We got the HAC as the cruiser equivalent of the assault frigate. What about the cruiser equivalent of an interceptor?
Pro: very high base speed, slightly lower signature?
Cons: offensive and defensive capability comparable with a low tier tech 1 cruiser
Toughts?

Someone was bound to think of this eventually. Why not interceptor titans while you're at it?
Why not just make every ship faster?

in light of the sarcasm it was serious. -
Greater mass requires greater power to achieve a given velocity, and the difference between a cruiser and a frigate while it may not seem all that big when looking at the big picture is actually quite drastic.
It's like saying There's armored Cars and armored tanks/apcs/etc ... and there's race cars.. why isn't there a racing tank?
Think of an interdictor as a cadillac LAV-300 with a nitrous kit.

I can see there being a fast cruiser. As mentioned it would require a significant reduction in HP, and likly have reduced cap and possibly less powergrid. I'd think one less hi-slot would be appropriate also. It'll basically be a light cruiser, decreased fire-power, higher speed, less defenses...a stop gap between destroyer and cruiser.
It'll be a nice gun-ship or a fast missile boat, maybe an ECM and/or electronics bonus too. It could also make for a nice intermediate class research and exploration vessel with the electronics bonus.

Uh, there sort-of are racing tanks. Blitzkreig, anyone?
Not to mention the Abrams can fire accruately while travelling at 80mph.
that being said, Interdictors rather fall itno the role. They are fast as hell.
