It might, and most if not all games come with some kind of seizure warning on the packaging somewhere. Most epileptics are aware of this issue anyway.

They tried to cram it on the startup screen, but it wouldn't fit.
Sorry.

The worst is flying an Ishkur. That little beauty is so small that laser flashed against it are full screen flashes rather than a little dot on your hull. During combat I have to zoom out just to be able to see anything! -- Lil Miner |

Generally, if software can trigger a seizure, they have to have a warning. EU laws or something or other.

Software doesn't cause either of those. What software can do is trigger seizures.

I have it on my wall in my office. When people start rambling I just close my eyes, grin, and point at it.

I have a good friend who plays MMO's with that condition in a degree. Mostly extreme mental fatigue occurs for her after having to deal with the flashes. Luckily for her she can turn off most the effects in EVE while in games like WoW she was forced to face the camera away from the figths and spell effects.
If you know someone sensitive like this you start realizing how many other things are difficult like, movies these days with flashy affects, or even funny flash animation web comics (Touch of irony there). Not much can be done about it. If you're a game fanatic and you don't suffer epilepsy, count your blessings every night.

Edited by: DukDodgerz on 23/03/2006 18:26:34 It shouldn't be up to the software to NOT trigger this just to apease a rare faction of players.

One of the post tells of a WoW player actual accepting their limitation and finding their own work-around (good to hear/read). More people should take this example to heart, or not do the things that cause them issues.

Really low intensity and low frequency. I don't see how it could. Things like strobe lights, CAN trigger seizures. Along with that one japanese cartoon.

yeah wasent looking to change something was curious to how many might have trouble with the graphics layout .. or how many actually suffer from something that makes Eve harder for them then for others .. I mean as a developer this might be the last thing on your mind aswell dealing with buggs and gameplay .. I mean if something like a caution or help for what graphics should be changed for someone with any kind of disorder should do before playing that could help someone atleast ..

Some note for those worried. I hope the english medical terms are correct, but the content is.
Photosensitivity has little to do with what most of you call epilepsy (which is a symptom, like headache, and not a disease in itself), so it's nothing special that people that never had such problems in the past will have seizures under special light conditions, while people with epileptic symptoms will have no problems with strobos and flashes at all - it just mean your brain is more sensitive than the average population to light flashes. Some people skin is more sensitive to sunlight, some people metabolism is more sensitive to altitude, some people brain is more sensitive to certain stimulii.
If anything, discovering that sensitivity in the safe conditions of playing a game is way better than discovering it when driving by night, and if you really have a doubt, there is a very easy exam done in sleep condition that should reveal if your brain is too sensitive to light flashes.
