It's a good plan for hit and run targets of opportunity - but I hope your rich enough to fund your pirating as flying a ship like that will never pay for itself.
If you can get a 2nd account (hell - if your rich enough to lose force recons frequently you could fund the 2nd account with buying time codes) and train it for cov ops, scout targets and warp to the enemy in whatever ship suits (blaster thron would be an obvious choice).
Now a 10 ship fleet of force recon ships - that'd a different matter and would be a serious brown pants moment if you all uncloaked in front of me :)

Check the stats again. 1 nos drains the cap required to sustain 1 neut.

3 x 720mm II covert cloak
2 x nice target painters 2 x 20km scram web [28km range] passive targetter [for fun]
sml armor rep II 800 plate of some type wcs/gyro II ... whichever RCU
4 medium drones
.... not actually tested yet, still looking for appropriate target .. but I have a feeling should do ok :)

The only way I can see a Rapier's bonus being useful is when used in tandem with the Arazu. It makes little sense having that much web range when realistically you're never going to decloak more than 10km from people when you're solo.
Sure you could decloak 19km away and scramble/web from there, allowing howitzers to track better. But if you skip a jam cycle you're a dead man - being in a Battleships optimal in a paper armor ship isn't a good thing.

720's will instant if not almost instant pop a inty/frig with painter bonus. If you don't fly the ship don't comment on it. Why you would uncloak and snipe a frig or BS (Hopefully you didn't mean decloak snipe a BS) in front of a BS I have no clue.
btw rapier can fit a 1600mm plate with auto's. Not to mention has a nice drone bay. Rapier is by far the best imo. It's a true hybrid and I thank whoever designed the ship as well concept. Gave me a true solo ship to fly around in *bows to the ship gods*

I see nothing wrong with commenting/asking questions about a ship class that you've got your sights on. Yes, I can't fly them yet. But i'm damned close.
But hey, I guess Famine Aligher'ri killed the cat, NOT curiosity.

It's not a bad idea, or a bad plan, but the price is just to much risk vs. reward.
400 x 100, only 33.49 kbs. It meets the reqs.

HIGHS 2 X Diminishing NOS 1 X 50W Neut 1 X Cloak
MIDS 1 X 90% webber 2 X 20km Scrambler 1 X ECM Burst 1 X Multispec
LOWS 2 X 400mm Plate 1 X 800mm Plate 1 X Thermic Hardner 1 X Med Rep II
5500 Armour makes a nice little tank for a cloaked cruiser. The dual med rep tank setup listed in many posts is pointless, you cannot sustain it. I realise that your nossing your target but 2 X Nos cant even sustain my neut, let alone a dual rep tank. And once your targets dry?
I tried it and diddnt like it.
The ECM Busrt comes in handy when your being attacked by drones, and it can even break the locks of tacklers that are orbiting too close.
**EDIT** I use 20km scramblers instead of 7.5k's for one simple reason? Ever tried closing in on a moving ship when your max speed is 220 M/S?
That last 13.5km is a loooooong way. 20km's makes things much much easier.
Dude it so does, with 3 nos on your target you will sustain dual med reppers. you just have to be clever with the ecm\tracking dis.
and tbh no wonder it doesnt hold with dual warp disruptors, why on earth are you using them?! that reason just does not make sense, if you cant be patient with that last 13.5km then your guna miss out. You need to be within nos and web range which is generally 10km if they have mwd your kill is long gone.
Most people fit 2 stabs if by the random chance they fit 1 then i guess its worth it but its always generally 2\3\4 stabs.
ecm burst i swear doesnt work v.well
If your really impatient fit a couple nano's but generally you can always take your time with a pilgrim.
best thing i find is waiting till the npc'er has finished one belt and warp with him to the next belt at 20km your right on top.

I've been flying my rapier for over a month now and it absolutely rocks.
HI: Cloak, 3xT2 720's MID: Y-T8 MWD, Painter, 2 web, 30km scramble, Small Gistii SB LOW: 2 gyro II, 2 Tracking Enhancer II's
Drones: T2 and Sentry
Yeah the setup is pricey but so is the ship so why fit junk on it? With the cloak, dual web and mwd if you get caught it's wither down to error or a top effort by those hunting you.
I've killed plenty of AF's, inties and a few cruisers so far without being troubled. I am selective about my targets but if you're not you're going to die.
Dual web to 34km allows you to totally dictate the fight (44km with serp ones). MWD means if you do get snagged - web the tackler and get away (1800m/s). With the base sensor range at over 115km, I will quite happily have a pot shot at barges and frigs with my tremor ammo giving me almost 100km range. In fact I got a barge to low structure at 80km before it went to warp - if I had a sentry drone it would have died (I would have got closer but for the Raven guarding it).
I would like to try the other recons - or fly with a gallente one for the ranged scrambling - but I do feel the web and painting boni are excellent. Nothing more pleasing than seeing an inty stopped and painted up taking big hits from my arties.

Well recon ships are any stealth fighters dream ! its not gone pwn a BS in 1 min but thats not the point. A curse does a better job with damage than a pilgram but a curse doesnt warp cloacked.
Best bet is 2 pairs, maybe a recon + a HAC. Recon creaps up checks whats fitted uncloacks, NOS's, scrambels and turret disrupt / jam the target. The drones + HAC would do the rest.
If played right it is deadly, unfortuantly the room of error is to thin and they are pretty weakly armored. -----------------------------------------------

It really depends on which ship you fly. Rapier on one hand can fit a 1600/medium rep with 180's. 220's it can fit a 800/medium rep. Then with 720's well you can light shield tank if you wish. Then with the new skills rmr brought we can fit nano's that have a good resistance bonus with the right skills as well armor repair drones and other utility. The stock armor on some isn't as great but with plates and the right setup it can tank decent enough if you get caught in it or pvping in it.
Personaly last night I layed support for my fellow blues. I jammed a Scorp and a vexor to try and save a Caracal. Which paid off till for some reason he came back and attack them. Like all of a sudden I can jam a scorp again that easy. Due to my 1600 plate, I was able to tanke the drones enough to lay my support and warp out.

