I totally understand where you are coming from, and this is why.
Whenever on gatecamp there is a fastlock role. In a stiletto I can sit at anywhere from 5,000-7,000 scan resolution. That puts everything at an insta to 0.2 second lock time.
At that point, what you are fighting is EvE Ping.
Usually my ping is at 160-180ms, which is terrible compared to some of the UK friends of mine (pings of 3-20). Sometimes when I lock someone, there is no delay and it is instantaneous. Sometimes it will flash "locked" for a few more pieces of a second, and I "lose" to EvE ping basically.
If by chance someone like me came to the gate in a cloaky hauler, and had to play the luck game vs someone in a stiletto with 6k scan res, and a significantly lower ping, for example, chances are I am going to lose and get caught.
By the time I have pressed my cloak, there has been enough time in a delay within eve's ping, that I would get caught by the guy with 100-150 less ping than myself.
I caught a crane the other day for this very reason.
sometimes things will get away from me, but in the hands of someone in the UK, I am pretty sure most of us would get caught... I'd be toast

This is why hotkeys are bad, and mouseklicking is the way to sucess! :)
Then you got the time-delay while you move the cursor around :) |

You don't have to guess the server tick. As long as your computer receives the button presses in the right order it will work perfectly. I would suggest that the reason you are getting locked more before cloaking since Rubicon is actually related to the interceptor changes. Currently, the high scan res interceptors mentioned by ilovetomine are the only way to have a chance of catching interceptors. Therefore instalock inties are now a necessary part of most defence fleets, where they used to be a very situational ship. |

A covops ship (Prowler, as stated) does not have this kind of recloaking delay. Neither do the regular cloaks for Deep Space Transports after a fresh gate jump.

You don't have to guess the server tick. As long as your computer receives the button presses in the right order it will work perfectly. Simply not true. Try it, jump gate and press align, then immediately press the 'cloak' module hotkey -- you will get a 'you cant because you are cloaked (gate cloak)' message and your cloak won't activate. You have to wait a mystical 1/2 or full second guesstimate between the time you push align, to when you can successfully activate your cloak -- so the server and UI have had a chance to resync on the fact you are no longer gate cloaked.... this is horseshit, a bad mechanic, and CCP should feel very bad about it...

Sirinda wrote:CCP Falcon wrote:Click faster Keep clickin'. See what I did there? Nope. Because there is also a lag between when server processes a cloak request and your cloak module goes 'green' to indicate successful cloak, so you get the fabulous behavior sometimes of the cloak actually firing server-side but while you stare death in the face with 2 Stilleto's and 10 other sundry ships camping gate, you press cloak a second time to only find out the first click was actually processed and your second just de-cloaked yourself...
So not only do you have to guess when to press the F#$)(#ing cloak module the first time (somewhere between when align and gate gloak drop and that Stiletto insta-points you...), but if you do press it a second time because its still not showing green/active you can actually be de-activating the module...
Users manually timing cloak module activations with server ticks...WHAT FUN!
Here's an idea, how about the F#)($#ing cloak module goes into a yellow color when activated and it is still negotiating with the server to get the ship actually cloaked. The UI keeps re-issuing cloak requests until successful behind the scenes, then the module goes green.
This way you can jump gate, hit align and IMMEDIATELY hit your cloak button -- confident it will fire 'as soon as possible' without manual timing, OR threat of a second request click actually decloaking you.
