Hi everyone,
As promised, CSM8 would like to announce that we will be holding the fourth of a planned six CSM Town Halls during our term.
CSM8 Town Hall #4 will take place Sunday 19 January, at 1900 EVE time.
Following in the footsteps of CSM7 and after being used successfully in our first two Town Halls, we will be continuing to use a dual format for our Town Halls, with them publicly broadcast on EVE Radio during the DJ Wiggles show. This town hall will be 60 minutes in length. As with last time, we're going to devote half the time to questions submitted in advance, followed by the second half where we will take live questions on the EVE University Mumble server, which will be open to the public during the Town Hall. I'd like to express the CSM's sincere gratitude to the staffs of both of these organizations for their continued assistance with this important event, notably DJ Wiggles and Neville Smit of E-UNI.
Neville posted on the EVE University website the instructions for accessing their public Mumble server, and I recommend you take some time to go ahead and read those instructions. http://www.eveuniversity.org/2013/10/uni-to-host-csm8-town-hall-on-november-16-1900-eve-time/
As always with these events, we will take questions from any EVE player (past, present, future) that wishes to participate and we'll do our very best to answer within the constraints of the time of the event and of course the ever-present NDA.
The focus of this particular Town Hall will be the Summer Summit minutes, the upcoming Winter Summit, the current Rubicon expansion, and of course, general questions from EVE players on any topic they desire. For this meeting, in addition to live questions from those of you on the EVE University Mumble, please submit your advance questions to CSM member Ripard Teg.
Barring unforseen accident or emergency, additional CSM Town Hall sessions are planned for: * late February (tentative; after the winter summit meeting); and, * mid April (before the CSM9 elections).
Precise dates and times for these planned Town Halls will be announced by the CSM at a later date.
Hope to see you there! Jester's Trek: wherein I ramble about EVE Online, gaming, and from time to time... life. |

I have a wide question related to one of your latest blog entries.
What does the CSM think, as a group or as a individuals, about the apparent stagnation in the amount of players who log in? The Greater Fool Bar is now open for business, 24/7. Come and have drinks and fun somewhere between RL and New Eden! |

Dear CSM8, thanks for the csm8.org site and it showing more content in 2013 then say Seleene's blog who is more present on the main page's picture of csm8.org, best wishes for 2014!
Concerning 2014: I really hope CCP will still look at any CSM in the future as a representative group of stakeholders that will not be restricted to heavily or have to sign an even worse gag order that might prevent content matter for the CSM member blogs or the minutes.
Concerning CCP transparancy: does the CSM8 believe CCP should not restrict it's concurrent users and subscription numbers to it's stakeholders, the paying subscription customers ?
Concerning gameplay: does CSM8 think blob warfare is bad for the game, and that worthwhile piloting vs pressing F1 is a better reason for logging on into eve online, if so how will the CSM8 see this evolving for nullsec ?
Concerning content: what does the CSM think of the use of live events by CCP more as an eve online promotional tool for expansions or gaming conventions and less as persistent PVE/PVP content for it's current customers ? Eve rule no.1: The players will make a better version of the game, then CCP initially plans.

Would you support the removal of learning implants, especially in terms of improving the new player experience?

In the thread for Town Hall #3, I asked this question regarding the lack of a promised dev response and update regarding the state of the gate jump animation, a visual effect which many find annoying after repeated jumps, and which some players have cited experiencing adverse physical reactions as a result of it. CCP devs acknowledged that it was a problem, requested feedback, and promised to attempt to improve the animation to remove such adverse effects. However, after these initial promises, there has been no further word or update from CCP on this issue. It has now been seven months, with no update or response to any requests for information.
The CSM response to this issue at Town Hall #3 was that Ali Aras accepted the task of following up with the appropriate devs. However, I have not been able to find any published update regarding the results of this follow up, and any questions I have either publicly or privately directed to Ali Aras or the appropriate devs have gone unanswered. So my question for Town Hall #4 is this: was this issue ever followed up, and if so, what was the response?
As players who are affected by this issue, all we really want is the simplest solution possible: an option to disable these graphic effects client side, so that others may still enjoy the visual, but we do not have to suffer its effects if we do not wish to. Other such graphic effects have been given this option within hours of being pointed out to CCP as a problem; why have we had to wait for over half a year without any proper response? Why have other graphics issues recieved helpful and supportive customer service, while this issue has been met with ridicule and derision by both CCP devs and certain CSM members? How is this treatment considered appropriate? Forgive me if I'm going of on a bit of a rant, but frequent headaches and nausea are not an enjoyable part of the EVE experience! I don't think it is unreasonable to expect at the very least a situation update on this issue, especially as improvements were promised and have yet to be delivered.
Again, for reference the relevant thread with dev response and player feedback on this issue can be found here. Why a switch on/off? Because the new animation doesn't add anything to gameplay and it's graphically annoying. In other words, it's worse than bad: it's useless. Simple as that.-á-á-á-á-á - Kina Ayami |

Future of PvE (more detailed version of my pve concerns can be found here)
CCP mentioned that they are working on back-end stuff that would help making PvE much better. -á-áGP¬ we have heard that many times but day-to-day PvE is still the same
Main issues being: Gû¬ you are punished for working together Gû¬ dps is everything (try making isk as tackler / ewar / logi) Gû¬ deadspace prison => you are always alone and never meet anyone (except ninjas)
How confident are you that CCP will manage to bring PvE in EvE up to industry standard in the foreseeable future? |

With the current pace of development, and major issues piling up and getting worse, the terms "gaping chest-wound" and :18months: spring to mind. Judging from the time it took to revamp crimewatch, the long list of issues that are also deemed "hard due to ancient code" and the amount of "other project than EvE", I feel somewhat concerned.
How concerned do you feel about those Issues since you know more details about the :3-year-plan: maybe not at all? |
