Why would voice communication break immersion?
You don't think spaceship pilots would relay orders verbally? |

There's a couple "real" girls in our alliance - not me of course I'm a 40-odd year old crossdresser - and I don't think they get any special treatment. Yeah we'll get the odd noob who will be trying to hit on them the first day or so, but our comms are quite lively with zero awkward silences.
I think a lot of it has to do with both the maturity of the corp members, the respect for the other person as a gamer - one of our girls is a seriously pro pvp pilot - and also very much the attitude of the female in question. Yes our comms can get rather crude and primitive and perverted at times, and most of the time she's the one that started it :)

I only get on voice coms for fleet actions. Otherwise they seem to be just general b.s. and offensive jokes. I play ze video games to get away from reality, not to hear about Obama, or the ebil Republicans, or how many rugbies the local cricket team knocked into the goalie for 10 knickers or whatever. And I definitely, absolutely, do not need to know who had sex with my mother last night. I know violence isn't the answer. I got it wrong on purpose. |

Teamspeak was always common in all my corps even from 2004, how far back are we talking :P |

I agree.
and I don't mean to blanket all TS males as displaying the sort of behavior I described lol. that is certainly not the case. many channels I've visited in my time have been rather nice. some not so much. it totally depends on the crowd participating at the time

Teamspeak, immersion breaker?? Don't think so, as stated already if you were in a fleet fight and the FC was giving out orders in text chat, you'd be dead before you knew what hit you. That is why Teamspeak is usually required by many corps and fleets and believe me it can save your arse knowing by voice what to do even faster.
Sure, there may be some idle chatter about almost everything imaginable but there are some limits in place, such as discussions involving politics and religion, two really big no nos in my book. Anyway, TS is not in no way an immersion breaker and I hate to see what other excuse that comes out from this.

Everyone knows in the year 2853 there is no such thing as a radio. All spaceships communicate through smoke signals which is why they have chimneys. |

Beats the Hell out of EVE voice, mutter-mumble, Raid Call and so on. Sure, matter of preference -- but unless you're a scout in Fleet, then all you really have to do 99% of the time is LISTEN...

Is this a troll? Are you serious? You do know this is based tens of thousands of years in the future right?
I am so confused by this guys questions... I mean its like he wants a space-faring game with stone-age comms. Perhaps we should start using smoke signals to communicate instead of text. I mean a keyboard is too "advanced a tech" for space pilots. Why would anyone ever want to be able to "talk" to their members. Who ever heard of communicating in real time. LETS ALL USE CANS ON A STRING!!! THAT WILL WORK!
.... I lack the appropriate insult... (for a moderately elloquent guy thats not easy.

Just do what I do, if people start talking about football or their kids or whatever, open volume mixer bring down TS and put music on. You'll get a poke if you are needed. |

I am not a fan of voice coms, but I see absolutely no reason why it should be an immersion breaker. I mean if you were really flying these ships into combat, would you not have fleet coms? And would not some of those comms, most of them even, be complete and total garbage prior to combat?
To those that say it is an issue with people not wanting to have others hear their voice are short sighted at the best. I am an older CB buff and I can assure you that I have no problem with people hearing my voice. I just am awkward on voice comms as I am unable to gauge the conversation. For example, I always end up talking over people as I am unable to see their body language that would cue me into the fact that they are about to say something. This make things very awkward and I then tend to just sit back and listen, as many that do talk on comms have the opposite problem. They like to hear themselves speak This tactic does make it easy to follow commands though. |

This is actually pretty reasonable, but the answer is to find a corp that isn't filled with douchebags. "CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"
