your very presence." --áPontianak Sythaeryn Omnis nomiom nom nom nomi |

Tried Forum and Google search but couldn't find a trace of an apology or even an attempt to revert CCPs wrongdoings.
Considering it has been a more severe dev misconduct than T20, I must have missed it somehow.
Apologies if the respective search engines didn't come up with the correct topic, but I'm sure someone can point me to it :). How the **** has this been worse dev issue that T20. Blowing out of all proportion or what. Get your head out of your arse and grow up.
Oh and just to be clear, the T20 issue affected EVERYONE on the server.
The Somer issue affects Somer and people who care about such things. Somer made cash on a legitimate process at the time, which is no longer legitimate.
CCP can't take the money back or anything like that as they didn't give it to him so they can't do much more.
SomerBlink still provides a service to people who enjoy it and those that don't due to whatever religion mumbo jumbo or personal experience don't play it then you won't be upset.

Nevyn Auscent wrote:Did they get advantage in the past by taking best advantage of CCP's generic policies. Sure, no argument there, did they abuse CCP, no argument there either. But they did it within the rules (Unless someone can prove Dev collusion rather than just tin foil hat because someone else got something shiny). But so could anyone else have gotten themselves into the same position, Somer simply used the tools well.
Using in game accounts for business purposes has always been aginst the rules. It's pretty hard to argue that an operation reported to have brought in over $135K is not a business (this goes way beyond covering monthly server costs). It is also interesting that CCP went silent on the matter about the time the news of these earnings broke.
So yes, I will argue that Somer clearly broke the rules. I have no evidence of dev collusion, but whether there was or not is hardly requisite to identifying Somer's operation as an EULA violation. A violation which I should point out typically earns an immediate ban for all associated accounts. So while there may be no evidence of direct collusion, there is plenty of evidence to imply favorable treatment over others. Why a switch on/off? Because the new animation doesn't add anything to gameplay and it's graphically annoying. In other words, it's worse than bad: it's useless. Simple as that.-á-á-á-á-á - Kina Ayami |

I find all the "Somer madness" to be in the same vein as "Grrr Goons" to be honest. Sorry you can't come up with something better and have an entitlement mentality. I hope CCP doesn't add any more flame to the fire personally. I can think of a few ideas for starters:
"We screwed up; we never should have given away such rare and valuable prizes in a manner that let a third party dictate who could particpate, let alone allow a third party to choose the winners."
"We screwed up; we should have realized that such a giveaway could be controversial, and we should have run it by the CSM before it was announced, instead of letting it become a PR nightmare. From now on, we will run such third party giveaways by the CSM prior to taking action, so that the CSM can act as the safeguard against the appearance of dev favoritism like they were originally intended to be."
"We screwed up; we shouldn't have given "recognition" behind closed doors, with no clearly defined criteria as to what would qualify a group or individual for such recognition. Doing so in such a secretive manner gives a strong appearance of impropriety at the very least. Here is our new list of requirements for such recognition, which from now on will always be given publicly."
"We screwed up; we never should have favored one site over other similar sites by providing them with prizes which would drive customers to their site and away from their competitors; this is interferring in the market, and as impartial referees it was wrong for us to do. Going forward, all sites who wish to participate in such events may do so, and here is the new application process..."
"We screwed up; we should have at least given a cursory investigation into an organization's history and financials before partnering with them and vouching for their record of reliability. Now that we have learned that SOMER Blink is in fact a real-life for profit business, all player accounts associated with the SOMER Blink corporation and organization will be banned in accordance with the EULA rules concerning the use of EVE game accounts for business purposes."
"Oh, here's that dev blog we promised months ago."
"Oh, and here's the survey regarding what gifts players find acceptable that we promised months ago as well."
"Where we really screwed up is just going silent on the whole matter and halting all communication with our paying customers. Our customers are important to us, and in the interest of transparency, you deserve a full explanation. Especially given our past track record, such transparency is the only way for us to maintain and restore trust, confidence and respect. With that in mind, here is what happened, here is what will happen, and this is how we will prevent such problems in the future..." Why a switch on/off? Because the new animation doesn't add anything to gameplay and it's graphically annoying. In other words, it's worse than bad: it's useless. Simple as that.-á-á-á-á-á - Kina Ayami |

From the Massively article published on October 10, 2013...
Quote:After a few days of fan caterwauling, CCP has issued a lengthy and detailed response built to clarify what happened, why it happened, and what it means. First, CCP explained that the Ishukone Watch Scorpion is a promotional item with no value beyond that which is created by its rarity. The studio also noted that only 132 ships exist, all of which were handed out by CCP to community contributors. CCP explained that giving away the ships to fansites and contributors was meant to be a continued initiative but is now on hold.
CCP also clarified a few things about the SOMER.Blink giveaway specifically, noting that the secrecy mandate was issued by a SOMER staffer and not by CCP itself and that the size of the SOMER giveaway was bigger than that of previous giveaways because of the larger size of the SOMER.Blink staff. The studio concluded by explaining that it is not happy with the way things turned out and that it is pausing all plans for in-game rewards for third-party contributors while it works out how to thank community members without upsetting the economy (or player perception of that economy). In line with this, CCP basically maintains that they happily support third party initiatives until people cry about it, at which point they abate their support and wait for these sorts of things to simply blow over.
Seems par for the course on everything to be perfectly honest. |
