1) This would require CCP to implement (or license) software for automatically detecting languages. furthermore, EVE Online is rife with constantly changing acronyms and slang - how would said software function when most of the words people type don't fit any language's dictionary? Anyways, it's easy enough to not look at what other people are typing.
2) You answered your own question. The English language is one of the most prolific languages in the world, so selecting it as a common standard maximizes convenience for most of CCP's customers. Yeah it would be cool if CCP catered to {insert demographic here} instead of us arrogant English speaking folks, but then CCP would lose 75% of their customers.
3) roleplaying reason: Because our pods are equipped with CONCORD mandated transponders which relay all relevant information about the pod pilots to the local solar system channels which are publicly available. Immortality and our demigod status come with a price, it seems.
As for the rest of your complaint, it is similar to #2 - it is simply convenient to CCP to cater towards their largest demographic. It sure would be inconvenient to you, for example, if CCP allowed me to name my characters in beautifully typeset Latex'd mathematics symbols!
4) The suggestion to nerf local as an intelligence gathering mechanism is not a new idea, and has been argued for and against by players for years now. CCP has stated that they want to remove local, but can't until they replace it with an intelligence gathering tool which is designed for the task and properly balanced. If CCP simply removed local channel as an intelligence gathering tool, the game would become HEAVILY biased in favor of the aggressor, as they will be able to open up their star map to look for potential targets, while victims have no means of detecting where the aggressors are, or where they are moving (at least, not until AFTER the aggressors have already killed several ships).
