If I am selling a character, and a guy already agreed to buy my character, and I agreed to his offer. And he already sent me his ISK. However, after that has happened, some other guy shows up and offers more ISK than the previous guy.
So my question is: Am I allowed to send the ISK back to the previous buyer, and make a new deal with a new buyer? Of course that would be frowned upon, but atm I only care about getting as much money as possible. I only care about: Is it legal or not?

Edited by: Bhaal on 21/03/2006 20:25:22 No, you need to sell it to the first guy if it was an auction/sale on the forums. ------------------------------------------------ Current Hobby other than EVE

But what if, according to the forum post, the auction doesn't end until after a couple of days, and I agreed his offer in-game?
Are you absolutely sure btw?

If you listed a buyout, and the first guy met the buyout, I would say he gets the character.
"legally" the only thing CCP will make sure is that no one loses their ISK/character.
I'm not sure what will happen if you give the ISK back and sell to the second guy and the first one petitions you...

to all practical reasons, the forums are a fully binding contract. TBH I'd petition this one to get an answer from a GM. RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!!!

And that is exactly what I'm asking about. What will happen if I'd do that and the guy'd petition me? Would I get warned/banned because it's illegal, or would the GMs not do anything because it is legal? Someone?

Best off asking the GMs directly bud. GM response can vary from case to case so it's hard to predict.

If the forum guy sent you ISK, but you then refund it fully, I doubt you'll get any problems with the GMs, but you should definately petition it to make sure.
However, you should really honor an agreement you've made, but it all depends on what kind of person you are I guess.

Dude, if you agreed a trade with somebody and this guy sent you the money, do the trade. Otherwise you're just acting like an idiot.

Providing you make a full refund there are no "legal issues" involved.
In fact due to it being a transaction in which no physical goods exchange hands there would never be any legal issue. Only the TOS issues relating to the game.
The only thing it makes you is an arse for doing it, it certainly will not land you in hot water with the GM's providing you make a full refund, and the day that someone gets sued over it will be the day I shall eat my dog. ----- Memorable Quotes <Jarltan Dimtras> OH MY GOD MY GF IS A DUDE |

to me you were breaching the 'rules' by breaking the forum auction and agreeing to the sale ingame, and you should follow the forum auction.

I think he was refering to in game legality seeing as he asked if he would get banned/ warned and not if he would end up doing 5-10 sharing with a guy called "Cuddles". RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!!!

It's not illegal, but don't expect anyone to trust you again. It's really bad form to pull that kind of thing. -- Lil Miner |

Edited by: Jonis Sinmaker on 21/03/2006 21:06:18 What you all fail to realize is it is his character until the transaction is complete. If he has a better offer then refund the isk from the original guy and go with the better offer. It is a sound financail move. Any major company would do it. It does not make him an arse it makes him a smart business person. The auction end date is not reached and if someone offers more before the end of the auction end date then it is perfectly fine. Next time don't except any isk until the auction end date though, as to avoid such sticky situations.

I think this really is an issue of integrity. From my perspective, as soon as you accepted payment, the transaction was complete and you are obligated to provide the product paid for.
As far as ingame legality, I doubt there would be much of an issue so long as you didn't grift the original purchaser.

Don't really mean it as a flame... but the only thing you have going for you in eve is your reputation and you've just said you'll back out of a deal if someone else offers you a better deal.
