Most MMO's have sometype of healing class, like a Cleric or Priest.
True, EvE isn't like that. However you can transfer shields to others, remotely repair armour, logistic drones...ect.
I wondered if a ship, completed rigged for support is usefull. And witch ship would be best for that.. if any.
Thanks

not so true,
they do suck but in pvp... in mission / complexes they are of great use when talking about tanking having a 1k shield or armor /5s bonus not even talking about the tracking bonus or cap bonus.

Why do they suck in PvP? Can they not replace armour/shields fast enough to be worthwhile?

In combat, yes.
If you see a ship repairing another in combat, what are you going to target?

The best way to use a logistics ship would be to tank it to the eyeballs and run a single small remote rep, in the hopes that people would target you and you could tank them for a little bit :)
Really, Battleships do what logistics cruisers do, but better.
There used to be a sig here, but I got bored of it.

What I'm wondering is, if the amount of amour/shield repair is good enough to be worthwhile. If you rig yourself for it, but can't keep someone else alive under fire in PvP, then it's not usefull.
However a ship set up such a way would need to be able to take a pounding, or it's not worthwhile either. And that's sounding like the failing of this here?

They can repair the target's shields/armor fast enough to be useful in small scale combat... Only problem is that they'll be the ones being shot at, not the ship being reinforced. --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |

They make running complexes/annoying level 4 complexes feel like easy mode. So they don't suck. They're just an npcing ship for the most part... --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |

They are too vulnerable thats the problem... They will be called primary right away.. But they work great for support, sitting at a safespot repairing incomming friendly ships.
And they work G R E A T for PvE!

the reason they dont work in pvp, is that they will get targeted right away and die in a matter of seconds when facin large enemie forces.
wel, it also dies fast to a small group of ppl..
the other reason is that when u have a fleetbattle, u dont ahve the time to pick a ship of urs thats damaged and then repair it, the only use for them could b in a safespot waitin for friendly bses to warp into them get repped and warp back into the battle - but tbh, id rather fly another ship and be part of the battle, and a bs that warps out should b able to repair itself good enpough ont he way back in. - Purple Conquered The World, We the Universe.

Here's an idea. Everybody in a small fleet has a remote repair drone or two. These get stuck on a tanked logistics ship. The logistics ship keeps an eye on the gang window (upgrade here please ccp!) and reps whoever is going down first.
Hmm, tempted to delete this post and try it out first :P

Bang on right. If you rep to the level where you're worthwhile as a healing ship, you can't tank. If you tank, you can't rep. Whilst you can repair from *stupid* ranges which gives you some defense via being far away, clever fleet positioning and/or fast ships will simply take you apart.
Logistics ships need a large cap increase, and a seriously larger T2 resistance bonus, and then people might start thinking about training for them and using them. They could also do with a training requirement decrease, tbh. Skills are too high for a ship so narrow in use.
There used to be a sig here, but I got bored of it.

For PvP a full support ship is silly since you can fully expect your enemy to target your support ship first (the remote shield/armor transfer effects are.. quite.. noticeable). For high level complexes or missions the support ship is a common occurrence. These support ships are usually battleships though since they just give more raw cap/shield/armor than logistic cruisers can. Also they're a lot easier to train for. An Apoc with 7 power relays and 4 cap rechargers just produces an insane amount of cap that can be transferred or otherwise used to boost shields or armor. Domi works quite nicely too.

The reason they Suck in PVP is because there is no method of Defending a Ship. Most of the other MMORPG's have ways of doing this:
EQ: Taunt Camelot: Shield Blocking, Taunt, Defend
What Eve-Online needs is a way for heavy tanks or other ships to simply get in the way of another ship being shot (so they take the damage instead). This would be a skill and maneuverings idea, and not really a ship equipment idea (not another form of EW I mean).

What you say is true from PvE.
Most PvP games EX: Shadow Bane / DAOC / WoW (sorta PvP) ..ect Give healers weak offense, above average defense and getaway or survival skill(s). Temporary invincibility, insta-heals, shields, or something of the like. Self-Only insta abilities are generally whats needed for healers in PvP games. You need to buy time for your buddies to get on the ball and help.
Game designers should know that healers die 1st, and healers need a means of dealing with that. Or the group a means of keeping the healer alive inspite of it.
This is great in terms of making PvP skill/team work based rather than just stat/equipment based.

I guess you could take an osprey, could work well in a medium sized group. None is going to make it primary and few will expect you to be shield boosting. Depends if they see the shield boost graphics before it's too late. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i have never flown a logistic ship, and i have no pvp experience, so i am really pulling this out of my ass. but maybe if logistic ships where able to use remote repair and transfer modules while cloaked, it would be ok.
i dont know if it would make them overpowered. they should be very careful as to not come closer than 2 km from anything, and i guess they can be scanned (though probably not a lot of people bring a probe launcher onto fleet combat)
so really, i dont know how logistics ships, pvp or cloaking works, but i think that if someone who knew thought about it, he could come with a nice conclusion

We tried to take a logistic ship with some BC's for a couple of test run missions. Although it was nice to see new effects etc, after the test run we felt that just having another ship to deal damage would have been more efficient.
the logistic setup was nice for in a sense, babysitting or power lvling (without the lvl) for a lesser ship.
If you want to try something different go for it, if it takes longer because of it, go for it. Just have fun when you do it.

I think that would be ok if it was similar to how Missile Coverts work. Decloak quick lock and recloak 5 seconds after deactivating modules. --------------

Edited by: Lord WarATron on 21/03/2006 09:31:47 To answer all these issues, for pvp "cleric role" - Apoc with remote repairers. Apoc's obscene cap + powergrid means you can fit a tank and have remote repairers running. You are as good as dead though, if your gang is not alive.
For PvE either a medic apoc or better still, Logistic Cruisers would be best. --- Slot 10 Akemons Modified 'Noble'Zet 5000 implant +8% Armour FREE |
