i understand that AB's and MWD's are not used together in one setup? so my question is: when do i need to go with AB and when with MWD?. for example i fly a kestrel and/or merlin. is it a good idea to swap out my AB and fit a MWD instead? or this just wasting my CAP energy?

Edited by: DOGNOSH on 22/03/2006 09:43:17 (currently i specialise in missions, nearly 6 weeks in EVE) MWD do not work in deadspace so in my cyclone BC i use AB's in deadspace and MWD in normal space and fitting both on at the same time is a waste of a slot

That depends alot on what you want to do and on personal taste. An AB is slower than an MWD, but it got several advantages, it doesn't increase you signature radius for example. Also keep in mind that you can't use MWD'S in Deadspace complexes.

Not really. Before they nerfed it and made it that you can't fit an AB and MWD at the same time, you used to get ships regularly flying around in excess of 6km/s sublight with only average skills. Imagine trying to track that or hitting it with missiles...

so for combat agent missions AB is a better choise and for just scouting and moving around MWD is a must. eventually i will try both setups and have a feel about it. thx for the answers.

The first question you need to ask your self is: Can my cap support an MWD?
Note that you will get a 25% reduction to cap total which also means 25% less cap recharged per sec. And when it's running it's using even more cap.
There is also fitting, an MWD uses a lot more powergrid which means you might have to nerf some other part of your fitting to use it.
Then it's how easy you are to hit, orbiting the target with an MWD running and orbiting the same target with AB running you will be harder to hit with the AB even if you are going slower.
But if you are in a small fast ship like an interceptor you can acctually outrun most drones with your mwd and you can reach your target faster to tackle it. If you have an mwd and the target does not you are going to be the one deciding at what range the fight is going to take place. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

currently i am making two setups: one fast ship with MWD for traveling and scouting. and one ship with AB for combat. gonna use auxillory power whatever it was (+10MW) anyway to get a setup i want.

An overdrive injector and an AB on a Vigil is good cheap fun!
