Some ships are good for pvp, some ships are for pve, some ships are good for both...some better than others. All ships have a function even if it is just for collection, but AF's are definately not pointless or just hangar candy.

That is not a bad tank setup but this one is better.
x4 125mm II's x1 Arb standard launcher x1 Gisti a-TYPE, x1 em II PAssive hardner, x1 Web, x1 Medium shield ext. II X2 Power Diag's II
When all is said an done it get over 70 shields each boost (includingf passive regen) hasw 2144 shields and 50%/60%/70%/80% resistances with em compensation to 5. with tech 2 spike ammo can hit out to 50 km. Its a great ship.

AFs are awesome anti-tackler ships. Unfortunately they are only useful for this in smallish engagements where range makes it hard for larger and better anti-tackler ships (like the Eagle) to kill interceptors.

They are pretty much the bastard children of eve. They have no role in pvp. Although in PvE they are great.

Armor plates add mass, shield extenders add sig, and not even a lot of sig (think a med extender 2 adds 7 to sig).

Yep, that setup can usually withstand an interceptor attack very well. Of course, I did nail one of those setups...but I needed a special fitting to do it (hint: neuts are fun!) which didn't directly confront the tank and the fight started at 10km.

I'm saying that even WITH the faction mod, 1v1 a ceptor can still figure out a way to win. In a 2v2, my setup would have been worthless. AF's are group ships, plain and simple.

Its also pretty stupid reasoning to say that AFs are good because of an overpowered faction mod.
Your harpy will still die to pretty much any cruiser, so congrats?

I think the Harpy is the THE best ship I have used so far for 0.0 ratting at least. Mainly becuase it can take out everything from a inty to a BS (Dont believe me? click the link below).. If it is set up correctly then you are good.
I personally use 4 t2 150m's and a arby rocket laucnher in high and even have 2 warp core stabs on (its a pve ship fitting not pvp).. Well worth the time invested.

Sounds like a fun fight i still dont think you would win even with a neut on (assuming it is just one). I think you would be dead long before you could suck the cap out of my ship and or beat through 2144 resisted shields. So i doubt you went against the same setup.
And to that guy that is talking about the faction mod I just got the gisti a-type and was useing a C5-L before. I havnt actually used the ship since putting it on so my setup was uber before i got it thanks you very much. Faction mods dont make the ship.
I am fully aware that if you know what you are facing there is a counter to it, but rarly do you get the option to outfit specifically for your opponent. If you fit a neut smart thinking on your part.

I Love AF's. Bar interdictors, they're the only small ships i have, and will ever fly. With a properly fitted setup you can take on and kill up to a cruiser 1 on 1. And with the right situation and gear can take on up to 2 interceptors by you're self. More if you're flying an ishkur.
I find that despite the increasing cost of these ships, they are definately worth using, both for low level missions and for pvp, where in groups they give excellent firepower. And solo they can take on multiple weaker targets with no great difficulty.

Style over substance :)
The wolf is one of the best looking ships in the game, yes its pretty pointless as an inty makes a better tackler and a cruiser makes a better anti-support ship. But every so often just once in a while mind you, with 40km range and lots of targets it reminds you why you bought it....other than to look cool :P

af pontless?
i dun tink so lets compare wolf and claw.
wolf can run 4*280 t2's + some2 dmg mods or even 3 total dmg mod: 16-17 rof round 5.6 sec burst damage can get upto 300-400 per gun CAN TANK
Claw: 3*280 t2 + no dmg mods since fitting problems : total dmg mod 19-20 rof 8 sec burst damage can go upto 300-400 CAN NOT TANK

Af's are great for pve... They have niche role in pvp, like hunting in wolfpacks when durability is needed...
Other than that, for any AF setup, I can think of a t1 cruiser setup that costs half as much and will kill that af... Ison's notches |

If you're fitting 3 dmg mods and anything in mids, you'll have to fit a co-pro. The claw with a co-pro can fit a similar setup, with 2 gyros and 1 tracking enhancer. You can fit basicly the same tank (modwise) on 280 wolf as you can on 280 claw. If you fit both ships with 280's, wolf will have the least pg left (~13 vs ~15), but the most cpu (~110 vs ~90).

I think a decent destroyer would knock you on your keister.

now I'm no PvPer, so I could be wrong... but from what I've seen flying my Ishkur, I can't see how any solo interceptor could stand up to it if piloted even half competently, unless it was like fitted SPECIFICALLY to counter what the ishkur does.
I can't see how it'd be able to lose to a destroyer either.

Most people greatly underestimate the tanking ability of a intercepter(Claw) set-up for 1v1 combat.
