So i'm browsing books here at my local library in Australia, and what do I find out of the blue? "Eve The Empyrean Age" by Tony Gonzales The library has actually reduced the number of books available over the years cos of the internet, and so this was a surprise.
I promptly borrowed it, was wondering though, is it a good read or would I have been better off reading Pinocchio?? Evelopedia;-á

Never not read Pinocchio. Its a classic.
But why cant you read both? The worst that happens is you don't like it but you still read something instead of being a TV zombie, the best that happens is you freakin love it and want more. Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings? |

its okish, just stay away from that burning life eve book. The templar one book conbtinues the story of the emperian age book and is also okish. There a better books out there, but also worse :) |

I have yet to read all of the great classics because I figure if I ever end up in prison, that'll be the best chance to really enjoy them.

500 pages?! So many books are released now that have less than 300 and cost around 7-9 US. Really sad to be honest. I agree with the other guy, it is better to read something than to sit around watching tv. You actually use more brain power staring at a blank wall than watching tv. Especially with what is on. I bought it back in 07 shortly after it came out, I got it while at fan fest of all places. I read about 10 pages and put it down. Its currently sitting on my self with another eve book collecting dust. The only reason I did not read it all the way is after I got home I was so busy with stuff that I kinda forgot I had it. By the time I saw it again I was Fully engaged in A Song of Ice and Fire that there was no way in hades I'd add another 500 page book after reading 8k or so pages of that series. But I am reminded that I have it, so I might as well read it. I'll keep it eve if I don't like for my 'eve collection' |

The books are also considered Lore for the most part. So help explain EVE's back story and some behind the scenes stuff our characters wouldn't have seen. |

You may sit there reading Tolstoy and scribbling notes in the margins chronicling your feelings about poor Ivan Ilyich and his exchanges with Praskovya, but the rest of us are generally less pretentious than that. |

I read it a few years ago when it was released. I enjoyed it, especially as an Eve player. While it's not Isaac Asimov or Arthur C. Clarke, I'd consider it a step above most of those Star Wars books.

I read it while deployed aboard an aircraft carrier. So yeah almost like a prison. It's not bad and if you like EVE lore at all you have a decent chance of enjoying that book and it's sequel. As mentioned above, it's so much better than the drivel they try to spoon feed you on TV any way.

All across Australia books are being destroyed if they haven't been borrowed in ten years, they are converted to data and stored on the web. Some libraries are like kids bookshelves now i swear.

It's a good book, it gives details of the minmatar taking on concord and ammar and slaves being freed. The first use of.AOE weapons, the rise of thibus heath (spell check pls).
The burning life is junk. Story of two junkies on the run.

Found it to be a halfway decent read. Didn't really like the way the author made Tibus Heth seem like a (After leading the raid on the Caldari Constructions Factory) simpering buffoon in need of propping up and Jamyl Sarum to be a half - crazed trainwreck pining for "her man". I feel that the lore in general (Including Templar One) could explore a bit further the moral grey areas between the Empires instead of automatically being boring old Amarr/Caldari = Evil, Minmatar/Gallente = Good. Some of the EVE Chronicles bring that aspect out magnificently, so comparing the books to some of the better - written chronicles, I was left a bit disappointed by the books.
Was I supposed to call spoilers on that? Ah, well, too late. |

Actually, people are much easier to control if you only give them the barest information, and make sure they dont want any further sources. *** Vote MTU For CSM *** "They feel the need to cover their ears and eyes in horror at your very presence." --áPontianak Sythaeryn Omnis nomiom nom nom nomi |

That sounds FAR more interesting that some balls about the rich and powerful It's poorly written, predictable, and reads entirely too much like a travel agent's travelogue of New Eden. Can't blame the author - Clearly, the author had marching orders from CCP, and did the best possible, but when Marketting dictates teh plot line, what'cha gunna do?
Would've been a lot better if it hadn't tried to be all things to everyone. Stick to one region, one faction, and one storyline. Yes, that means writing multiple books - Many more. So what? Moar revenue! CCP, debuff Barges, or buff Ganking. Either will do for me, but we need more Yaaar! in this game lest it become WoW in Spaaaaace! -á~ Me |
