or maybe it should be "Yet Another EVE Crashes" (YAEC) thread. I have done extensive testing to see what could cause the problem and have crossed out many potentials but haven't found a reason.
I get instant, no-warning cold reboots usually during the login screen, character selection or during the first few mins of playing. I don't wanna hear anyone saying that "software can't crash XP" (I thought so too) since these boots only happen while playing EVE. It has happened up to 5 times at one sitting at different times of the day, different previous activities and regardless of any background progs (Norton AV and firewall is always running). Maybe the weirdest thing is that sometimes I can logon at the first try and play for hours without any problems.
Potential reasons for the reboots I have excluded: - heat. My case has 3 fans in addition to the ones on the mobo and airflow is good. I even ran a prog to gauge the temperatures and the crashes happened when my processor was relatively cold (37C, game runs perfectly fine at 46). No dust bunnies, either. - sound card. Have disabled sound in EVE, still crashes - memory. Works fine, EVE is the only program that crashes my puter although I play much heavier games without problems (WoW, BF2). - drivers, DirectX, etc. I have updated all my drivers to the cutting edge latest. - any other solution suggested on the forums thus far; I've tried them all.
These reboots are unacceptable. So is the lack of response from CCP since there are numerous people with these same problems and the only people even trying to help us are other players. Since EVE is the only prog that crashes my computer the reason for my reboots is EVE, not some other program or hardware problem. I expect some satisfactory answer from CCP, an acknowledgement that they are working on a solution or at least on finding the culprit.
And yes, I'm petitioning this, as well.
WINXP SP2 (latest updates), ASUS K8N-E Deluxe (on-board sound), Nvidia 6600GT, 1.5g memory, Maxtor 300gb HDD, AMD 3000+.

Oh the terrible crashes.
Well, seems you have done quite a bit to diagnose the problem.
Have you done a full reinstall of EVE?

Nope, haven't done a full reinstall. I'm only 3 weeks old but I guess that's something I should try. I have deleted the cache but that didn't help, either.

Edited by: Darth Schweinebacke on 21/03/2006 13:32:55 how about that...
I just had the same problem since the last patch.. I even got disconnected the second i see my ship being in a station sometimes.... or get disconnected when i jump into a new system... started a diagnostic programm and checked everything and the result: there is nothing wrong with my pc. So i cleaned the cache folder which didnŠt help a bit. Afterwards i decided to reinstall my eve client and now i am slowly getting really angry..
After installing Eve again i started the client and had to notice that version 934 can not even find a server for autopatching... so i went to the webside and downloaded the patch there.. First of all it shows that the patch size is 197 MB but when i download it my firefox tells me that the file size would be more than 250 MB. Still i downloaded it and then tried to patch the client.
As i started the patch programm i got the following msg:
The following error occurred: One or more embedded files are missing
So now it seems like i have to sit another hour in front of my pc to download the full build. It really makes me angry that i have to spend half a day to make a game work again which worked fine until the last patch (ignoring memory leaks and other annoying issues)......

I had this proplem when the client had to render images. What worked for me was to use the old resfaces.stuff file. If you have an intel or ati graphics chipsset then this could be your promblem..
here is the old thread

Try turning auto reboot off in XP so you can see if it's a BSOD and if so go from there.
Control Panel > System > Advanced > Startup and Recovery click Settings > uncheck Automatically Restart under the System Failure section. You may have to reboot for the change to take effect.

I just reinstalled the entire game as suggested. No help: it cold booted at char selection screen. Just last night I was able to play for 3+ hours without any problem, now it's crashed twice in the past 30 mins. Doesn't make any sense and I can't see a pattern or a common denominator anywhere. Really strange.

possible eve.exe is not the cause of the reboots. my computer is rebooting one time without running eve! my viren scanners are not able to find some viruses. I fear somthing in windoofs is crashing. I will try a new windows setup once again.
