So, I had my first pirating adventure the other day. During the good old fashioned belt hunting, I came across a Caracal.
I quickly locked on to him (as fast i can with my ferox..) and dispatched him within seconds, he then proceeds to just sit there in his pod. Me being the nice guy I am, decide not to pod him, and let him be on his way.
Wrong choice. Within seconds he's filling up local with 'achren is pk'ing' etc.. no smacktalk (he saved that for an eve mail, something about my epeen), but it did make some people chase me around the system until my timer expired.
My question is, do you pod people to get them out of local, or just because you can. The way I _was_ looking at it was that i've got the loot, and podding them wasnt going to benefit me. Well that's all changed. _______________________________________ Of course I brought everything I need.

There you have it, the reason for podding people besides when you have a nice gate camp setup, you dont want people to live and scare of other people.

Podding people is fun and means they don't abuse you in local (evemail instead lol).

Reasons to pod: -Gets them out of local -Fun -Corpse -Killmail
Reasons not to: -It's mean (boohoo) -Sec hit (doesn't matter if you are outlaw or in 0.0)

At the eve gathering in Vegas, someone asked the Devs about extracting implants from corpses and what not (Think it was SNIGG actually), and they said they don't want to encourage people to pod...
Am I playing a different game? In my 3 years of playing this game, I don't think I've ever been a part of a kill (aside from large fleet battles) that we didn't try to pod the guy... I've never been killed in fights where I wasn't targeted for a good poding.
You pod because you can really. Keeps the implant market fresh and vibrant :).

I don't target pods. Well, unless maybe there's a huge bounty, then I might consider it. But as a matter of course, I let the pod flee.
Podding always struck me like kicking a puppy. ---

Edited by: Sabastien Dargot on 17/03/2006 20:23:39 I was the victim of a ******* pirate for the first time the other day.
Even with insurance, refitting a ship cost me a mil at least. the only good thing to come of it was a bounty hunter jumped in right afterwards and killed the little thieving ******.
Is the trick to insure for alot more than the ship is worth? How do you guys kill/be killed so much and not go broke?

If I have just destroyed someones ship there was a good reason for it. That same reason will apply to the pod, it will be targeted and destroyed. I would only leave a pod if it wasn't 'legal' to fire upon (hi-sec ore thief for example).

Edited by: Golden Helmet on 17/03/2006 20:40:18 i ALWAYS pod when i can (EDIT: unless i think i might get a good ransom, forgot to point that out ). If i'm being pounded by their buddy and i have no time to pod, then that pod's free to go. if the pod warps out, i might try and find it, but otherwise it's free. But if i get a lock on a pod and get my scram on, that pod is toast. My reasons:
- Gives them a reason to learn to get that pod out quicker - No smacking in local. I like to work in as much secrecy as possible, and having someone screaming "OMG GH is a pirate!" isnt very helpfull. - The sec hit - Hopefully some hate mail - The corpse for my collection - The squish
Bring on the pod's!
Don't worry, your sig is safe...wait...oops. --Jorauk |

I pod when I can, I probe the pods of players that have logged off in combat on me, infact its one of the only times I get those damm things to work.
As to why I pod?
To be honest, Ive never really thought of it, apart from when Im camping a system and need to keep local clear I really have no other reason to pod...I just do.
If I can get it scrambled and ransom it, then thats fine. But if im solo and tanking sentry guns if I get a lock I squish it.
Now that I actually have thought of it, I just pod from habit...I cant help myself, filthy habit tbh, should really stop....but I cant

I think podding is pretty balanced actually. If I get podded, I just smile and think "one day that ebil pirate will be grinding NPCs to get that sec status back"
Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can say 'noob' at will to old ladies. There is a pestilence upon this land. Nothing is sacred. |

Scratch the self-righteous coating from most carebears and you'll soon see the crude, IQ challenged vulgarian lurking beneath.
Pod them, pod them quickly and save yourself the inconvenience of ignoring their abuse in local.

Pod them. Pod them to get them out of local. Pod them to hear the squish. Pod them because you are a dedicated griefer.
Make any excuse you need to feel comfortable with yourself, but for the love of "insert diety name here" just pod them. --------------

The only reason not to pod is security status concerns. Anyone who complains that podding is mean, nasty, and griefing is playing the wrong game.
- Podding removes an intel source.
- Podding (usually) removes a tactical threat from the combat zone.
- Podding is the only way to collect a bounty.
- Podding will often cause far more logistical harm to an enemy than merely destroying their vessel.
Hearing the squish, annoying "carebears," whatever else are all fine and good on some level I suppose, but the simple fact of the matter is that podding has directly beneficial tactical results for the podder.

Meh, maybe this is maturity speaking, but I don't really see the need to flame when you pop a ship or get popped. Only time I think I'd possibly smack someone after I lost a ship, would be if it was due to friendly fire, or something equally as wtf.
No need to pod me to avoid smacktalk, really.
Not that I plan to stick around long enough after losing ym ship to get popped unless you're smartbombing the bejesus out of me.

Tbh, the only reason *not* to pod someone is if you don't want the sec. hit.
Or if you are ransoming the pod, I guess. But then, I'm not a pirate.

Smacktalk should just stay between friends, its best that way...ya know, you casn really get the good cutting remarks in
I wrote out a few remarks to corpmates as examples but as I said those things should stay in corp:)

Tonight we had someone complaining about their friend being podded. Aside from the previously mentioned reasons, I gave the complainer another reason.
Because we're pretty nice guys.
I mean, you got podded, now you don't have to warp around in your pod, which saves you a lot of time if you don't have instas. ALSO! You avoid the humiliation of flying in your pod and being seen by someone. I know I don't want to be seen in my pod.
HOW EMBARRASSING!!!
So really, you pod because you are empathetic. HAHA!

I think the problem arises when you take implants into account.
People need to appreciate that implants are a luxury and not needed to play the game, Many Moons ago in The Fountain alliance , an alliance member got podded by a freindly alliance corp (Alliance miscommunication) The victim then began pressing charges for 380 mills worth of lost implants. I say it was his own dumbass fault for cruising around with implants in wartime. but they still tried pushing for it. to this date he's not recieved a dime and I hope he doesn't have anymore implants in his head.
Pod For the win, I'd Pod My own mother if she played EvE !