No way. These ships dont need to be nerfed. They have their weaknesses as well as their strengths. They are not overwhelming in firepower. The main advantage with them is the ability to choose the target and terms of engagement. It takes skill and a lot of patience to stalk a target and set up the attack.
I fly a pilgrim. It certainly is not overpowered. Its nice dont get me wrong but the drone bay is a bit small for a dedicated drone ship. I have killed badly set up battlecruisers solo and been run off by well set up battlecruisers. I call that ballanced.
I guess it could take down a BS solo if the BS was asleep and clueless. I certainly wouldnt take on a Raven or Dom solo. The pilgim is vulnurable to Drones and Missiles. As most BS's have drones and/or missiles taking on a BS solo is a dangerous endever. It is limited to using medium drones because its drone bay size is severly restricted. I guess you could use 3 heavies but then you are going to be vulnurable to frigates.
These ships offer pilots something that has been severly lacking in this game, the ability to actually hunt your targets instead of just sitting on a gate and ganking them. Which we all know takes very little skill and is extreamly boring.
A good Pilgrim set up:
H: 3 med dim nos, CO cloak M: 2 7.5k scrams, web, 2 Tracking disrupter II's L: 1 AR II, 1 named AR, 800mm plate II, 2 active T2 hardners.
Can drop one scram for another tracking disrupter if you want. No one can hear you scream in space, so STFU and die already. |

Hmmmm you wouldnt take on a raven or domi ... tested this ship out .. a raven with tech2 torps or cruise does not do enough damage to the ship to take it down because of its limitless supply of cap .. the domi's drones may do enough damage if you couldnt just pop its drones in seconds then drain its ass ... the only weakness I can see is if you take on a ship that has more than 3 heavy nos on .. but even then its its only a stale mate situation .. thats if u dont have a 30k warp jammer and then u can sit outside there nos range ....

They don't have enough DPS to really be a threat to BS's unless like someone said they're "Clueless". It's good for cruisers, frigs, new BC pilots, and hac pilots. I havn't really been defeated in my setup vs any frig or cruiser but that's pretty much how it is if I go standard cruiser with more DPS. Most of the setups will be nerfed once the new EW comes out with the Wow "Cooldown" weakness =)

On the subject of extravagent pirating ships, I think the Astarte would be amazing.
It deals damage like nothing I've ever seen before.
Would hurt to lose though. But over 800 DPS with T2 ammo, plus drones, and a shockingly good tank... I don't know if there is any T1 ship it could not kill 1v1.

Don't be fooled, Recon ships are actually quite fragile, at the very least the Gallente ones are, they can't hold much of a tank and will die very quickly under fire. Thats why you have EW :P
There are much more effective ships for pirating than Recon cruisers -----
Hi TomB! All out Do or Die Blasterboat for tier 3 Gallente battleship please! Make it look cool too. Thanks. |

I should point out that warping into a belt cloaked is risky; any one of those asteroids can decloak you. Especially the big Veldspar ones.
Ironic, isnŠt it, pirates? Being decloaked by the very roids you are trying to protect...

Even then you get decloaked sometimes. Veldspar can get pretty big, and more often than not, you find yourself too near to the belt than at a comfy position away from it. 100km reduces the chance, but in no way eliminates it.

I see all the talk about the pilgrim, any suggestion on the falcon or even the rook
I have recently got both and was wondering on the feeling of them as pirates ships. I have used the rook in fleet ops and was great at jamming most things but can fit plenty of ecm, webs and scrams and fit an 800mm and med armor rep in low. In highs you can have cloak and heavy launchers and small blasters or autocannons. The falcon obviously is better for sneaking up but does even less damage
You certainly should be able to jam them but do enough damage I am not sure, any help or suggestions most welcome

I personally have seen several force recon pirates since they were released. I personally can't fly them but in general I have noticed several things.
The biggest is the real lack of damage output. We have had several members attacked by force recon ships, none of the pirates have even come close to killing their targets within a reasonable time.
However once they see the interceptors and battleships popping up on scanner... local slowly filling up... they manage to slip away pretty quickly with their recon ships intact.
They don't seem to be the "ultimate pirate ship" because they have some serious drawbacks. However if you focus yourself on low-key systems and go for unexperienced players you could probabaly make out pretty well.

In a gang of 2 they would be good, one recon ship finding target and one hac sitting waiting for the warp to me command should easily take down any BS, especially if your in a falcon with jammers webs and scrams and some nos

Just curious about this setup.
In the past I have used a mostly passive shield tanked minmatar battlecruiser (aka no cap to maintain shield restances) a nos webber and lots of AC's and heavy missiles (FOF) and some drones.
Not knowing how much damage a his TII drones do..but i would think that T2 ACs with decent skills would kill his drones before they could destroy my tank... and maybe my FOF missiles will actually hit as well.. and once his drones are dead all he can do is warp off...
just wondering if if passive tanked BC with T2 guns and FOF missiles couldnt beat this setup..atleast minmatar dont need cap to fire ...dont know how hard the drone hit for though .
